Rob Sherman plasticj...how do you clean out the airbrush after use, and, I hear the fumes can be quite intense?
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
PJ that looks great! I was going to do my F100 in camo because I absolutely STINK at silver. But now I will have to rethink this. So you paint gloss black as a primer and then add Alclad? I've never herd of it before. is that a specialty paint?
Steve
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Thanks Steve. Yes it's a specialty lacquer paint. The gloss black is used for the high shine Alclads like chrome and polished aluminum. You can use white or grey primers for the non high shine Alclads.
The Hun will look super in NM, specially the heat discoloration around the engine.
I will defiantly get some and give it a try. I have a B47 I've been neglecting because of its finish. I'll have to finally build it next year for the Boeing build.
The biggest thing with alclad is to first know that it is NOT as hard as people think it is!
Second is to have an absolutely perfect smooth finish for the paint.
Spray it up in light coats (round 12-15 psi) untill you get the look you want.
Here is a link to the NMF GB I did, my Hun is a few posts down.

I did not use different tones of alclad, just gloss black base. Then did about 3-4 light coats to get a dark allu look. Masked off a few panels and did 3 more coats to lighten the rest.
A claercoat of alclad semi matt used to seal it all.
I usually spray lacure thinners to clean the brush, then a cup of turpentine to lubricate the neede before I put it away.

I am calling this 106 done! I was going to do a dragchute, but realized if I did that I would have nowhere to put this build since it would increase the length of the model by alot. When I get more room I will re-visit the idea. But here she is.
Please put me on the list.

It doesn't matter that you ARE the best, but that you DID your best!
B1....holy wicked awesome job on that 106!! Well done....those markings are just stellar and i love the sheen. She looks like she just rolled out of Convair's plant!! Love it. Now, which photo do you want on the Wall of Fame?? My vote's for the last pic, but, that's just me
B1, nice job on the 106! Looks fantastic!

Thanks all, this kit went wayyyyyyy smoother than that 104 did.
Rob the last pic will be great, thanks.
B1, very nice 106!
I love it.
Stunning 106 you made there mate!
@ mailwalker, welcome :-)
Thanks Theuns
Ok gents, B1's officially ON FIRE!! Added his awesome build to Wall. Great to see you sporting the badge!!
Welcome mailwalker, looking forward to some WIP.
A tiny bit of progress. I painted the wing fences red.
Rob, that 105 looks great. B-1, nice work on the Monogram classics. Liking the work on the Duece, Mach! Slowly getting everything together. I must have gotten a first or second run of this kit as it has wing fences on the leading edges rather than the slots. The kit fits surprisingly well for it's generation. As boxed, it comes with markings for the Bicentennial " Freedom Bird" and I'm tempted to see if they're any good after thirty plus years. Pics will probably be up tomorrow or the next day.
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
Thanks lewbud...it was a fun project. Good looking wing fences Mach, they stand out nice. Mine will be more red on the wingtips, but, red wing fences too. I managed to get the missile bay, landing gear and airbrakes done. Also got the black nose painted. Going to move on to the red paint on the wings, wing fences and vert stab. Oh, FINALLY got to use yellow zinc chromate!!! Love this colour in the landing gear bays, very different.
Here's the red detail:
Nice color scheme, the red really pops. Got the seams where the fuselage and wings meet filled, should be sanded later this evening. Closed off the missile bay doors using the kit parts, going to take a LOT of putty to fill and make it smooth. Going to loose a lot of panel detail during sanding. Now I know why the guy on Britmodeler did a full re-scribe. Now I have to decide which markings I'm going to go with: the speed record(very colorful), the Bicentennial (if they're any good), or a chase plane for the B-1 program.
That dart is looking gooooood!
Tks B1....lewbud, hopefully you choose the Bicentennial markings. They are striking and so unusual. My next 106 will hopefully be that one for sure.
Have to agree, the red does look so cool!
Rob, your dagger is looking great. I really like your paint so far.
......just something sexy and deadly about those delta wings............lookin' good guys!
2022 New Year's Resolution: Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!! Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge??? Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

Rob, I'm partial to the Bicentennial markings, I just don't know if they are any good. The tanks had markings on them as well, maybe I'll try them first. I never realized how huge this bird is. It will be the biggest plane on the lot when she's done. Just waiting for some putty touch up on the missile bay to dry,and then she'll be ready for primer.
Well lew, hope they work out.
Some painting WIP pics.
Realized I forgot to paint the inner fences red:
This pic tried to show the light oil wash weathering effect. Dunno if it can be seen well enough:
Inner fence rail:
this was a masking challenge - the yellow frame of the canopy:
Little forest of AIM-4C Falcons:
Here's the bitter/sweet part of these planes...all that work on the missiles, and, they are hidden inside!!!
Completion pics coming up next!!
This MENG F-102A Case XX is done. I really enjoyed MENG. A few issues: The FRONT landing wheel support was poorly molded so I had to glue the tire directly to the shaft of the support. It worked out, but, the wheel is crooked. If this was a plane to be judged, which it is not, I would have contacted them for a replacement part. The open canopy poses ok, but, it's not 'open' enough. After the fact, I actually wished I had fixed it in place. BIG plus was the AM pitot tube: Air Master Series - this will become a staple for all my jets. Going to go back and get the proper one for the 105!! The final finish was decanted flat lacquer as I wanted it to have a 'used' look, but, not completely dull/flat. It has a slight sheen in the right light, so, I was happy with the final coat. Can't say enough about Cartograph - excellent as usual. Anyway...done!!
Very cool! I like the barber pole pitot tube :-)
