Mikey: Those gaps look to be pretty damn nasty ones... I'm sure you can get them under control though! You picked one hell of a color scheme BTW!

Hey Reasoned. It's great to see you in here and welcome aboard! If you need radios for that Revell Stuka lemme know. I  have one more extra set from my Hasegawa extras. As  I remember the Revell kits do not have those.

Hey all!... I was able to get some more done today... I decided to try my hand at making exhaust dumps, The ones supplied with the kit (like most) look like crap, so I figured I couldnt loose anything by trying...

I took some brass tubing, experaminted a bit with the length and the bend, pinched the outlet to flatten it somewhat, and CAed them in at even spacing. After that All I have to do is to clean up the holes abit and I think they will look loads better then the supplied ones, Also found a leftover PE screen piece that fit perfectly in the oil coller vent hole. All in all so far I'm happy with the way its going. More to follow!

Take care all!!!

Thanks Joe, Radio?  Since when did a Stuka pilot need a radio?Smile  I'm going to probably build this bad boy OTB, not having done any research yet, it should be fun.

Doug those exhausts look fantastic!  Great scratch work, looking forward to seeing more.

Doug, what did you use to shape those exhaust? They look very convincing.

Reasoned- Welcome aboard. This should be a cake walk compared to your B-36 huh?

Doug I'm with Nathan, what did you use on those exhausts?? Those look great

Reasoned: I'm looking forward to building with you in here. Let me know if you change your mind about those radios. Those cockpits in those kits are really bare.

Well goodness, Thanks guys... Well, what seemed to be a good match for the scale (1/48) seemed to be the K&S 15037 .006 round brass tubing. The best place to find this (if not available at LHS) is  www.hobbylinc.com . They have nearly everything I've ever needed , fast shipping, and reasonable prices. I try to keep a varried selection on hand and they even had a 1mm size I needed one time(very small tubing!) Any way, I played around abit till I got the right length, and bent over a 1/8 dia drill bit, not quite 90 deg, which tends to flatten the body while leaving the outlet round. It can be cut with a razor saw blade, but I used a Dremmel cut off disc. taking a pair of micro needle nose pliers, squeeze the outlet abit to make oval shaped, use a micro file to clean out the burrs and check out fit. If satisfied, i squeeze the end to be glued a bit more to flair it out some more which makes it a nice snug fit in the exhaust slot in the cowling, apply a drop of CA and repeat until all are installed. Simple, right? LOL... But to me it come out like I wanted and I like the look.

Thanks again, and I hope that helped!

Those exhausts look pretty good Doug, and thanks about the tip for hobbylinc.com.  I didn't know about it and it's always nice to have other places to shop, especially when the closest LHS is over an hour away.

Thanks Clemens... I was setting looking at the crappy ones supplied with the kit, and didnt want to have to order and wait, so I gave it a whirl and I think it came out OK...

Bob... Yeah that could be a problem, But these folks will without a doubt take care of your hobby needs, I think they're a supplier for many hobby shops. I took my LHS sticker off something I had bought and there was their name. They are good folks, atleast every time I've dealt with them...

Thanks for the good words all. I'm very impressed by all the builds thus far and appreciated all the helpful info as well. Just a quick note; I'll be staying at my girlfriend's place for Easter so no building or updates from me, but "work" will resume next week. For all those celebrating, enjoy!

Doug, those exhausts are stunning. I have been looking at some Quickboost exhausts for the D, but there late ones are wrong. I might try and do this in 72nd scale. What size rod did you use.

Edit: never mind, just seen the later post.

Hey Doug looking good man! Thats a Revellogawa kit you have there aint it? I had all sorts of fit issues up front where the windscreen panel and the lower piece attached to the fuselage. Glad to see yours fit good! Moving right along with this one buddy!!!

LOL... Revellagawa...LOL... Not really sure Joe, but your more then likely right. I dont know though, could be a Hasavell kit, LOL...Really, I have built some of the "ProModeler" kits and found "Dragon" on the sprue shot bag, but nothing on this one so I'll bet your right. Thanks all, Bish, TJ, Clemens... I'm kinda excited about the finish I've chosen for the winter scheme I'm doing. If it comes out anywhere close to what I've envisioned I'll be happy! The markings will be highly suspect (translate to read fictional) But that will be the only Thing that wont be within the pictures and studies I've done. She will be one of the 39 sent to Denmark & Norway in the winter of 39/40 to fight the "Phoney War". I found a really cool picture of a whitewashed R2 that was nearing spring and the wash was really showing is wear over the long hard winter. Thanks again,,,

Ok folks it's update time! I've been working my butt off on this thing and it's mostly been the fit issues I've been having out of the piece that the windscreen and IP adhere to. The fit was terrible! Lots of sanding to remedy those fit issues. I'm still sort of confused about the oil reservoir opening area. I'm thinking of filling the front of the opening where the wall seems to stop short with filler and re-working that whole area. I installed the "top cap " cover at the rear of the cockpit at the rear gunners station. My hopes were to install the ammo drum racks but the jicky thingy that Aires supplied didn't allow for the ammo drum dumpster on the L/H side of the cockpit and they wouldn't fit right. Honestly I'd had enough of refitting and modifying to cover for the lack of foresight on Aires  part and just installed the top cap. The way I see it , I have enough detail showing here as it is and the back part there won't be missed.

As for the wings I'm still having a blast with those, in a good way I mean. I installed the wing machine gun internals after painting and weathering and installed a foam pad on top for added insurance. How many times have we installed something like this, jarred the plane, and the whole part just fall inside the wing, fuselage, tail fin......you get the picture. Just for my piece of mind anyways. The other rectangular resin piece is to mount a landing light in this otherwise blank space. The landing light is on the L/H side of the clothespin and the wing lens that was just dipped in future is off to the right. I'll be putting all of this stuff together here when the silver backing dries overnight. I'm going to go ahead and apply some future over the glass on the front of the light as well.

and a view of the wing gun detail all painted and weathered up here:

Thanks Doug. I had two update kits for this one. An Aires set and the Verlinden set. Out of the two the Verlinden was cheaper. It has less detail and requires a whole lot more work to get the results out of, however, for the money I spent on the Aires kit I expected an easier time to get the results I wanted. Oh well, that's what I get for setting expectations!! lol

Incidentally the light was one of those circular "break offs" on a windshield I had in a model car kit. lol

I just trimmed the thickness down a little and mounted the spare resin piece into place to where the light would sit perfect in the wing lens.

Thanks Bish and it aint the Hasegawa end I don't think. I strongly believe it's because of all the AM add ons. We'll get around it though.

O yes, they don't make things easy to they. I do like the results Aires give, but they make you work for it. The only time I have had a pit fit in without a struggle is when the resin wasn't designed for that specific kit.
