Gary I just read a quote from a review on modelling madness. The review was for the HC MS406 but in the reading the reviewer  said that the Ju87 was one of the few kits he's ever thrown away. John

Hasegawa makes a G-1 and G-2 in a couple different boxings.

They now have another G-2 coming out which is labelled Rudel. But its not the same aircraft as there other G-2 boxing, this new one is the one he surrended in with the white stripes on the rudder.

Thanks, guys!  I saw the scalemate review (and that boxing is the exact one I have), though Echo's build is in a language I don't even recognize!  Looks like a nice enough model on the outside, however.

Tempestjohnny> Yes, I read that too.  Doesn't fill me with confidence about the model. Hmm

I must take it that since there is so little information on the model that no one considers it worthwhile to build!  Looking at it, I note the cockpit is almost non-existent, it has raised panel lines (something I don't really mind) and it appears no rivets.  Size-wise, it's definitely not 1:48.  It does, on a quick exam, appear that it is a D-3 with D-5 wings attached (thus the G1 designation).

Sounds like my kind of model!  Surprise

Gary

PS> Bish!  Go ahead and put me down for this model.  I'm probably going to regret this, but it looks so simple that it should just be cut and paste!  LOL!  (And I'll probably finish it before I finish up the builds for The Longest Day GB and the 1944 GB.)

Gary, I will add it to the roster, will be interesting to see what its like in the flesh.

John, I dug out the kits this morning. The Fujimi cockpit is slightly longer than the Academy. The Fujimi pit floor is also slightly wider, and that should mean less sanding to get the resin pit to fit. In the pic below, the Academy fuselage is the bottom one. It looks longer, but there are separate parts to go on top of the fuselage fore and aft of the pit which are moulded onto the Fujimi one.

I'll stick my neck on the line and say I reckon it would work.

Hi Bish,

I volunteer for any of your chains!

Would be happy for advice/suggestion on a 1/32.

I think I did Airfix 1/24 back in the 70's but I don't want to go there again :)

Very Best Regards

Johan

BTW - Nice going on that 88! I am sitting here smiling - you are on the mark m8 :)

Johan, have you built the 32nd kit. I am sure the guys building that would welcome any tips.

So what did you think of the Airfix kit. I have been thinking of getting that as a one off in that scale, ok maybe 2 as Trump are bringing out a 24th scale D.

And thanks, I should have a fresh update on that tomorrow.

Johan: Welcome aboard!

If you want to build a 1/32 Stuka, Hasegawa is the way to go. Surface detail looks excellent and the engineering is great as well. The wings for example are supported by the beefiest wing spar I've ever seen... They have a D and a G model in their 1/32 line. Interior detail is quite good and only really needs a few additional bits to busy it up a bit (maybe some Eduard PE), but I decided to add Aires' cockpit detail set because it looks so awesome. If you want to build an early Stuka, you have to look for Trumpeter's kits. They look pretty good, but have some shape issues at the nose and landing gear.

Regarding the Trumpeter 1/32 'B' model errors on the nose and gear, There is AM correction available, for those dead set on building one and wanting accuracy....

SS. Looking forward to seeing your Aires cockpit. Here's a nice write up on that set...

I have been looking at that set for some time pilot. I can't see anyone else, such as Quickboost or CMK doing this now, so I think that set will be the way to go. I know its lacking the rivet detail, but I am sure this is an easy enough fix.

I'm sure it will. They are both nice kits, but the Academy does have nicer detailing. I sent the cannon and some cockpit parts for mine to Thunderbolt to do up his Fujimi kit as I had replaced mine with Aires. But the cannon on the Academy kit look just as nice as the resin, just that the resin ones include the body of the gun inside the pods. If you do decide to do the Fujimi, I can send you the Academy cannon from my G-2 if you want them as I have resin ones for that as well.

One more month, guys!

I'm making progress on a Ki-61 over on Gamera's Japanese GB, to finish in time to start this one. I'm pretty set to go, with the exception of an Eduard Big Ed. I thought I'd try that on this one.

I do rather like those Eduard BIGED sets, I have the one for the 32nd 87G. Are you adding anything else.

So far, I've added quickboost exhaust and props. The props will really make a difference and are a definite step up.

Aires tires and Master Model barrels. I found 3 companies that have made 1/32 metal barrels. Voyager, Schatton-Modellbau, and Master Model. The Schatton-Modellbau are out of production, however.

I also found some Montex Masks for the 1/32 Ju-87B and will see how the markings compare to the kit decals. I've had good luck with Hasegawa decals, however.

RB also make the 32nd barrels. I originally tried to get the Schatton ones a couple of years ago but could get them, I didn't know they were OOP, so I got the RB ones, they look rather nice and I have used there tank barrels a few times which I like. I did get the BIGED set but now I have decided to get the Aires cockpit, but I am sure the pit PE will come in useful at some point, and those BIGED sets are good value I think.

I have had good luck with Hase decals, when I get round to the G-2, I think the only think I will not use is the yellow wing marking, I am going to try painting that one.

I recieved my Eduard Big Ed stuff and the HGW belts yesterday. I'll use the PE cockpit set to add a few bits to the Aires tub (really only ammo belts, rudder pedals and canopy frame). I ordered that QB prop and Master barrels as well, but they didn't arrive yet. Ill go to a model show next weekend and Aires is going to be there too, so I'll have a look for those wheels...

I won't use the kit decals btw. I'll go with a set of vinyl masks cut by Miracle Masks. The sheme I decided on only contains the swastikas, fuselage and wing crosses and a yellow band at the nose. All of those things are huge decals and I really don't want to mess around with something like that when a mask set for a few bucks makes things much easier...

Thanks Bish. I hope I won't let you down! Looks like we all have some good ideas here. I had never heard of RB. That's a nice set of barrels they make.

I'll be interested to see how the Aires cockpits come out. That's a great idea, to combine the aires and eduard together. Also, Voyager makes a cockpit detail kit.

SS, how did you go about getting Miracle Masks? I suppose you have to special order them? Also, those HGW belts seem first rate! The aires wheel set is nice. Hopefully you can pick one up. I like that they give the option of a lightly loaded tail wheel, or heavier.

RB armour barrels are also sold under the label of Armourscale.

I have mixed Aires resin and Edurad PE in the pits before, usually the pre coloured PE bits. But I have gone off that a bit. I agree about the Aires wheel set, a nice option there. I still have to get the HGW belts, I have never used them before, but I have heard plenty of people rave about them.

I have never heard of miracle mask's.
