hogfanfs you could always prime and paint the base a ground color, "paint" it with white glue and add turf. i have done this and drilled some holes and added some tall grass.

Gamera

That looks cool, Bruce. First time I think I've seen one of the Pegasus kits mocked up, I may have to try one myself.

Wayne has a good idea there with the base, though maybe for the river bank there you might paint it tan, spread some white glue on it and cover it with sand?

I think you guys are reading my mind! That is exactly what I have in mind. I want the base to have a texture to it. Being that it is on a beach, sand would be most appropriate. I do like the supplied dead log, but it will need a little sprucing up too.

@hogfanfs:

Wow, that Spinosaur has beautiful molding! I always assumed Pegasus' stuff was crappy, in the same category as Lindberg.

I guess not! I hope people don't mind if I build a Pegasus dino too. Again, don't put me down for it yet, but it looks like a nice refreshing build.

Moff,

I'm very impressed with this kit. It still needs a little clean-up of the seems. And some filler where the body parts have been attached. But overall, this will be quite easy to accomplish.

These type of kits are for modelers who enjoy the painting part of modeling. And that's where all the builds will stand apart in this GB. I'm all for you getting a Pegasus kit, and I hope you do.

Terry,

Yes, I used CA glue to adhere the pieces. I will use Perfect Plastic putty as a filler. This way I can wipe away the access with (hopefully) no sanding. This is the tutorial I've been using for information: Here   It's been very helpful, hope it helps you too.

I've just got some of that perfect plastic putty for my Arado. Had not herad of it before, its really nice to work with. I am thinking i might ditch my Squadron filler for it.

Thanks Bruce that would be my first choice too. I've used it for almost everything and never once had an issue, but with vinyl I was wondering about it adhering. I'm all about no sanding, this putty is a life saver. I've wrecked more parts by sanding either to much or to far. I think the detail on these Pegasus kits are second to none, never seen anything like it.

Thanks guys

I did a web search yesterday for dino kits and wow there's some nice injection molded stuff out there now. Those Pegasus kits do look good!

Then again I kept bumping into these Lindberg kits with puffy bloated dinos that seem to either have injected way too much Botox or else stumbled face first into a giant beehive. Even old kits I grew up on though not scientifically accurate by what we know today still looked way better than these!

Just found this on Squadron's website: triceratops

$19.99 for the Diorama kit!

Edit: This price is only good for today.

Wow, that's more than half-off! Good catch there Bruce, if I didn't already have so much stuff in the stash I'd take them up on that offer.

I guess Lindberg kits have their uses. Still even as a kid back in the '80s I went for Monogram kits, even back then I really didn't like the Lindberg ones very much.

If those were the only kits out there I would seriously consider a different hobby. It's just too much of too much, theres so many great kits these days and several on the lower end that are still far superior to that company. Is that a dinosaur or a sausage?

Anyway, I stopped in at one of my only and favorite Hobby Shops anywhere in my area and they had a large section of Dino kits from low to high dollars, but for the money anybody wanting to jump in with a good kit at reasonable pricing, buy Tamiya. You can get the Dino as a stand alone or with a pre-made Diorama. Buying a stand alone piece offers unlimited Dio opportunities from small to large. My friend at the Model Cave says theres a lot of people that build and paint Dino's thats why he keeps a nice selection, so next time I'm there I'll take a couple pics of the different manufacturers and offerings. Maybe somebody will see some things we haven't talked about and hard to find online.

When I saw the Lindberg He-111 at my LHS for the first time, I almost burst out laughing. I really feel bad for them...

I have to say though that Lindberg did send us a big box of kits for the kid's 'Make and Take' at our local IPMS show last year, in fact they've several times sent us stuff in support. I'd like to buy their stuff in support but not to bad mouth them it's just not us to current standards.

Which is why I feel bad for them. I've often got the impression that they're nice people, but their kits are just not up to snuff. Unfortunately, that seems to be the way the world works. Speaking of which, I have a really crazy and annoying story about Dragon...I'll probably make a thread about it soon.

Hey, guys ( and gals!) I found a webstore which sells resin dinosaurs. These look to be very detailed and well made. Unfortunately, the prices refect how well they are made. Granted, I have not purchased from this store, so, I don't have first hand information. But, I am somewhat considering maybe something small! lol

Anyway, I figured I'd post their website so you can at least take a look and deside for yourselves. Dans Dinosuars

I've always thought these were awesome but they are expensive.

I have a resin Albertosaur somewhere I'd like to build for this but no idea where he got to.

Steve,

Some are built and painted, however, I noticed many that were un-finished. Some of the discriptions will tell you the model will ship with X amout of parts. Also, they have directions on where you can send the model to be professionally built and painted.

Steve,

This is from the FAQ page:

Q: Do you offer model kits or just finished models?
A: We carry both finished models and model kits for the seasoned dinosaur enthusiast.  These pieces are for the mature collector, and their level of detail reflects their higher price range.  Additionally, if you're interested in having a model finished for you, there are a number of artists willing to help for an additional fee.  To inquire about buildup services, simply contact (e-mail address at top of page): dan@dansdinosaurs.com

Thanks for that Bruce. There are several that look fantastic, as well as the price, but a few that I can afford...$25 and under. I may try to get one.

Has anyone checked out the David Krentz stuff on Dan's Dinosaurs? They're pretty cheap. Though I'd hate to buy one and then discover that it's actually 1/144 scale...

...wait, never mind, it tells the scale right there...1/72 and 1/40.
