BrandonK

so I just have 7, yes 7 kits going at once, so progress may lag a bit for them all. Tongue TiedYes

BK

if I had that many builds going at the same time I'd get confused. I'd probably end up with an IJN Bismarck or a USS Yamato.

Just to get something rolling here a few photos.  I started a bit early on the 1/144 Sweet Claude.  Sweet kits are absolutly fantastic and the fit on the new Claude is no exception.  Also attached is a photo of my inprogress 1/144 LS F-15J and markings (not affiliated with the GB) and my 1/48 Hasegawa Oscar which will also be entered in the GB. I hope to start the Oscar this weekend. I'm currently working on a crap ton of nearly finished models and hoped to get several of them close to completion before starting a new kit.  D

I would look to participate in this group build, but all I see are military aircraft. Since I am a big fan of commercial aviation I'd like to enter my 1:72 Airbus A320-200 in the livery of Japan's All Nippon Airways. If commercial aviation isn't allowed I'll switch to a military aircraft.

Best regards,

Hi Gamera,

Could I make a late change please ? I want to drop my Shiden from this GB and build a 1/72 Hasegawa FW 190A-5 in Japanese markings.

Regards

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Of course I see this, AFTER I posted in "Part IV" about crossing over to here!  LOL!

Count me in with continuing with my Nichimo, Ki-45 build, with the idea of adding another project as this one gets closer to being completed.

Best Regards

narrowed my choices but still undecided. it will be a JGSDF vehicle a 1/72 or a 1/35 or one of each.

right now it's a PATRIOT, 8X8 RECON, TYPE 87 6X6 RECON and/or humanitarian LAV 4x4.

Ok...

Jeff: Put you down with the Tamiya Zero

WrinkledM: Wow, that is tiny, I'd seen the boxes of Sweet kits and heard how good they are but it didn't hit how small a 1/144th fighter is till I saw your photos. I just put down the Oscar for you. I love those F-15 decals, I've been eyeing them for awhile but already picked up a few Japanese F-15 sets so I really didn't need another!

Tony: Swapped you out too.

Freddie: Glad you found us! Guess I should have put in a link to the new GB though, sorry. Anyway you're here now and I put down the Toryu. As to the Ki-100, J6M, and N1K2 they're all cool, I'd lean a little to the Ki-100 since I don't think anyone has built one in the GB yet, or if they did I forgot about it.

Wheeeeee, hope I didn't overlook anyone. If I did yell at me!

And BTW Cliff is fine, or Gamera, I answer to both.

Freddie: Well it's up to you!

SP: Lotsa choices, maybe a F-15 or even one of Wayne's war-wheels would make a dandy modern subject.

Freddie: Well it's up to you!

I am gonna go with the Hasegawa, 1:48 scale, Ki-100.  I have one in the stash, and I have decals, exhaust and wheels for it....  Since you mentioned it, I don't remember seeing one built on any of the group builds either.  Anyhow, thank you for the input, and I will post pictures as the builds progress.

Hey folks,

This is my Nichimo, 1:48 scale, Kawasaki Ki-45 "Toryu".  Actually, this is a carry over from "IV", that I had started last January.

The kit itself isn't bad at all.  Considering it's age, it really is very well engineered.  It has very nice surface detail and the parts fit is pretty very nice as well.  One thing the kit suffers from, is a lack of interior detail, both in the cockpit, and in the wheel wells.  Both are quite Spartan and need help.  I went online and found that Lone Star Models, makes a cockpit, AND wheel well sets that address this issue.  I did a little poking around, and ordered both from their website.  (This was several years back, BTW.)

I have to say that both sets are not that good.  The detail level is okay, but I found the instruction sheet included within, is confusing and difficult to understand.  Drawings are terrible, and the castings are of poor quality.  I was not happy.

The delays with this project came, because not only are the problems I listed already bothersome, but the fit of the castings isn't any better.  There is a lot of sanding, cutting and altering....and guessing of how this all goes together.  However, I felt I commited myself, so onward!

So, here is what I am using, in addition to the Lone Star sets...

Here are the kit's engines, mounted to the Lone Star firewalls, (Resting on a couple of old car model tires).  The engines are actually one of the kit's high points.

The engine and cowl fit onto the Lone Star firewall pretty well, ONCE you can figure out where the engines belong...there are no marks to give you even a hint on that, so there was a boat load of test fitting and hoping I got it right before the CCA glue set.

