Hey Misty, why worried about the fit of the cover?! Leave it off! That bay is too good to be hidden. Great job.

Well folks it looks like this is starting to look doable.

The basic set up here with the master cylinder/ brake booster set up:

FSCN0152_zps5l3b3rjy.jpg

I primed the front brake rotors (washers) with black gloss yesterday and shot 'em with a coat of Alclad today. You'll notice that I flattened one side of the washers. This allows my calipers to sit perfectly on the rotors instead of looking like they are resting on the outside edge of them.  I also cut some brass rod to .180" length to mount the rotors onto. The short length allowed for the "step down" to mount up the wheels later. Today I'll be drilling out the brake calipers for brake lines and painting the calipers red. I removed the chrome from both of the calipers yesterday in order to prep for all of the painting.

Thanks Steve.

Almost forgot guys. Here's my sons Mack Truck so far. I've touched up the wheels a tad with some Tamiya Smoke to give them a little more of a realistic look.

Great work Joe (and son) ,like the washer idea for brake calipers! I'll be starting my 56 Ford Crown Vick pretty soon. Going to be a tad different then the aircraft sequence. I'm going to do body work and paint first since it takes the longest to dry completely, Again, great work to you and your youngun.!

Joe - your brake system is awesome.

A little more progress today I added the new frame rails and painted the engine. Also added some body putty to the seams on the cab. I'm out of gray primer and my Hobby Lobby was also out so next week I will be able to finish priming the cab.

Doug: Thanks man! I'm really looking forward to seeing you strut your stuff in the automotive realm. Remember , no dark washes here. lol. To bring out panel lines go a couple of shades darker than your base color.

Dan: This thing is really wild!! Yes

The top of the radiator is hitting the hood, so I'll pull it out tomorrow and fix it so it sits flat... didn't notice until I put the hood on.

Really nice so far Tim. These builds of yours are scureemin' "Take me to a show!".

Today I had to work on something that would yield tangible results...............so I switched over to the rear tires. I painted the white lettering, lightly sanded the letter tops after the paint dried to level the paint out a bit, applied a coat of dull coat onto the tires and dry brushed some ground up black pastel across the sidewalls to give 'em that added "used" look.

Tim it's amazing what a little sun light will do to bring out the color in a paint job. Yours looks great thanks for sharing.

Since the '67 Chevelle is now Under Glass and ready for the car show this weekend, I figured I'd get started on the '65 tonight.  This will be my first attempt at cutting the doors and trunk out, so I figure its gonna take me a little longer than usual.  I'll also be using flocking material for the first time as well.  I spent about 30 minutes tonight cutting on the trunk and then another 30 making the hinges and mounting them up.  I have to order some magnets to mount and see the trunk/doors.  This one will be fun!

Exterior: Metallic Black

Interior: Dark Gray/Light Gray Combo

Wheels: Custom

Here is what I got done tonight.  Thanks for looking!

Tim, Great looking Chevelle! Takes me back to my teens... two of my friends had Chevelles identical to the one you built.

Misty... Let her enjoy her Sun Beams! Shes a beauty. I lost (last fall) my companion of 19 years, she used to try to crawl into my lap while building, miss her alot! Again, shes beautiful!

Well, I wish hinging the doors was a lot easier than it looks.  Cutting the door out was cake, just time consuming.  Making the hinge the correct size so it didn't interfere with the rest of the interior and making sure door opened and was level, was another story.  Practice makes perfect, hopefully!  lol

I ordered some hobby magnets to mount and conceal them in the doors and trunk to keep them closed.  I'm using 18 gauge aluminum wire, which makes it strong enough to withhold normal opening and closing, but easy enough to bend and adjust, if needed.

Tim

Here is the passenger side door panels and doors carved out and hinged.  Once everything dries good, I will make the door jambs.

PSD3-vi.jpg

Just another shot to show a functioning, level door.  There is piece of tape to keep the door closed.  I'll crimp the tubing a little more to give it a little bit of friction and make it a little less easy to open.

Typical hinges...

Tim,

That is a beautiful Chevelle! I'll be interested to watch how you do the doors and trunk. Already looks good.

Mopar,

That's a nifty build hehehehe.

I sprayed 3 coats of the Flamingo Red today. I thought the paint was acrylic but it was actually lacquer, which I've never sprayed before and should have tried it out first hehehehe.  I got good coverage and no runs but do have some slight pebbling in the front. I think most of it will flatten out as it dries and then sand the rest out after it's dried for a week. The photo is a little dark but I think it's gonna look sharp with the Ivory roof.

L8TR,

Eric.

Lookin great Eric!! I think that finish on the fenders will polish out for you bud!

Ok I managed to get the brake rotors installed and the brake calipers mounted up on that. I guess I could have made mounts for them but where does one stop? LOL. I did drill holes for brake lines to be installed and will be working on that coming up. I also applied some alclad to the inner rim edges and painted the backs of the wheels.

Here's the front suspension / brake setup so far:

And another mock up just to make sure I'm still tracking straight here. Never enough test fitting I'll tell you that............
