I have found one problem I will have to deal with. The area where the storage compartment is on the right fuselage half wasn't molded correctly. Never had a problem with Hasegawa before, so I guess I was due.

Thanks, guys. Joe, I use a small piece of coarse sponge, held with tweezers. and Citadel Mithril Silver. Dab it on something until most of the paint is gone, and then dab it on the model. Similar to dry brushing. Then a raw umber oil wash to tone it down a bit.

Thunder: Looks like your making some progress there. Keep 'er coming man. Got a close up of the side paneling?

Craig: Nice progress report. I'll be back in an hour or so with pic for you to show you the tail control surface cables that are visible through that open panel. Those are easy though, no sweat.

Jay: Outstanding attention to detail and love the weathering. What method did you use to get the paint chips on the seat back? I remember doing my 1/24 scale interior, which is very similar to this one, and using silver paint as primer and I scratched the surface after painting to get the effect. It's a slight variation of the look you have here.

Ditto -- sweet work on that pit!

Okay, my first minor progress report -- pits underway for the E-4 and D, along with gear bays, props and so forth. I added the pit for the Fw that's happening at the same time too..

Not a lot to show for a couple of days of painting and trimming, but I should be assembling come the weekend.

I'm thinking about sending away for some True Details wheels, the wheels of the Hobbycraft D are not very accurate.

Cheers, M/TB379

Farther along on the cockpit. RB Productions seatbelts. I generally install the shoulder belts towards the end of the build. Quickboost stick. Been trying to use up the AM stuff I have. Not sure what I was saving it for and I'm not getting any younger.

Impressive, methodical work, Craig, she's going to be a beauty!

I have a question that the experten here will probably know something about. The Aeromaster sheet I'll be using for my D I've just noticed does not feature stencil data. Was the stencil data for the D more or less equivalent to early Es? Does anyone specifically make stencils for the D, or is it a question of grafting over E data? The decal set (Aeromaster 48-496) makes no mention of stencils, and I'm grinding my teeth because I only just realised...

I had a few hours to work on the kit today.  Still waiting for the cockpit PE parts to arrive, so I'm jumping around a bit.

Craig

Put the radio pieces together and test fitted them.  I decided to install the radio gear and leave the access panel open.

I repainted some of the RLM 02 pieces.  The MM RLM is a little lighter and doesn't have that OD tint.   Not sure if the photo shows it.  Also started to paint some of the black parts.  Will be painting the engine soon.

Got the guns assembled and painted.

Hi guys, progress is occurring on the cockpits and wings of my twin builds. I contacted my source for Eduard masks but the shop doesn't reopen til the 19th -- :-( !! So my plan is to press on with the D, I think I can mask that one from scratch, and get the E-4 built and complete short of the preshade stage before setting it aside. Today I'll see if I can get the props into 70. What the heck, I'm prepping a Fw 190 at the same time!

Depending on how things go, I may go back into armour mode for a while and complete a couple of leftover projects from last year while waiting on the mask sets, but will not be far from this GB!

Just about every one of those books are like that. Some have fewer pics than others but for they are an awesome source of information. I have the He111, Ju-87, Bf109 E and G series, Fw109 A-F and D series, He162/Me163, and the Bf110 Aero Detail books and wouldn't trade 'em for anything. Good stuff!Yes

Aero Detail just does the E and G. I would recommend Lynn Ritger's books on the 109. Sprue Brothers usually has them. Part 2 is for F-K. Also Monograph's Messerschmitt Bf109F:The Ace Maker is good.

I have only seen two. Aero Detail #1 is the bf109e and then # 5 the bf109g. They are in Japanese but there is English under the Japanese.  Tons of pictures and info for each G variant.

Allen: Looking forward to your start up and glad you're here for a groundbreaking in the 109 arena.

jelliott: Also glad to have you here for a first time 109 build. There's a wealth of info and talent here so don't be shy about asking questions.

Nice work on all of those who have started their projects!  I'm getting antsy waiting for my kit to get here.  I got a notice that it has been shipped and should be here in a day or two.  That gives me time to run out and get a few basic paints in the RLM line to get me started.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

Awesome starts so far.

I'm anxious to start my first ever 109 and am looking forward to learning lots from you guys.  There seem to be quite a few of us first-timers in here.

I'm just waiting for the one last critical component to arrive, hopefully this week and then I can get on with it.

I have been enjoying everyone's work so far. I have been working on my Hasegawa F. Most of the cockpit is done and the wings are together. I prefer to show the leading edge slats closed and on Hasegawa 109's that requires adding strips to the bottom to fill up the space, so that's done, and they are ready for the riveting process. Hasegawa definitely improved the cockpit detail on the F. I have always used AM on the other ones I have built, but will go with the kit one on this build. Finished the IP using the kit decals, but I did cut them into several pieces to get them to lay down better. They responded well to setting solution. Joe, I didn't want you to think I was slackingSmile

Man Joe,

That is intense! I'm not familiar with that kit. Did you make all those bulkheads or did they come with it?

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Well my friends another short update.

What you will see here is just a quick mock up, something that I am doing an awful lot of, to make sure the interior will fit as I build up the detail.

First up a couple of individual items. A roughed out set of O2 tanks for the pit.

And the first rendition of the FuG 16 Radio equipment.

I do not like the frame for it. I actually redid that, you will see that in the pictures upcoming.

Now to make sure it all fits as it should I again mocked it up with white glue and added the pipping for the cables. I mocked up a new frame for the radio equipment.

All mocked up....

And all together....

I like this frame better. You can see more of the equipment. Going to let this sit overnight and then tomorrow see if it looks as good. If it does I will start with the touch up on the O2 bottles, the framework, and get working on the plumbing.

All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

Joe

Thanks Jay.  I thought about it all day at work.  I thought the 601 was a turbocharger.  I'll strip the rust color and paint it like the rest of the engine.

Craig

Turbochargers are driven by exhaust, supercharges by various other means.
