Today was very productive.  I say the van is 90% done, pending the doors installation, exterior mirrors, door handles and few more thingies...

Tires had lettering done along with some weathering to continue with the "muddy" theme going on. Front off road bumper and lights along with a winch were done also.

Cool, I didn't know that Humbrol made spray can paint. In the photo it looks dark blue, but I see now that it's a reflection of the sky.

Did you use Tamiya?

No, it is Humbrol Acrylic Black Gloss, and then I used a coat of clear. It's the second time using the clear and I mistakenly did it inside, quite potent stuff :)

That van is amazing, the amount of detail is just mind-boggling. I'm just building out of the box at the moment, but having been through this thread and seen some of the added detail is very inspirational.

Thats a good job on the Audi.

Minor update, finally the body, interior, and chassis were glued, after heavy negotiations....

Also got the grill in place after heavy negotiations too. What a horrible fitting in this thing!Angry

That's a nice rattle-can paint job, Dave. Did you use Tamiya?

A few update pics of the Audi R8. I used a spray can for the body, but the remainder is hand painted. Still haven't tried an airbrush yet but probably will once I have a few models under my belt.

Thanks

Dave

Had a setback in my van model since my beloved doggie put his front legs over it and basically unglued and broke some of the work on the roof rack....so mad and frustrated right now.

Had to get something done on this puppy. After removing the tons of flash that this cab/ front clip had, it was time to primer it. Will be moving on to the doors next.

Tim: What a build man! That thing looks clean!! If there's one thing I want to be able to accomplish out of watching you build is the magnificent paint finish you are able to pull off consistently. Great job so far bud.Yes

Hi

Wow, very impressive builds here.

I was wondering if it was to late to join this group build. I have just started on an Audi R8 from Revell and since I am learning and quite new to this forum I figured joining a group build would be a good way to get to know other members, having already learnt so much from you guys from just lurking around the forums.

Thanks

Dave

I hope everyone had a nice 4th of July.  We took 7 days and relaxed in the lake house at Smith Mountain Lake, VA.  Did some skiing, did some fishing, and a whole lot of relaxing.  Anyhow, I was waiting on my PE seatbelt buckles to come in before I started buttoning it up and they arrived while we were gone.  I've just about got this one finished, just some minor things to clean up, adjust the doors and trunk a little and a few things here and there.  Front bumper has to be mounted too...  Here are a few pics of the updates.  Thanks for looking!

Tim

The exact stance I was looking for!

Engine bay wired up and plumbed...

Mustang - I'm impressed that you still have those photos. Very impressive work on your build up, I am enjoying it.

Seabe - That looks like a good little project, but I can see the work in it. I am sure it will be very rewarding.

My news is that I've finished the NASCAR and will post some photos over the weekend. It really sucked me in, and I'll build a few more although I would prefer to start with a normal kit, rather than one of these prefinished things. Anyway, its been converted from an annoying stash item into a model on the shelf, so all good. It awakened me to the wonderful world of NASCAR modelling :)

That being said, I feel that I need to get back to my prime interest, F1, and a project I can really get in to.

I started my Lotus 102B to Lotus 102 conversion yesterday. I've sanded the tyres to scrub them and remove the seams, and sprayed the kit rims gloss black in preparation for decals. It's a good place to start the conversion because  I don't have to think about converting them, just gets me into the project.

There is some really good info on the web from people who already have considered or done this conversion, so I don't have to analyse it as deeply as I did for the Ferrari F93A conversion I did last year.

Studio 27 did the decals a few years back, so they come out of the stash. It will be kerbside, so I won't change the engine but will hide it under the engine cover. The biggest challenge is the nose, which is quite different. I'll try to find something in the stash that I can hack up and use. I'm ok with doing that, it justifies my buying too many cheap F1 kits at swap meets for exactly that purpose :)

Photos to come...

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Just picked this bad boy up off of Ebay....

Two more Street Demon kits to go.....

DSC_0566-1.jpg

Funny thing about this kit and another reason I wanted it. These are the only pictures of ANY model I've got from the early years. Here's my Revell "Street Demons" 41 Willys about 30 years ago ....

