Brian,

I have to agree with Cliff, the wake looks perfect! Your Maya is coming along great! Keep the pics coming!

Yes, I brushed it on the prop with good results.

Here's a few pictures of how this build is progressing.  I finally managed to figure out the landing gear issues and currently to model is sitting in the rack, drying.

I have the engines, cowlings and seams finally finished.  I sealed up the oblique gun ports on top of the fuselage, as this aircraft I am modeling did not carry them.

Things are looking good to maybe get paint on her this weekend.  I will just need to get some masking done, and I'm ready to go.  Thank you for looking at my post, and I'll be posting more with the wheel wells and the landing gear attached....

Regards,

Freddie from LI

Hey Freddie, despite the issues you've had she's coming along fine now! Yes

Thanks Gamera, it's been a tough one, but I'll get it done.  I also got the cockpit done on the Ki-100.  I'll post pictures when I can.

I haven't progressed on the Rufe much, HL is out of the resin and I'm waiting for them to restock.

Hey Steve, hopefully they'll have some more soon. Guess it does give everything a good long chance to totally and completly dry and set up.

BTW: Got an email from HLJ last night, my big Zero is on it's way! Hurray for late Christmas presents! Gift

I bought some more resin, mixed and poured the next layer. Once this is dry, I pour the last layer and form the waves….hopefully.

Here’s where I’m at on the Rufe. I poured just a little resin with a lot of hardener to make the waves, so here it is. Right now I’m going over the whole thing with cotton for the whitecaps and high gloss acrylic varnish. I still want to add more coats of varnish before the water is done.

Steve,

That looks fantastic! Where have you been getting the resin for the water? I really need to try this technique!

Bruce,

I got it from Hobby Lobby. It's "Castin Craft Clear Polyester Resin" with the hardener.

I tried the "Amazing Putty Casting Resin" for one of the levels because HL was out of stock of the Castin Craft, but hated it. It comes on two equal parts so you can't control the hardening time. In fact, there are still some areas that are tacky and I'm not sure when/if they will harden. I suppose eventually it will, but I want to try to sell the build or give it to the museum and don’t know how long I'll have to wait.

Thanks, Steve! I'll have to get some, then do some trial and error on some test pieces.

The Polyester Resin stinks something terrible, so you may want to do it outside. My wife is still b#@$%in at me, and I had windows open and an exhaust fan going. Kinda like Bondo smell.

Yeah, I was off yesterday and my wife worked. I thought I had evacuated the stink....until she came home. I got an earful.

Oh what the heck, I'll jump in. Haven't decided if I'm doing the i15/46 or i9/Ro35 or even both sets. Bought them as a set when I ordered the HMAS Perth Which finally came in the mail today.

I've done two others so please put me in this one with a 1/72 Hasegawa Jake.

Here's a few more pics of the Maya. I got a few hours to work on them this evening. Some of the AA guns aren't painted yet. This thing has a ton of parts!

The water is made with a product I got from Michaels called celluclay. Mix with  water and smear it up to the ship, which I have already glued, like peanut butter with a kitchen knife, don't tell the wife. Then I just brush paint everything. A mix of blue and green for the water and white for the wake. Lastly I use my finger to put some acrylic gel medium for the shine. It's so easy and it looks ok too.

JayW: I went ahead and put you down as TBA, both of those along with Perth are very cool, I'd love to see either of them come together.

Plasticjunkie: Sounds good! Just put you down.

Brian: I've used Celluclay for groundwork before but I didn't know it made such fantastic looking water! And nice work on Maya too, very sleek looking cruiser.

My Zero got here from HobbyLink Japan! I pulled open the box and whoa, one incredible kit, the instruction manual is over thirty pages! Not sure when I'll get moving on her, I'm hoping to get some other GB stuff finished first.

I hadn't seen the two-seat trainer Zero before and it seems sorta rare so I went ahead and ordered it too. No idea when I'll get to it.

Tamiya's 1/32 offerings are very impressive.

Cliff,

I haven't seen very many 1/32 Zero's being built lately. Looking forward to see the WIP pictures. Are you planning any AM parts for this build?

Thanks guys!

Bruce: Nope, not sure the kit needs any AM parts: incredible detail in the cockpit, a small PE fret for extra detail, metal parts for the gun barrels and pitot tube, hey they even throw in canopy masks! It's expensive but you don't really have to buy anything else! I'm not a big fan of Tamiya decals so I might end up replacing those though.

A guy on Facebook did send me a link to an article on J-Aircraft on correcting a few issues here and there which I'll probably be following.

BTW: Toshi posted his WiP over on the aircraft forum which tempted me into buying mine. I want to get some other stuff on the bench done first but heck this thing will probably tempt me into starting on her anyway. Devil

Hello JGB v. I am a newbie. New to FSM and a very inexperienced modeller. I am going to build a Ki27 Nate. 1:48 and probably Hasegawa. I will get some aftermarket bits too. I am traveling to China next week and plan to visit a couple hobby stores. I'll post some pics in a week or two. When I get back in mid Feb I will start the WIP pics...

Many Bothans died to bring us this information... I wish it had been Ewoks... but no... it was Bothans...
