And here is the first pic of the tractor. Looks like it will be an easy build. I did a  1/48 scale Jeep to go with my PBY Catalina, I'm willing to bet the staff car will be somewhat hard to like the jeep.

I just took a look in my B-24 box and didn't see any on the clear parts sprue or any mention for them in the instructions.  Might have to scratchbuild something out of packaging plastic.  Looking good so far!

did some more research and i will be doing the 1/35 trumpeter URAL-4320 soviet 6x6 as a civilian vehicle. black chassis, orange color and will make a canvas tarp for the cargo bed.

like the german UNIMOG 4x4s, many of these military vehicles were transferred to other government agencies.

I was looking at pics on google for my airfield tractor. It was manufactored by the Cleveland Tractor Company. I found that to be somewhat interesting.

There is also a web site called www.Cletrac.org. Looks interesting.

However, the pictures I found show a canvas cover over the seats. I'd like to replicate the canvas roofing, but I havn't a clue how to do this. I can do the bars for it, but whats the best way to make the canvas?

I'm totally open for suggestions here.

I'll be looking forward to see yours Wayne. Maybe I can copy yours, If you don't mind that is.

Thanks

Finally, little bit of a bench time. As they say at the beginning of a car race "gentlemen, start your engines", well, I started with the engine...

It is not glued yet, hence the gap.

Looks good Ken!  I got some time to start my HMMWV.  Even though I wasn't going to display it with the hood open, I'm still a little disappointed it doesn't come with a full engine.  It's also been a long time since I've been underneath one of these, and I was having trouble remembering the coloring.  After looking around online though, it seems that the frame and everything else was black while the underside of the body was green.  Does that sound right to anyone that might know?

i'm trying a whole new painting techniques with the frame for my URAL-4320. working on the engine and will take the engine compartment to next meeting and have a car guy give me pointers on detailing it a bit; injector lines, fuel lines, battery and cables and assorted smoke and mirrors wiring. this will be pure commercial so the engine compartment and cab interior will be same as body color. D/L more pics.

so you may be a modeler if your frau goes "look at this" and shows you the end of a police chase with a stolen car on its side, the bottom looking at you. she said 4 people escaped and all i was thinking was; "cool heat coloring on the muffler and exhaust. i wonder if eye shadow would work on my truck?"

I might be a little guilty of similar lines of thought Wayne.  By the way congrats on your places at your show!

I got most of the major assemblies together and I only lost one of the hood reflector pieces.  Fortunately I was only going to use one of them because the truck I'm building had one of them broken off, and I can't ever remember the motor pool coming up with a replacement for it.  I can remember mentioning that problem on almost every singe PMCS I did on that truck.  Sorry for the fuzziness of the pic, I'm having problems with the lighting this time of day with my cell phone.

This little guy is slowly coming together. Clearly, the wheels are not glued on, I put them on just for the effect.

Cheers...Toast

I have the camo on and the chassis painted, as well as most of the other parts, now I'm ready to start weathering.  I usually build aircraft and sci-fi stuff so any advice for weathering a ground vehicle would be greatly appreciated.  I'm not going for a super used look, but something that spends most of its time in the motor pool with the few random trips on and off post.  I was thinking of doing a light-colored wash and some dry brushing, maybe some paint chipping here and there.  Any other suggestions?

Try 1/48 scale jeep next to a PBY Catalina in the 1/48 scale too Geeked

I finally found my clear sheets, So I can make the windshield for my airfield tractor. I'll try to do it tonight.

Revell is pretty good about that.  I received a sheet of decals in the mail before I got the email telling me the order was shipped.  On page 2 Pyrman made a badge, except there were question marks for the end dates on it because he wasn't sure when the build was going to be over.

Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way of the hobby. If all goes well this weekend, I'll have the badge competed and posted....sorry for the delay.

I took your advice Wayne and misted on some of MM Dark Green and that helped tone down the camo pattern.  I also dry brushed some Tamiya Buff and did a wash to help bring out details and shadows.  I was also able to get decals on.  This was my first attempt at printing my own decals for the names on the windshield and the truck's ID numbers.