Don't ask about the display or the quality. Ha ha!!! I guess it was my best shot at early photography with a really crappy camera.

Really impressive, Mustang!

Yeah, at last have some pics. Early days on the demon build (which I am sure this will turn out to be!) but here's some proof that I have actually opened the box!

Kit content - wish me luck! (some got cropped off a bit...) The cutting mat will give an idea of scale. From the scale and parts, you'll see why I have some trepidation - least of all building my first superkit in public.

Some thinning done on the engine cover, unfortunately the flash spoiled the photo a bit... again, you can get an idea for the scale relative to my fingers!

Some accessories getting prepped. The hole in the engine cover was not asked for in instructions, but that is where an antenna would have passed through if it was fitted onto the body. Also some tanks.

Last but not least, the initial slap-together of engine base (that top part is loose and already fitting better!), sidepod internals and cockpit on top of the floor. Plenty holes drilled already and first to be filled will be the (dreaded!) mirrors. Will add them and the front wing pillars before painting commences. Mind you, if I'm contemplating paint, I'll have to plan on other red parts as well. Rear wing assemblies, front wing endplates, sidepods and barge boards. Okay, the painting bit will have to wait a bit!

Tony: Thanks buddy! Big Smile

Seabe: Cool man! You got any progress pics?Cool

Ok I've got the fuel line formed and laid in place. Rear tires are now on as well as front rotor bearing caps.

To recap....

This is what the kit boxing has for the chassis

Still gotta install the exhaust system and a few other things on the underside but we're getting closer.

It's done! Both boxes are now cracked open an the fun has commenced.

Williams FW11 - started in the middle of the instructions by getting going on the engine block. That and some other parts received their SGB. By pure accident I first grabbed the gloss black from the Lotus 97 - usually SGB is the only/first black visible. Oh well, realised my error once they've dried and redid in SGB. Started prepping main body parts for their paint (white). To my dismay, the yellow section needs to be masked. No indications as to where. Bordered by blue colour decals, so I may go erroring on excessive side, since the blue decals seems solid (and not translucent) enough in colour.

The Ferrari F310B was  unboxed. Looking at all the parts, I nearly put it back, but went on to sort them and then started working on it immediately. Just did some thinning of the edges to try and get the body parts, diffuser, etc looking a bit more to scale. Actually started assembling the engine block there as well. And I drilled a load of holes! And of coursed smoothed those out as well, inside and out. Took a quick pic of the parts, but still on the camera.

Thanks Seabe and Joe!  I worked on the R/H front line this morning and got it all painted and installed a union/ joint to split the front half of the line up in order to make it somewhat easier to handle and form.

Hey Steve, only noticed it now... the Lotus description you posted was that of my Lotus from last years' GB! This one was a 43rd Tameo Lotus 97T, Portugal '85 - Senna's first win!

Tony, the RB6 will come along shortly. Changed my mind to do the FW11 first. But would've been a Vettel version, sorry for all you Aussies! Think the 102B to 102 conversion is quite doable! Good idea, much better livery! And agreed - those wheels of yours do look hot!

Tim, if that's the mock-up, I don't want to see the end product! Lookin' great!

Mustang, that looks superb! Really great detail.

Progress on my side? I've started gluing together two parts on the Williams! That counts as progress, eh? And the intimidating Tameo box staring at me? Well... I've taken out all the decals and laid them down below something to get them straightened - just a habit I have. I have also taken out the instruction booklet. I think it weights ore than the remainder of the kit! Nope, nothing more. I'm looking at the box, looking back at me.

Wheels and tires look fabulous Tony!! Looking forward to seeing you "work your magic" on that exhaust.

Seabe: I'll get that entry changed for you pal. No problemo man!

Everybody: Ok fellas after 4 days of bending, cursing, re-bending, more cursing and yet more bending and forming(and cursing)  I think I've got it. I finally got smart and took a photo of the last "screw up" with it installed and made adjustments based off of the photo. Why I didn't do this sooner is beyond me!!!emotion-8.gif I ended up having to slightly tweek the other front brake line at the distribution block to get it the two lines to look similar but I think I can move forward now. I still have the front part of the R/H front brake line to go and paint the line but this right here is a break through for me.

Here we go:
