Spraying the Alclad was fairly easy.  It's preparing the model surface which is the key.  Just follow Theuns advice he gave me over the last several pages.

Looking awesome there Craig. I am waiting for next month to get here so I can get some Alclad paint for another Group build. This will be the first time I have used it. Kinda worried about using it. Oh well it will be another learning experience.

Everyone's builds are looking great. I've been looking in periodically. Haven't gotten much progress done in the past several weeks, as we've been at or below freezing (difficult to airbrush outside), and a slew of other distractions. Hopefully I'll be back at it soon, as I got some really great kits waiting in the lineup.

Well, I started the masking.  What a pain in the ass.  Very tedious.  I decided to take a break for a bit, so I figured I'd post a few pics of what I've accomplished for far.  About an hour and a half of work and I'm barely half way there.  It's look pretty good so far I think.

With the effort and the good quality masking you are using there it will be a stunner I am sure.

I'm down in Houston TX. Sunny and fifties all day today. Air brush worked great in the garage today.

With our -24 deg Celcius temps I'm forced to open my patio door and have a fan draw the fumes out of my workroom (which is right beside the door), then, close up till the next spray. Bit of a pain, but, it works (and I don't pay for my heat, it's included )

Thanks flyerduke. When you are disabled like me you have the time (well most of the time) to work on a build all day. Building models is my outlet for pain and keeping me from being board. I have to keep my hands and fingers busy of I will lose the ability to use them like I need to. I call building models my medicine.

Wonderful progress.  I wanted to to the top coat on my F101 this last weekend but my computer went down and spent the weekend getting it back up.  Hopefully in the next few days I can lay some paint down.

I think that it's great you can use modeling as therapy.  It's a real strain on my eyesight.  I practically wear my Optivisor the whole time I'm at the work bench.  It's fun, so I work at it when I can.

Well, not that this progress is going to impress everyone, but it is progress. I installed the external fuel tanks. I did this before paint because there was a huge gap in the middle of the pylons, and I was afraid that the glue wouldn't hold after paint. It took alot of pressure to get the gap to close. I mean alot of pressure! My hand cramped, on each tank.

And here is how the front console looks installed. I realize I need to paint the top portion black, I believe. Overall I am satisfied with the console, the way the dial faces and things turned out. 

It's taking awhile, but I will make it by the end of this build

I finally finished taping off the plane.  It took about three hours and a crap load of tape.  I shot the plane with two coats of Testors enamel red.  It looks orange in the photos, but it's red.  I got a few spots to touch up.  It's not perfect, but I think it looks pretty cool.  I have to shoot a few black areas next.  Does anyone know if its cool to brush on Alclad to touch up the spots?

Looks wonderful, I would be afraid to attempt a job like that, I have bad ju ju when trying to paint that much of one contrasting color to another.  

Thanks for the kudos guys.  It was a pain to mask, but I think it turned out OK.  I'll let the red cure for another day then I'll mask off a couple small black sections and shoot those.  I'm gettin' close.

I finally broke down and got a coat of gloss gray on the top of the plane.  Thought I'd do a few light coats on the top then do the bottom since this plane exceeds my spray booth.  So far so good, other then a few cat hairs, which BTW  keeping cat hair out of my painting area is an impossible task around here.

I know the feeling Scott about the cat hairs. Great start.

Okay all here are some update photos.

With the masking job from hell and the fact that I made some major mistakes on the paint job and my airbrush messing up right in the middle of all of this, I almost pulled what hair I have out.

I just had the 105 and the 104 at our MOY , the competition was so stiff that neither of them even placed in the top 3 :-(

I will have to DRASTICALLY up my game to have a chance next year....

Wow Theuns, they were friggin' epic too...man, what do you have to do to beat em? After market parts out the hoop??

The winners did have some resin, not allot ,but the builder's skill level was just way better then mine.
