Geez..had I a dollar for everytime I did that dame mistake!!!

I was doing some finishing touches, wanted to touch up the canopy frame, and masked it off just a little bit. After I sprayed, I pulled off the masking tape and oops, up come some decals. After some choice words, I ordered a new set (the same set I originally ordered for the Hun).

Oh well, I can use some of the "No Step" and other decals to add to my F 104. They should be here in about a week. I'll unveil both the the F 100 and F 104 at that time after I get them on.

And no, I didn't have the decals sealed yet.

Rob, I was using a mix of tamiya and blue painters tape. It probably could have been prevented if I had burnished the tape edges. Tamiya tape is excellent tape though.

Looking good thus far mailwalker. Do you use Tamiya brand masking tape? I find it the best to prevent leakage. As for the injector pin marks, can't see em very well from your sprue pic, but, sometimes you can shave them off with a sharp no.11 blade or sand them down (this depends on their position on the plastic though). If it's the top pic with the silver part in the middle, I'd say that could be sanded down if it raised or filled with filler and sanded smooth if its depressed. Sometimes, too, after test fitting a part (such as landing gear parts/doors) you may find that the ejector pin marks can't even be seen. That's a thought too.

Right on! She's on the home stretch now, eh?

I'm ready for decals, weathering and finishing touches.

Steve, looks great. I like the subtle variations in metallics on the surface. Very effective!

Here's my Hun so far. I still need to mask off some panels and the rear exhaust area befor I spray the gloss and add decals. I know it looks kinda  messy, but the F 100, from what I've seen, just doesn't have that polished look like the F 104 seems to have.

Comments, criticisms welcome.

I'm done with the 104 except for the wheels (should come this week). I'll finish the Hun and show them both at the same time.

Sorry to hear about the fit issues. Sometimes we think AM parts make it easier but allas ....

Hey Guys!

I've run into a roadblock on my F-102.  The fit of the resin cockpit/wheel well has been a real pain.  Either i can get the wheel well lined up which throws off the fit of the cockpit.  Or the cockpit lines up and the wheel well doesn't.  I'm not sure if I can install each piece separately as it's designed for the two pieces to be connected and then installed in the fuselage.  

I've even tried the kit cockpit tub with the wheel well and the fit is about the same as the resin parts.  I'll try to thin down the resin cockpit some more and see what the fit is like.  Maybe scratch build the wheel well box.  Bench time is tough to get for me this time of year due to work.  Once I ge this figured out I will take some photos.

Try painting the panels black and dry-brushing with silver, and make the brush VERY dry.

Well, finally getting some done on this F-100D. Please keep in mind not an expert, looking for tips to get better. Not real satisfied with the dry brushing, too smudged. Got a little bit of paint done on the e-seat and the fuel tanks and armament glued-up.

Yeah, I did the before too. I thought when you 'unlinked' a pic after placing it in the post, it would literally 'unlink' it from here. Not so much.

Well I went to clean out some of my Photobucket pics, and after deleting a couple I remembered the forum needed them to post. Since I also deleted them from my phone I would need to take new ones to repost.

Oh well, I'll have new progress to show soon.

I'm almost finished with the 104, I'm just waiting for the replacement wheels, otherwise it's complete.

Sorry for the lack of updates but I've been pre-occupied with life. Sigh.  Anyway, there are some great builds going on here.  Very nice F-104 Theuns.  Great job.

I finished the decals and putting on the speed brakes, fuel tanks and wheels.  All she needs now is finishing the weathering on the engines and installing them. Then a final gloss coat, a bit more weathering and some sparse use of a dull/satin coat.

Here is the progress so far.

I'm liking the look.

That is and excellent looking 104 Theuns!  

I only hope mine turns out half as nice.

I am awaiting my replacement USAF decal for the bottom wing then I will start to wrap this model up.

That's a very nice Starfighter. Great job.

The red stripe was a warning stripe showing where the turbine is. That is/was the most likely area

of danger if the engine came apart. It was there to tell the ground crews not to linger around that area any longer than necessary. I think the started to go away in the mid/late '60s.

Decaling done except for the bottom of the wings.
I have googled may pix of 104's and it seems they varied quite a bit when it came to finishing.
Some had the red line round the rear fuselage, some had more stensling than other ect.

I am trying to portray a 104c as it might have looked just before being ferried to Vietnam.
