Wow Gamera, that looks like a really nice kit. I'm looking forward to that one.

Brian, the cruiser does look pretty sick. All the PE is great and really tests one's patience. Looking forward to seeing that one also.

This is my kit.

I opened it up and checked it out. It is one of Tamiya's older kits so the interior detail is light and the parts count is not too high. SO, that being said it should build up fairly quickly. I just have 7, yes 7 kits going at once, so progress may lag a bit for them all. Tongue TiedYes

Ok lol, it's just that my eyes pop out when I see that much PE. I know what you mean about not using all of it, sometimes I use the plastic parts on the kit and leave the replacement PE on the fret.

Epic is a strong word for my builds. I'm sure I won't use all the PE since this will only be my third build using the stuff.

Wow Brian, she's gonna be epic! All the PE makes my head ache and either you have really good eyesight or an excellent optivisor to build those teeny-tiny AA guns. Bow Down

PS: Took the *NEW* off the thread title since this is the current GB now.

Just kicking this back to the top. Almost there now depending on what time zone you're in.

Think I'm going to wait here till the 1/32nd Zero I've ordered from HobbyLink Japan gets here, it's in my private warehouse, just waiting for them to get one item to ship the whole shebang:

Very cool guys! Funny when watching 'Tora, Tora, Tora', 'Midway' and other movies like that I never really noticed the differences as much as I do staring at the photos here.

That sounds really cool, I've seen a few M48, M60s etc kits modified to represent the 'German' tanks in movies like Patton, Battle of the Bulge etc but never any of the modified 'Zeros' and other assorted 'Japanese' planes.

I did a “Zero” several years back (OK, maybe more than several) using Testor’s AT-6 as a base and Starfix’s Zero for donor parts.  It came out okay but I know I can do much better now, especially with better kits.  When AZ Models released their 1/72 BT-13 I scooped up couple specifically to kit bash and convert them to Hollywood’s version of the Kate and Val.  With those in hand, I figured I might as well make another go at the Zero.  I think it will be the easiest of the bunch, which is why I want to start with the Zero.

You know, I'd never even thought about that! It doesn't fit in the strictest interpretion of the rules but I think I said before I'd rather have this GB motivate people to actually build stuff so yeah- it's fine, it's kosher, it's good!

Cool beans!  The kit has been pulled from the stash.  It is Academy's 1/72 AT-6 as the base, Hasegawa's 1/72 A6M5 for donor parts and Print Scale decals for markings.  I also have a little PE to place here and there as/if patience allows.

Depending on how this build progresses I also have an AT-6 Kate and BT-13 Val lined up in the stash.  The whole trio of Hollywood Japanese airpower.

Would a “Hollywood Zero” qualify for this GB?  I have a 1/72 AT-6 in the stash I plan to convert into a Zero.  The representation of Japanese airpower many of us saw in movies and television shows such as Tora, Tora, Tora, Midway, Black Sheep Squadron and many more was/is the “Hollywood Zero.”  Not to mention it is also the (pseudo-) Zero we are most likely to see at an airshow.

If it fits within the left and right lateral limits of the GB I would like to jump in with a 1/72 AT-6/SNJ Zero.

We're almost there now, down side is I have to finally decide on something!

Sorry I didn't get to you guys before now, I had a couple days off and have been trying to step away from the PC for a little while.

Wrinkledm: TBA

I have a Sweet Claude about 20% started so I will finish that up for the group build and by January will decide on what other 1/48 Nihon subject to build. I have so many to choose from.  I keep looking at my stash and the honey doo list and then start crying. :(

Brian: If you want to do a little work I suppose it's ok but kinda the idea is everyone to build at same time and hang out together. So it'd be great if you could wait for three weeks Big Smile

oh boy. I'll be staring at the model and chewing my nails for three weeks, but I can wait. I've never done a group build so I'm excited.

GB's are really cool, lots of camaraderie with the other builders involved.

But, don't get too excited and forget to take pictures of your work in progress! LOL

Don't ask me how I know this... Whistling

I'm in for a 1/700 Maya. Is it ok if I start now, or do I need to wait till January 1 12:00 A.M.? Looking forward to it.

Thanks Terry, it wouldn't be the same without you along for the ride. I finished the Type 3 with the long gun a little bit ago, nice kit no problems at all. I'm going to post her over on the armour forum whenever I get the friggin' base done. I just can't seem to get it the way I want it Bang Head
