Front page updated.

lewbud I will gladly send the cold weather to you mate!!

Being born and raised in the eastern low country in SA with weather much like Texas (hot and dry) I am not having fun with temps ranging between 3 degrees (morning) and about 10-15 deg celcius in the day.

Working in a hanger does not really help either!

I will take those temps all day long.  I can always add another layer to get warm, you can only take so much off to get cool.

Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.

Super stoked to see that we have such an excellent Roster!! Also, very pleased to see that the whole spread of Century jets are ALL represented....this build is going to be epic! Can't wait to get my 106, but, may take up to 5 weeks!!! Coming from Hong Kong, so, mail from there to Canada may be a bit crappy!! BUT, in the meantime, finishing my Braille scale GB, then starting on the Sci Fi, so, busy....

With such a long time scale for this GB, I might have to add another build to it.................maybe a 1/48 Trump F-1--D for a "misty" build ;-)

Putting on enough cloths for the cold weather does not really do much for the cold "dumb" hands that need to grip small bolts and connectors! Being to bulky also becomes an issue when crawling into a cramped rear fuselage to install a transponder mound   LOL

Hey Theuns, where exactly are you? Just for fun, looked at a weather map of SA and it showed mid 20's C ? LOL

So, you are going Canadian, eh? (Canadian joke...drumroll, plz Stick out tongue) Yeah, good choices of decal sets for the CF-104. I did the Cold Lake version and then another with aftermarket markings from a vendor here in Canada. O'Canada!

Ok, I'm going to have to give in to the pressure and sign up for this build,   I have a 1/48 monogram f-101 that I got at a swap meet for free that was probably 10% assembled, I had to pretty much disassemble it to fix the mistakes.

So I'll pull that off the shelf.  I plan to do it in Minnesota air guard colors as i grew up basically at the end of the runway.   I'll post picture later this week.  Toast

Looks like this is shaping up to be a great group build. Can't wait for everyone to get started...I'm holding out til 4 July when the MM gb starts as I will be doing a crossover with that.

Yeah it's there, it's just still on the tree.   But most of the other parts are in 2 zip lock bags!   I secretly have 4 or five other monogram 101's in my stash! Surprise

I was thinking of changing to a F-102 because so many others are doing the F-104.

I stopped by my LHS today and had a choice of the Encore kit or the Meng kit, so I picked the Meng.

It looks nice in 1/72 scale. I did notice one problem though:

The very well done instructions are for the ZPU-2 pickup truck!

I emailed Meng in China, lets see how long it takes me to get the correct

instructions.

Mark, Ok, let's just say the dude in Quality Control at Meng's got some 'splainin' to do, eh? This plane is big on my hit list, so, looking forward to your reviews and pics. I've heard accolades about it, but, will wait till you reveal it.

I haven't opened the parts bags yet but the kit looks nice. The parts are clean with little flash.

The panel lines are a bit heavy for the scale and the cockpit detail is very sparse.

I hope the parts go together well.

gotta switch gears I will be doing the monogram  f-106 1/48 scale instead of the 102. Still doing the 1/48 f-104 by ESCI as well. The 102 has a few missing pieces so decided on the 106.

There is no such thing as to many 104's!  One of the top 5 best looking planes ever to fly :-)

Hopefully I can get to my 104 soon, I have a deadline for test-flight at work of end of June so 12 plus hour days is nothing new now

Guys, here is my kit.

Hasagawa 1/48 F-104c, I will not go for the full colorfull scheme, but do want to do a highly pollished plane.

Theuns, looks like it's gonna be epic. Good choice on going with a metal finish. I think my 106 arrived in the mail Friday. Can't pick it up until Wednesday due to Canada Day, but, it has to be the kit I got from Ebay. Surprised because I was expecting it to take many weeks as it's coming from Hong Kong. Nice surprise. I will kick it off right away in conjunction with my Sci Fi build in progress.

Here's a shot at the box art - this is the Revell-Monogram plasting with some nice resin parts by Squadron.  Test fit of the fuselage and wings seems pretty good, not too much flash.

Interesting to see the delta layout of the 102 and the 106.....very much in the lines of the Dassault Mirage 3 series.

Theuns

I recommend  Alclad Chrome and polished aluminum for a highly polished look. I love the lines of the 104 which looks fast even when parked.

Does anyone have the Meng F-102 kit?

I still have not heard back from Meng, can anyone help

with a copied set?

Thanks

Mark
