Bish: Man you are really turnin' on the juice on that build!!! Great detail and great paintwork!
Jay: That tail looks great dude. You know the wash is my least favorite part of the build it seems like. It's the point where you take all that beautiful paint work and kind of turn it upside down for a while. But the results always turn out to be worth it.

Jay - your K is looking great. Makes me want to jump in with another build!! (I am in the process of building three P-51's right now though, so I dont think that it will happen too soon)
Bish - The engine is loooking sharp, I have a feeling that the pictures dont really do it justice. Need to have something in the photo to show size!
Great work all, keep it up. I am enjoying the show.

Thanks fellows! Finished up the wash. Didn't go too heavy.

The Mighty Mo says no.
Thanks a lot guys, I am really enjoying building this.
Matt, good point, I think I will do that with the final pics, it will be on the stand then and will stand up properly.

Lovin the way your build is turning out. First. First Bf-109 I built( glue and paint) was the Bf-109G kit from Monogram( which I later learned was a Erla built G-10 of JG 300).
So far,not much progress. Waiting on bezels to show up at LHS.
Mike: Fine looking trio there.
Jay: Those decals look great as does your wash process. That underside is simply stunning.
Nathan: Thanks, I already use that stuff with my Gunze Aqueous. I still think it's too transparent as compared to Tamiya and their thinner X-20. I was just curious to which of Gunze's products thinned their lacquer line. It seems to be readily available so I may switch for my RLM needs. So to confirm...use Mr. "Leveling" with the lacquers?
Mustang: No doubt bro....that cat is pissing me off lately. I keep catch him sleeping on my bench.
Bob: Indeed...they don't care...I may install an electrified livestock fence around my bench.
Bish: That engine is looking great. Good to have you back.
Allen: Thats a good start...the waiting is the hardest part (thank you Tom Petty)
Brief update, I just decaled my Emil last night but I have no pics. I'm in the homestretch and should be finished by the end of the week.....key word..."should"...

Sorry for my lack of participation here, guys. I've been out of town for the last week without access to the forums. I'll get back home tomorrow though and the first thing I'm gonna do is to catch up on this GB...
Hey Clemens... you know, when you go dark like that we kinda worry about you! Safe journey!

I finished her up last night. To recap, it's the delightful Tamiya Bf 109 E-4 in the JG 26 Markings of Gerhard Schopfel around August of 1940, at the height of the Battle of Britain. Schopfel was very successful during the Battle and on August 18th, he scored four Hurricane's in one sortie and would amass a total of 45 kills by war's end.
The kit was typical Tamiya and is one of their easier builds (aside from my cat sitting on it.....I won't go there again) It's weakness is probably the cockpit, but in this case, I only added a True Details seat. It got Quickboost guns and Ultracast wheels to spruce it up further. I pieced together Schopfel's markings from various sheets I had on hand. Strangely my black Flory wash started acting up and left chunks of clay (its a clay based product) everywhere, which took more effort to get it into the panel lines. Perhaps my bottle is breaking down. I do love the war-weary appearence the wash leaves, but I may start looking at alternatives, such as the MIG stuff.
Thanks for having me once again.... you guys are the greatest. I may still be back with yet another, maybe Steinhoff's E-3.
Great job, Joe! Really nice painting and weathering. I like it a lot.
Nice work Joe. I love the way the colors blend and make your e-4 come alive. Very nice indeed.
As a side note I have finished up my other GB commitment and have started on my D. I will be doing the night fighter and have started on the pit.
Kim
Hey guys,
I am looking for a picture of the cockpit of the 109D. I would like to add some more detail to my pit. Does anyone have any or can direct me to where I can get some?
Thanks
moose ( Kim )
Joe your builds are always in the top notch range and this one's no exception regardless of how little AM stuff you put into it. I hate to hear that about the wash but looks like you pulled that off nicely. I use the MIG stuff and haven't been let down yet. It's really good stuff.
It's always good to have you in here to learn something from as I enjoy watching you just sweep through a cockpit in literally one day with the fantastic results you have. Let me know which pic you want to use in the Completed Builds section and I'll get it there. Let me know when you're ready to get back in here and build another.
P.S. : Just where do you display all of these builds at? You have to have ALOT of built kits displayed somewhere.
Edit @ 4:15 a.m.: Got your build posted in the intro Joe!
I have been working on the smaller bits. G-Factor gear legs which I am trying out Alclad chrome on. Hopefully it will hold up to masking when I spray them with 76. BarracudaCast spinner that still needs it's oil wash. Quickboost gun barrels and exhaust. Barrels just painted black and drybrushed of Vallejo oily steel. Exhaust shields thinned on the edges for a more scale appearance.
lawdog114- Very nice!
Here are a few pics of the Bf109 and the IP from one I took at the 8th AF Museum last week.
Cheers,
Bob
Thats Awesome Bob! Where is this museum? I have th 3 volume set of books titled " The Mighty Eighth"abit pricy but a great reference. I've always bee fascinated by these brave men, and try to read all I can on them.
Excellent work, fellas! Lot's of inspiration!
I'm still around. I just took a bit of a break there. I am about 90% complete with my E-4, with decals applied today. Weathering to go. I'm proud of it so far. If all goes well it will be my personal best build ever!
-Tom
Dang, I missed way too much. Time to catch up!
Kevin: Welcome aboard! I got you added to the build list. Your build looks very good so far.
Jay: The paint job on your K-4 looks truly stunning! A very interesting scheme too! Some very nice, subtle weathering as well!
Brandon: I love your cockpit work! The amount of details in there is spectacular!
Joe: I'm a huge fan of your painting and weathering techniques and you never fail to utterly impress me! Great work all around on that Emil!
Bish: That engine is really taking shape now and she's a beauty!
Mike: The preshading on your assembly likne looks very nice!
I hope I didn't miss anyone here...
Cheers, Clemens
Jay: Awesome work so far on that spinner and landing gear.
Bob: Nice pics!!!!
I went to the IPMS Houson Modelmania show this weekend and managed to slip out with this:
and this (although not an aviation subject I was proud of it nonetheless)
and this I was really proud of...........
Nice work Mustang. Way to bring home some brass and wood.

Lawdog -- awesome result, I just love the finish! The base adds remarkably to the sense of realism, and that is just one beautiful model!
Mustang -- nice brass and woodwork! Sweet models that have garnered their deserved praise!
I manage a little progress as work has thinned out a tad -- I completed masking and seam work on two of the three projects, and applied the 65. Here's a shot of them with the flaps masked and mounted:

I recently did , or tried to do, one of those but as a K4 conversion. The canopy ruined it for me, it was to thin. Although you can't widen it, I guess you could sand the sides of the fuselage narrower and scribe back lost detail. I ended up finishing it as it was, with a 1mm step on each side and gave it to my 3 year old grandson. It's hanging from his ceiling now. Someday I hope it will tickle his fancy to build a model or two.
JOE... That is simple outstanding! Well deserved. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!
