PS: Well, I'm pretty much done with the cockpit on my giant Zero... after six friggin' months... (sheesh). She should be almost ready to close up except I lost a part out of the landing gear, anyone know much about Tamiya's customer service on stuff like this?

Great fine updates on the Haruna Allan 

Perfect painting on the Seiran cockpit PJ :) i have the 1/72 version and basically seems to have the same detail level, just smaller

Some updates on the Haruna:

The PE stuff come on. Theyll be painted at the same time as the ship.

I plan to build the FW 190 from this kit. Maybe the 109 too, but I'll confirm that later.

BSY, your seats are fantastic.

That Haruna looks really good too, makes me feel all naval.

I built the Tamiya Nanzan a few yearws back, which is a Seiran without floats. I liked the kit a lot.

I hope to come by here with my entry fairly tuned, just finishing off some other less important builds :))

I finally got started on the Seiran. It's been a while since I haven't played with a Tamiya kit and forgot how well they fall together.

Got the pit assembled and painted. The instructions say that the pit is grey. I did some research and the Seiran had a "Bamboo Green" pit color and Tamiya XF71 is a good match. To make the oil wash flow better on to the raised details, I mixed Future with the XF71 to get a glossy green paint. This way I did not have to go the extra step to spray clear gloss over the pit. I then mixed up some Burnt Umber oil paint with turp to make a wash. Now to let it dry and it will receive a light coat of flat lacquer to even out the finish. I will also add some Eduard belts to dress up the seats.

I painted the rear IP Vallejo black and drybrushed the raised details white to pop them up.

I painted the IP and added clear parts cement for the glass faces.

Thanks Gamera. A while back she destroyed a pe sheet I had left on the table edge. Thank God she did not eat any metal parts. 

OUCH! So far haven't had the dog use anything for a chew toy but I think it's only a matter of time... Got your Seiran down.

Earlier today I finished shooting some Floquil Old Silver on the Jake in preparation for some hairspray so I put the little plane on the table we have out by the pool to dry.

Apparently my Rottie/Lab was so fond of the little guy that she grabbed it while I wasn't looking and............ 

So please put me down for a 1/48 Tamiya Aichi Seiran.

Mike: You're going to enjoy that kit. I built another version years ago and it went together like clockwork.

Bsyamato: Very nice work on those seats, even more so when I remind myself they're 1/72nd!

Allan: That is some beautiful masking, wish mine were a tenth as good!

PS: I am on vacation/holiday so my posting here may be a bit irregular for the coming week or so. Just depends on how good the wi-fi of the motels I'm staying at is. 

Some updates on the Haruna.  Its actually a pretty easy build, and as expected from Pit Road/Skywave the details are excellent.

After a coat of black, I started painting on the deck markings --- walkways, stripes and all...

Lots of good building going on here! Time for me to step up with my kit selection.

This is a nicely detailed kit and I've been looking forward to building it. Plan is to go with a slightly weathered finish, first time attempt at the hairspray tecnique. Since the photo was taken I've been doing some subassembly and base painting. WIP pics to come.

Floats were attached

Holes for support wires drilled on wings and pontoons

Pit was completed. Lap belts were made from masking tape and painted brown leather. The thick plastic loop antenna was replaced by one made from thin copper wire.

More to come.

I did a litle more work on the little guy. I took some plastic strip and cut them for interior ribs.

They were glued to the sides

Then I sliced up some plastic stock into small boxes and glued them on to the pit sides. Now the pit has some details that will pop with some washes. Looks better than before.

I still have to add the IP and some seat belts and a few other details but it's shaping up and looking a little busier than before.

The canopy has a damaged edge where it attached to the clear sprue. I attempted to sand and polish the damaged spot then gave it some Future which did help in hiding the damage. Like I said before, once the canopy goes on, most of the pit details will be very hard to see.

I also got the wings and pontoons assembled and cleaned up.

That's it for now.

LOL I have the same kit that I picked up at a model show 6 years ago for $1. I started on mine and thought about adding some pit details but after the canopies go on I think most if not all details will be hidden by the thick clear plastic.

Well here is my entry and the obligatory picture of the box.

I used the back side of a #11 blade to deepen the flap, wingfold and aileron lines.

I also used my razor saw to separate the open cowl flaps.

I have this small pe fret to improve the radio antennas.

I'm still playing around with the pit details so that's about all for now.  

Bsyamato: Looks good to me. I think I've said before I hate masking and painting the leading edge ID bands, really nice work on yours. 

Allan: Nice work there on the added bulkheads, with paint on there I can't tell them from the kit parts.

Reinforced the waterline "keel" with 3mm styrene and epoxy to prevent warping later.
