I noticed that the tips were not to scale thickness so I took a step backwards and removed the tips, drilled 'em out to scale thickness and then coated the tips with Future to retain that polished look over time.

Had a "bit of a setback" on the Williams. When I started applying the blue line decals - I found that my interpretation of where I should mask was not correct. Now I must find a way (and I can only think of one!) to try and fill some white gaps between the yellow and the blue decal. There goes all hope for neat lines, hand painting here we come. :(

Will take and post pics later, but on both kits the seats are done. Hate is such a strong word, but I really do not like these raised molded seatbelts you have to paint, but that was the case with the Williams. The Ferrari had the usual PE belts. Felt that I did a give them a bit more effort this time around.

On the Ferrari, the engine cover is basically done, as is the rear wing. Test fitted to the base of the engine and it fits as well as I can judge it at this time. Let's hope it fits straight when the big day comes a couple of months down the line.

Man I hate to hear that there Seabe. Any way you could mask off and airbrush white between the gaps? Been there and done that and you're right, it is frustrating. Hang in there bud and post some pics when you can.

Haha, it IS white... I need to get it (of all miserable colours) yellow... ;) I really hate painting yellow, it THE worst colour to paint. So I know up-front it will mismatch ito colour depth, etc. Will just have to smile and wave and do the best I can. And now seeing how well the blue decal covered the yellow, I feel like an even greater idiot for having worries to get it "close". Oh well, just have to do the best we can from here...

Well this morning I wrapped up the L/H tail pipe after 3 remakes. I've got it coming out equally on both sides and at the correct lengths. I have to do some minor tweeking on the exhaust pipe going over the differential on the L/H side due to the bed fitting a little crooked but that's small stuff.

 I've gotta say that the last couple of days have been trying on my patience and my eyes. I painted the carburetors a mix of chrome silver and gold and then toned them down with a light wash of Tamiya Smoke which brought out the detail a little better as well. After that I fabricated the fuel lines out of pins and solder. At first I had installed the fuel lines facing the wrong way so I had to start over and install the fuel lines with the inlets facing the passengers side instead of the drivers side where all my throttle linkage is supposed to be. Lastly I started to work on the throttle linkage. Jeez what a night mare! I paid for that one with a small headache from working under visor for too long without a break. I cut out all the PE for it and set it all aside last night and started to work on it pretty heavy this morning.
Anyways here's where I'm at so far just for a little progress report............

I inserted the stretched sprue for the common linkage pivot rod so I've still got some work to do here like install the arms off of the rod and the linkage from the arms to each carburetor but you get the picture....

This morning I worked on the throttle linkage at the intake manifold starting with the base bracket. I formed it and added the retaining bolt heads and then installed both levers and a retaining nut onto both levers at the "pivot point". I actually went over this morning on time so I'm running short on that this morning.

and here's the bracket and linkage that mounts up at the base of the intake manifold....(the camera kept trying to focus my hand instead of the part but I finally got it after a few shots).

Made it back to the bench to get some work done on this one. I BMF the tool boxes and sprayed Alcad on the bed frame and fuel tanks.

 I've got to install a couple of pieces of hardware to top this all off but you're lookin' at about 95% complete right here. I've still gotta add the accelerator pedal linkage but that's it.

Remember that turn signal bulb that I broke and stole the filament out of? I used it as the throttle return spring......

Apologies for not being involved the last month, been on holiday and then busy with return to work.

So I have hit my first brick wall in my early modelling career with the La Ferrari and decided to move onto something else before tackling it again. So I built a VW Beetle:

It wasn't a great job but I love the colour. It's for my sister in law and that is the colour she wanted :)

Okay, so after all my riding a bike, a bit of recovery - I'm back at it... some progress pics.

First off the FW11:
Engine section is coming along.

Front body section, the bugger-up with the masking and efforts to correct it is painfully obvious...

Last but not least the steering wheel, which I tried to get a bit more rough look to - think it came out okay.

 

Onto the F310B (keep in mind - 43rd scale...)

Rear wing done - rear decal a biiit too high, will correct. (One of those things you only see on this much enlarged photo!)

Seat also ready to roll, not the best picture, sorry...

Engine cover done, some minor touch-ups could be done here...

...and I also completed the name plate!

Hoping for some more action this coming weekend. But some more races coming up... interesting times!

I started work on the common fuel rail for the carburetors. I used .062" diameter solder as a basis for it and drilled two holes in the sides for the fuel inlet lines to the carbs and one in the end at the back of the fuel rail for the fuel inlet line from the fuel pump. I shot some gloss black over it and set it aside to dry. In a few days I'll shoot a coat of chrome alclad over it to give it a nice shine.

I put the air inlet horns on top of the carburetors today. Man does that engine stand tall in the frame! I feel pretty good about where I'm at with this build right now.

As I put this build back up in its holding cell I noticed that the "down low" view gave it an even more aggressive stance so I brought it back down and took a picture of it that way.....

Well I've got the fuel line installed and routed. I used a pin for chrome fuel line and coated it with some Tamiya Smoke X-19 to give it that true metal look and made a 90 degree banjo fitting to go onto the fuel rail at the carbs. Check it out....

I started on the inner fender wells yesterday by removing all that nasty molded on detail and cleaned it up and painted it.

And after. (This still needs to cure out so I can polish it up and make it into a mirror finish but you can see the difference so far). I also neatly notched out where the brake line goes over the frame so as not to interfere with inner fender well to frame fit.

Started work on the "carpet" yesterday and spot corrected this morning. I still have a little trimming left to do but I'm all good with it. While I'm at it the dash is pretty much finished. A little trimming here and there on the chrome BMF and we'll be set there.

It's been real quiet in here as of late so I'll start things off by posting an update:

The past few days have been spent on body prep for paint. Sanding, filing, filling and all that crap. Anyhow, moving right to the "meat and potatoes" of the post.......
I painted the cab this morning with Tamiya Acrylic Red X-7 and will be letting it dry out for the rest of the day. So far I'm ok with it but have one paint run on the R/H side that I'll have to wet sand out. It'll be a little tricky because it's right on a high point but I think if I'm careful enough I'll be ok.

My silence has been simply because there was no progress. As in NONE! Well, except I dismanteled my 43rd steering column, because it seemed skew. So now to re-do that...

But after my MTB race, I've now been doing one offroad duathlon, a halfmarathon trail run, with another next weekend in Table Mountain - slopes of Lions Head and Signal Hill, can't wait! Our evenings were chaotic due to my mother-in-law being in hospital for a couple of weeks.

So, hoping to get going on something shortly. I think it's a case of once I get going, I'll be back on a roll.

Seabe, sorry to hear that your mother-in-law was ill, hope she is better soon. Sounds like you have been very busy.

I've finished the BMW. Not totally happy with it as there are some issues with fit but I have learnt a lot more with this build so will take that into the next one.
