Ok, with about 9 different models all in various stages of construction I finally got back to my Japanese GB models. The Claude has been getting a bit of lite sanding to fix a few scratches and more primer. I finally broke the box on the Oscar.  So far I'm impressed with the fit / design of this Hasegawa kit. I cranked out the cockpit area in no time. I tried something different and that was to use colored prismacolor pencils for all the shading / color, etc.. in the cockpit. The only paint is the overall green and the brushed grimy black on the black boxes.   :)  It looks a bit clunky in the photos but when buttoned up its pretty decent given the steep angle of view.

D - one of the coolest things for me is, that each phase of every model, you could choose to do it any of several different ways, different materials, techniques etc. i think changing it up and trying new stuff or scratchbuilding is a lot of fun.

The ip turned out great! You can see the dials perfectly! Great job! I have a set of the prismacolor pencils too. I'm just about to use them in cockpit for the first time. At least I know they do work good!

Thx, The decal took a bunch of extra Micro-sol but it finally sat down. The pencils look good to the eye even with my high powered glasses, but the photo really accentuates the grainy nature of the pencils over paint.  

Wrinkledm: Looks good! But as you said the cockpit opening is so small you won't see much of it.... 

I've got a Prismacolor silver pencil I use a great deal, gives me more control than even a small drybrushing brush, I'll have to look into using some of the other colours too. Thanks for the tip Sibz. 

BTW: It's Cliff or Gamera or whatever, no big deal. 

Looks good so far, Wrinkled. I thought 700 scale PE looked hard, but those decals.... Wow. Can't wait to see how she comes along.

Ack, that blows Steve! I think you said before the Amazing Clear Cast was still tacky, did it just never dry? Did you use the lacquer thinner to melt it off? Sounds like a royal PitA in any case. 

Lacquer thinner and scrapping with an xacto. It isn't too bad, and looking at it this morning, I removed most of it. The tough part was working around the Rufe without damaging the floats or paint. 

Ah ok, I can imagine. I was wondering how you kept the lacquer thinner from burning the paint off your Rufe, I figured you had to be super careful there. 

It's getting closer to finished. The more I do of phototetch, the less I know what I'm doing. 

Looks good to me Brian, I think I've said before the PE is one of the major reasons I'm too much a wuss to build ship models.

Thanks Gamera. the PE for this kit is overdone sometimes. The kit turrets are well done with nice details, but the PE contains a skin that goes around the turret. It would seem to me to be overscale. Im not sure if I'll use it.

All bought at the second hand Leonardo model shops except for the snowspeeder (1710 yen!! about $17US)

Have been enjoying the builds, MC your usual great finish, and great work on the surf.

Brian, Maya is looking really good, great work with the model and its setting too.

If I get through the Aces, Mustang and 1946 group builds in time, I will be back to do my first ship model for decades...

Joshiah: Heck you're more than welcome. I think I said before I'm more interested in people getting stuff built and out of the stash. Finishing stalled projects is even better, I've got dozens of stuff I need to finish up. Can you refresh me on the company and scale and I'll put you down.

LA: Whoa, you lucky dog!!! I'm a little embaressed to be running this GB and I've never been to Japan. Just looking at the awesome stuff on HLJ that never makes it to the US I can't imagine the amazing stuff over there. I could make an entire vacation/holiday out of just prowling around hobby shops there!

Cockpit looks really good there, I really like how the instrument panel came out.

Going to re-enroll you on the roster now.

Sometimes a decal is enough and it's not like you'll be able to see much of it down inside there.

Exactly, I've notice lately I've been spending less and less time on the cockpit because I know it won't be seen by anybody, especially since they hang from my ceiling. 

It was nice outside so I decided to airbrush it. Tonight I put pretty much everything else that is going to go on the plane minus pilot, canopy, prop, and fuel tank (I think that's all). Then a few touch up paintings and it'll be ready for decal and slight weathering. 

Also painted the canopy tonight, i was nice and patiently impatient (didnt want to spend the gazillion of hours masking) so I use a piece of stretch sprue to dip in the paint lid and then just lay on the canopy.  I thought it looked real good...until I took the picture with light shing through...yikes haha.

Looks like you're on a tear there! Looks good!

I know what you mean about the canopy though, I've tried hand painting the things with the thin brush I use on figures and it always ends up looking that way no matter how gingerly I paint them.

LOL that looks like one of my canopies!!! I will usually hand paint with acrylic and go back with a toothpick and scrape of where I went outside the lines. I can do it with enamel but it’s not easy.
