Hi all.  I haven't been on much that last couple of weeks. My dog has been sick. His kidneys have now completely shut down. Today I have to take him to be put down. This is the hardest thing I've had to do in a long time.

Johnny I'm so sorry to read of your loss, they truly can be man's best friend.

Just a quick update before I'm heading south for a little R&R.  Because of the sparse detail in the office, I decided to fab my own version of a Stuka radio behind the pilot.  As you can see, the old Revellogram is pretty basic on the fuselage side detail, as demonstrated by the port side.  Oh well, she's coming along.

 Ok fellas! We're down to throwing the snakes and other stuff on here! I set a goal to be friggin DONE with this camo scheme to include white fuselage bands and wing tips by the end of this week.  After reading the last few posts concerning the use of 76 vs. 65 I wanted to puke! RLM 65 is the correct color for my build and  I simply assumed that 76 was it save for early 109's.  Well it's too late now as I already applied the gloss coat by the time I read the posts concerning color..Oh well.......onward we go.

Here she is with gloss stuff on. Will be resuming the build when I return from out of town next Monday.

Well finally got home last night and looked through my paint and lucky me I do have a bottle of RLM 65.  So late last night the RLM 76 got painted over by the right stuff.  Not much else to report but at least it's some progress.

I don't however have any RLM 71.  So now another trip to my LHS

Joe, that's looking really nice. I don't think I have seen this scheme before, the ones I have seen have much more sand over the green splinter. I really like the one you have done here.

Wow do I have a lot of catching up to do. Great stuff going on here. Just quickly scanned the last few pages. I may never catch up, haven't even procured a Stuka yet.

Yet I am with you guys in spirit, and will make an attempt to get caught up. I'm bound to learn some stuff.

OK Bish... I cant stand it any more... I am going to start a second STUKA build this weekend. I am breaking into the DEEP stash, and blowing the dust off one of my Monogram 1/48 "D" kits... This is circa 1968, and I am going to build OOB with whatever I have handy to dress up abit. The cockpit and gunners compartment is VERY sparse and will need alot of scratch build to dress up. This will not be the picky, picky, kit with tons of detail, but I will do the best I can, with what I have onhand. It will be a "trop" build, and someone (likely un beknownst to them") challanged me to a paint scheme. It was stated that no way would they try a paint job like the one I have in mind... I'm going to try! Thanks...pics to follow soon...

Sounds interesting, looking forward to seeing some scratchbuilding and curious as to the scheme you have in mind. The only unusual Stuka schemes I can think of are Tropical and Night attack.

Been building kind of slow latly so I told myself that I wouldn't start another unless I complete one.  With 3 builds in the homeward stretch I can satisfy the itch of starting a new kit.  Going to be a Ju-88B-2 from S1+GK, 2/St.G 3 based at Derna airfield Libya autumn of 1941.  At least that's what the decal guide says .  

Kit is a 1/72 Fujimi Ju-87 B/R.

Nice to see this one underway 68. I do like those Fujimi kits, I think I have all of there 87's in the stash. I did build one many years ago. Be interested to see what you do with this one. I can't remember, does the kit come with the tropical filter, I know the Revell one does, not sure about the Fujimi.

I know StG 3 were based at Derna in March 42, bt they were going back and forth so much, I think its hard to keep track of what unit was where. they were certainly in Libya in 41.

I wanted to build this first but that's okay. I'll just build it next.

Haven't checked on the filter yet as I just opened the box for the photo.

I didn't know MPM had done a Stuka, I guess that must be the origin's of the SH kits I have. When you get to that one, could you do me a favour and get a close up pic of the rudder. The SH kit is slightly incorrect and looking at the box art at least, the MPM kit is right, I just wonder if the kit is correct.

Sure and the Fujimi kit does not include a trop filter so I'll have to work on that.

Lots of great work going on!  I have the painting done for my night Stuka.  I didn't foresee how difficult some of the masking would be, especially with some of the smaller bits in place.  Something for me to keep in mind for the next time.  Anyways, I'm pretty pleased with the paint job, just a little bit to touch up here and there.

Does anyone know if the exhaust shrouds on the night planes were hollowed out on the ends?  I can't seem to find any good pictures, and the kit parts are solid on the ends.

The exhaust shrouds seem to have been open on both ends, at least by looking at photos on page 52 of Squadron's "JU-87 Stuka In Action".  Someone else may confirm this.

Damn, the MPM kit has it right. The SH kit has the same rudder on both its kits, but the A-1 is less rounded off that the later versions, that one looks spot on. Thanks 68.

Bob, looking good there. Gary is spot on, they were open both ends, I assume to allow air flow to stop it getting to hot and possibly glowing in the dark.

Thanks for the info.  It makes sense to me that they would have been opened up, but I wanted to make sure before I started surgery on the pieces.

Always handy to check if your not sure bob.

Last update for the weekend, I have the national insignias painted on.  I'll be saving time with decals since mostly likely all the stencils would have been painted over as well.  I'll just put one of the markings on the fuselage behind the insignia and hope that will work since the decals in the kit are probably older than I am.  I also painted the canopy and started working on the exhaust shrouds.

Nice Bob... As to decals... I've found that if they are just old and yellowed, placing them in a sunny window for a few days will bleach them back to usable, but alot of times they grow brittle and are extremely fragile to handle... I like your painted on markings. I try to paint everything I can and use dry transfers as often as possible. Yours is looking good!

Thanks Doug!  I set them in a window for a few days, and it did help with the weathering.  But they still look dirty and I just have a feeling they'll shatter when I try to put them on.  But just in case, I scanned them into my computer so I can print new ones if I need to.
