Your build is coming out beautifully....great work on the beach and water. And the plane is looking great. Can't wait too see it when you finish.

I think I am done with all the major cuts, next will be grafting this Frankenstein together.  I have minor trimming, shimming and filling to do here and there but overall I am pleased with the cuts/fits thus far.

I'm making progress on the Raiden. I have the cockpit done. Not much too it actually, typical old Tamiya generic pit. I've closed the fuselage up and now the lower wing is drying. Here is where I stand now.

Steve: Awesome, you're making great progress there! My only real experience with resin like that was the 'water' stuff sold by Woodland Scenics. And it went the same way as yours in bleeding out and running everywhere before it set up.

This morning unfrized the peggy too, to complete the grey bottom parts, just my usual mix of grey 147 and interior green 78 humbrol. more layers to come

Gamera, ya it's a decal. Pretty simple and plain pit, nothing to write home about. If I do another I will get a resin pit, the kit is nice enough otherwise to deserve one.

I completed the beach and painted the sand. I then taped some poster board around the edge to prepare for a resin pour

I made my first resin pour, and now I know what not to do.
First off, I used a few drops of blue water color to try to tint the “water”. It was like mixing water and oil, just slower. I finally was able to mix it by using the paint mixer. The turquoise color I wanted didn’t materialize, more of a light blue. Not bad but not what I was looking for.
Second, I was hoping the resin would harden fast enough so that running a sealer around the poster board would not be necessary. I apparently did not put enough hardener in the mix for it to harden fast enough and I had leaks. In fact, most of it leaked out. Oh well, this may actually work to my advantage

Ok, lessons learned....so far.
1. Seal the edges. I'm now using white glue.
2. Put in more hardener.
3. Put in a few drops of turquoise if you want turquoise.

Also, I painted the Rufe silver, air brushed the Worn Effects and am ready for the exterior colors.

Thanks Steve, cool! I've been 'chipping' the leading edge of prop blades by drybrushing with silver but I'm going to have to give that a try.

If it's not too much trouble I'd love a close-up of the prop. I've tried the Worn Effects produce on different stuff but not props yet, sounds like you've got a really good idea there.

Correct, theres lots of unused parts in this kit shared with "normal" zero: a complete set of landing gears an three blades for propeller.. all will put in the spare box but... the exhaust and the pitot i just forget to setup before 

Deattilo: Neat, looking forward to seeing all the kitbashing you're doing here to bring together the two kits.

Bsyamato: Looking good! In the States we have a term- 'toolbox parts' for when you find extra pieces at the end of project and you throw them in the toolbox, I don't know if there's an Italian term for the same thing or not. Still glad you found the exhausts and pitot tube there. 

So cute the little Claude :) and he seems relly surface detailed!

Good updates about the Ki-45 Freddie

From GB IV update here the works about the rufe:

Put some dirty paint on it  and re-fixed side floats after broke them in the matt final layers  also glued engine, cowling and antenna support

Finally got a little time on my build.  Only accomplished the initial cuts so far.  Wingtips from the Hasegawa Zero are being grafted onto the wings of the Academy AT-6.  I also cut out the tail from the Zero to attach to the Texan.  Next cuts will be for the canopy mounting.

Bruce: Awesome, that's one thing I've never built, a bik... eh missile!  This is going to be very cool. 

Freddie: Glad to hear after all that work you've got the wing seam mostly taken care of. Those landing gear do look like a pain though.

Hi Folks,

I have made a lot of progress on the Ki-45.  I got the wings together, which proved to be a lot less bothersome than the "FUN" I had with the fuselage!  I still need to deal with a very substantial seam on the port wing to fuselage, but I have that filled with pieces of stretched sprue, and plastruct card.  Also, I'll be needing to figure out the main landing gear.  I'm still not sure how I'm going to attack this one, because the Lone Star instruction sheet, (As I've mentioned) is more confusing than the Accurate Miniatures, TBF sheet! (Kidding).

This pic shows how the landing gear basically fit.....I just need to figure out the gear retraction struts....

Here's the seam I was talking about.  You can see the plastruct sticking up.  I'll cut this down, and sand lightly, and then apply a couple light coats of Mr. Surfacer, which will fill and holes and cracks that are left over.

That's all for now folks, I think I may be able to get paint on her soon, so I'll post pictures as the progress permits.