Here is the Stbd side detail, which goes from the cockpit back through the gunner's position.  The detail on this is pretty good, but the casting is rough.

Once the floor is added, the fit is terrible.  There was a LOT of working, to get this to fit, which I finally was able to do.  There was considerable "potty" talk...

Here's a shot of the port cockpit wall...

Starboard...

The instrument panel and front...

Here's on of the gunner's postition, looking to starboard.

And one more of the gunner's position.

I've made more progress today, and as soon as I think she's dry enough to handle, I'll take a few more.  I got all the seams sealed on the fuselage, and the tail planes attached.  I also got the wing halves together, with the wheel wells inside.  Now I need to afix the landing gear legs and struts, which is what I think is the most confusing part of Lone Star's instruction sheet.  I still am not sure just how this is going to work.

Anyway, I thought I'd share what I have so far.  I am looking to finish this build off, and get onto part two of "V", a Hasegawa Ki-100 "Tony".

Thanks for looking and as always, constructive commets and questions are always welcomed.  Have a great evening!

Regards,

Freddie from LI

Freddie, both the engines and the cockpit look really good to me so far. Looks like you're making good progress despite the poor instructions.

Brian: Don't sweat it, I'm not too good at posting photos myself- I just spent a half-hour fiddling with PhotoBucket to get four photos posted to Bish's '46 GB yesterday.

It's my turn, I will be building the 1/48 Hasegawa A6M2-N Type 2 Rufe OOB.

My thought here is to display it tied to a beach similar to this photo using resin which will be a new technique for me.

This should be a pretty quick build. I will also be trying AK Interactive Worn Effects for the weathering for the first time.

So with that being said, here I go. I just have the office completed.

Heres the base for my Maya. I used to put my ships on finished wood, but lately I just have to put them in water. They just look better that way in my opinion.

Looking forward to how that sand works out for you, Modelcrazy. I'm interesting in seeing how you use the AK Interactive paints. I would like to try it on a few of my ships, but it makes me a little nervous.

Brian, I'm looking forward to it. You will find, very little makes me nervous. I just jump in where angels fear to tread, sometimes with disastrous results Wink

Well, this is where I'm at with the Rufe. It's going together as expected, pretty easily. Low part count, typical Zero, the only tough part will be the painting.

RunwayOneSixRight:  I apologize, somehow I missed your post before, this reversing the post order thing gets me confused sometimes. You're fine, I never said all military- in fact I'd love to see someone build a Toyoda, Nissan or other car here. I'll put down your airliner when I get a little more time here, either at lunch or this evening. Again, sorry I totally missed your post.

Oh, boy, Cliff! You open a can of worms! LOL!

I had planned to build a 1/48 Zero, or George, or Oscar, but, you led me to the light!

Put me down for a 1/12 Tamiya Yamaha YZR-M1. The bike that took Valentino Rossi to the 2009 MotoGP championship.

Here is the box art:

I've been wanting to dig into this model since I got it, so thanks for the inspiration!

Steve, my friend, that is not a motorcycle. It is a 250HP, 300LBS missle with the most sophisticated guidence system ever created, Valentino Rossi! LOL!

Needless to say I was a big fan when I was following MotoGP! I'm glad Gamera mentioned the Toyota and Nissan cars otherwise I would not have been thinking of building a bike! Glad you like it Steve!

Hi Folks,

I have made a lot of progress on the Ki-45.  I got the wings together, which proved to be a lot less bothersome than the "FUN" I had with the fuselage!  I still need to deal with a very substantial seam on the port wing to fuselage, but I have that filled with pieces of stretched sprue, and plastruct card.  Also, I'll be needing to figure out the main landing gear.  I'm still not sure how I'm going to attack this one, because the Lone Star instruction sheet, (As I've mentioned) is more confusing than the Accurate Miniatures, TBF sheet! (Kidding).

This pic shows how the landing gear basically fit.....I just need to figure out the gear retraction struts....

Here's the seam I was talking about.  You can see the plastruct sticking up.  I'll cut this down, and sand lightly, and then apply a couple light coats of Mr. Surfacer, which will fill and holes and cracks that are left over.

That's all for now folks, I think I may be able to get paint on her soon, so I'll post pictures as the progress permits.

Thanks for looking, and any questions or comments, let me know!

Regards,

Freddie from LI

Bruce: Awesome, that's one thing I've never built, a bik... eh missile!  This is going to be very cool.

Freddie: Glad to hear after all that work you've got the wing seam mostly taken care of. Those landing gear do look like a pain though.
