The nice thing about this scale and kit is that I can easily continue to detail the cockpit after the fuselage is put together. Would like to see Trumpeter come out with a JU-87 Tank buster to add to their 24th scale line.

A few progress pics here, it's coming along.

Got the cockpit glued to the r/h fuselage, sure hate to close her up

With the inboard wing stubs glued on.

With the landing gear installed, the tail is not glued yet till after painting.

Test fit of the 500KG bomb and release. Thought I had a real problem with the release arm as it did not fit the bomb until I realized there were two arms and I installed the wrong one, easy fix.

How it sizes up with the Monogram JU-87.

Need to get cracking on the engine now and I think that will be fun to tackle.

I'm in the same boat as you Commander John. Hit the bench maybe twice all summer. Work is slowing down finally and the Stuka is calling my name. I did order some resin radios from Quickboost. They are made for the Tamiya Storch kit but they are the same type used in the Ju 87D. I should be able to just cut them out and use them somehow. I also have a Phantom and Starfighter calling me too though, so competition between the 3 will be tough...

Well my bench has been calling my name. Went in for the first time in months. Cleaned the cobwebs. Might try working on the 87 soon. Good to be back at it. John

Hey AJ,

I hear ya.  I had never seen decals crumble so quickly before.  Very odd.  Don't think I'll be getting any from them.  Maybe it was just a bad batch or something.

Well eagle, I had the same problem with the Printscale decals as you had. They just fell to pieces the moment they touched water. I'm not happy about it at all. I was really looking forward to having a Bulgarian Stuka, to stand out from the norm. So those decals were trashed, and my kit is a 1983 boxing, so the already suspect Monogram decals are 31 years old, and worked marginal at best. So I'm having to piece together decals of the Monogram sheet, a Hobbycraft 109 sheet, and an Eagle Strike 190 sheet. Needless to say, the end result not be a depiction of an actual Stuka.

Despite the airbrush/paint problems, I have had fun building this kit. So much that I migbt try another. Dies abyone have anything to say about the Airfix Ju 87-B kit?

AJ, like Bish said, I have the 1/48 Airfix 87-B kit (A05100).  Got it as a gift from a very good friend...and you know who you are!  Wink  Thank you again!

She looks to be a great kit!  I did the Mono 87 not too long ago and it was a great kit, and this one looks to be even better!  Much more detail!  Can't wait to start her!  If you are thinking about getting the kit, do it!  I'd be happy to send you some pics of the kit and all if that would help in any decision making you might have.  Just let me know.

aj, if its the 48th kit, I believe that's a good one. I know Eagle is due to start his soon, so it might be worth keeping an eye on that.

AJ...Not sure what scale you're looking into but if you're wondering about the Airfix 1/24th kit, that's the one I'm working on here and I give it 2 thumbs up. It does have a few minor seam problems here and there but it does go together better than their other earlier 24th scale kits.

Gary...good luck on finding something new, hope it's soon and everything works out for you. I'm being jerked around by the AZ DOC, was suppose to start the academy Monday morning (after being out 4 years) only to be told Friday afternoon I'm on hold till ???????? I'm doing a slow steam over that one.

I normally don't prime my aircraft builds, just the 1/6th figures but I think I will with this bird. And I will give that Tamiya surface primer a shot.

Still puttering around on the bird, have just glued the lower wheel assemblies to the wing and letting it set. Sanded some of the seams.   I was planning on using the Master Model Brass machine gun set for the wing guns but since I wanted to glued the access panels in the closed position, there was just a tiny portion of the gun barrel extending from the wing gun ports so I figured it would be a waste of a good set and I used the kit parts instead.

Will try to post some pics later.

After the rlm 65, my airbrush went on the fritz. So the top colors didn't go on very well.

Sorry for my absence guys. Been away for a few days and thought I would be able to get online, but unfortunately I wasn't.

Shooter, on my previous two builds, I had attached the strap on both sides. But what you say makes perfect sense, I had just not considered it.I imagine it would have been easy enough for the gunner to clip and unclip the strap.

Gary, I have not had much work since March. Luckily I have had some saving's to fall back on. I actually don't mind not working, unfortunately I am now at the point where I have to pull my finger out. The past few months have given me loads of modelling time which has been a real bonus. The Stuka is looking good, be nice to see some colour on it.

Mikey, look forward to seeing those final pics.

Sorry to hear about the lay-off news Gary; I know that story all too well. Kind of takes the wind out of your sails to say the least.

The model looks superb. I've tried bare metal foil for the wing walk area you're talking about on a 1/48 Stuka I did a while back. It worked out pretty well but was tedious with no margin for error in the cuts. Perhaps you could use something like Humbrol metal cote and just tape it off.

As for mine, I'm done and have pics just need to post. I'm in the process of moving so they've been sitting in photo bucket. I'm a little intimidated by all the great work here but will hold my breath and post them this week end.

I suppose it's time for another update on my  Hobby-Gram Stuka.  I admit that I haven't worked on this model very much recently, as I was laid off from work last month and that has put a damper on my enthusiasm for much of anything.  Everyone in this thread has been doing some really nice work, and it helps encourage me a bit to get back to finishing, so I am grateful to all of you for that.

First, here something that I decided was a failure, and removed after completion.  The wing walkways on the Stuka G2 were 3 strips instead of a single wide one, and I tried to replicate these with some sticky label paper.  But I put the strips on too far apart and they just appeared too thick, so I removed them.  Sometimes you just have to try something to find out it doesn't work.

You might be able to tell that I cut a small piece of plastic and glued a punched out piece of foil for the landing light in the wing.  That I kept.

Then it was gluing pieces together and filling and puttying.  Nothing spectacular or interesting there.  I then put the canopy pieces together, masked it with tape and glued it in place with tacky glue.  Openings to the radiators were stuffed with wet tissue and she was ready to be primed.

I used Tamiya Fine Surface Primer for the first time on this model.  It went down smoothly and dryed quickly.  I was pleased with the result, tho it does require quite a bit of spraying to cover as it really is "fine".

That's where she stands right now, tho I may try to get the bottom color of Tamiya AS-5, Light Blue Luftwaffe on later.  Depends on the humidity.

Till next time, and thanks for looking.

A technical question for the Stuka Expertens.....In the gunner area, wouldn't the leather restraining strap which runs across the fuselage wall, hang down disconnected on one side until the gunner is seated?

I test fitted the strap and looking at it, it would seem to be an hindrance in climbing in and out of the cockpit. So I figure it must be detached on side or the other.

I got the fuselage glued together and installed the inboard angled wing spars, have some seam filling to do on the bottom of both but the top looks almost seamless. Might have some seam issues with the wings when I get to that. I been putting off on finishing the pilot seat but it can wait, still have that engine to paint and install. All in all it is going together smoother than the 190 did. This girl is BIG! I can only imagine what the Airfix Mosquito must be like.
