Thanks Allan, I do love the seatbelts. I think it was Brandon K. who pointed them out to me, very thin fabric with teeny-tiny PE buckles. They were a pain to put together but I love the looks of them. He used a set of 1/48th ones, the 1/32nd were almost smaller than I could handle!

The 1/72 Taniya 1/72 Aichi M6A1 Seiran.

I was watching a documentary on the I-400 submarine, couldn’t help myself and ordered it from Squadron for a Father's Day present to myself. 

When I get to it, it will be displayed in water of course, probably on the high seas with light chop waiting for pickup. If it doesn’t come with figures I may have to recruit a Luftwaffe crew, if I still have any. The reviews seem pretty good so it should be enjoyable.

I'm doing one  in 1/48 and it's a great kit with nice detail. I read somewhere that the 1/72 one is a scaled down version of mine so it should be a great kit to work on. 

Steve: Sure, sounds great! Love to see how you do the water, I've a few sea planes here I'd like to do that way. Think I'll miss the Floats and Boats GB though.

Hello there, Gamera I would like to enter in my Hasegawa 1/48 Nakajiam B5N2 Type 97.  This will be my first Japanese aircraft.

I finally was able to get back to work on the Seiran. It's ready for the Eduard canopy mask and paint. I also got the dolly assembled and is also ready for paint.

Dan: Very cool, I'll go put you down now and welcome! 

PJ: Now that's a nice smooth perfect primer coat, looking forward to seeing some paint slapped on her. 

Thanks Gamera. Yep color is next and speaking of color it will sport a rather unusual scheme of IJN Green over orange with some red primer showing thru. This particular scheme was found on a Seiran found on Nagoya by GIs.

The dolly looks to be part wood and part metal as I suspect it to be as such for strength. I will be doing both the hair sprar and salt technique for the distressing on both the aircraft and dolly.

Oh wow, that's neat, I've seen a few photos of the green over orange but never an experimental Seiran. 

It will not be a derelict as in the picture but in operational condition.

I picked 'er up at the LHS today thinking about the Amphibious build going on and happily, I'd love to crossover to this GB as it's a perfect fit for the subject of this GB!!

Rob: I think that kit's been around awhile. I've got an ancient copy of it I picked up a few years ago for cheap since it looks like a dog chewed on the box. Everything is there though. I wasn't sure how to replace all those tiny rivets when I sand the parts from assembling them. I bought some of decal rivets I'm going to try whenever I get around to the thing. Love to watch you build yours.

Some incredible work being done here! Glad to be part of it. I have some progress with the Kawanishi. She's a massive bird!! 22" wingspan in 1/72. Largest 1/72 I've ever done. Anyway, as Gamera mentioned, AND, he's correct, she's a a bit of a turkey! Yeah, it's a super old kit and I have spent quite a bit of time sanding, sanding and MORE sanding! AND, add in the molded rivet detail...there's prob a few thousand rivets, so, sanding was and continues to be tedious! there's next to nothing to see in the cockpit, so, quickly past that to the fusing of the fuselage.

The fuselage fuse left a massive 'trench' down the seam-line of which I spend too much time trying to fill and sand AND preserve the rivet detail. I, in the end, layed a bead of streched sprue down the line and sanded it flat.

The underside sealed and sanded nicely, thank goodness!

Thats it for now. Next to tackle that 22" wide upper wing.

Lots of sanding and polishing Rob  so I don't envy your task but it's a must. She is turning out really good and as you said, she is quite a large plane even at 1/72 scale.

Just a suggestion..........have you thought about attaching the wing after paiinting it, making painting and wethering more accessable under the partially obstructed area?

She's coming right along there Rob, nice work!

Yes  mine went together very fast too but I have been sidetracked with other "projects" around the house along with baby sitting my 8 month old granddaughter.

I just shot the red primer a few minutes ago but losts of more air brushing to do but I have to quit cause of grandpa time.

I will post the process once I have things moving along.

Believe me, I understand. But, like you, I'm enjoying the grandpa time. I took the liberty of taking my grandson down to the basement and showing him all the models we'll get to build in a few years. Figured I'd plant the seed early! lol

Actually they had an even bigger flying boat- the Kawanishi H8K 'Emily'. Hasegawa has a kit of her of about the same vintage in 1/72nd too. It's friggin' huge, she's at least as big as a B-17 and much fatter.
