2016 OTS (1/72) SMALL IS BIG

Duke, thats some really nice work there. I like the look of the SS-100, i have decided to use that kit for my Do 24.

It seems these new Airfix kits are either fantastic or just a rebox of their old flash ridden misfitting blue bombs. I built their P-40B which was and nice kit, but the Dauntless on the other hand, is turning out to be a pill and I won't be moving forward with it.

 

You do have to be careful, there is no indication on the box if its new or not. Unlike some otehr numbers, the kit nubers do not run in sequence, so that is no help. I usually chck Hannants as they do indicate that the kit is a new too for the Airfix ones.

I'm loving the work in this GB. Wayne could you put me in for a Revell Hawker Hunter FGA 9 that I will convert to a GA 11.

I also managed to shoot some HU 65 on the bottom, I will be doing the BoB scheme.

Ah, so, the Dauntless is relegated to the Naughty Box ! Upon first inspection I was too thinking of drilling out those holes, but, if it's a pain in the butt, maybe I'll abstain. Meh, I've got lots ahead of this one planned, so, maybe not get to it for some time anyway.

Well, that sux. I have the Dauntless in my stash...it's that bad? I know it's a rebox of the old stuff and it is very basic, but, I guess the fit is nasty??

Duke thats a lot of building for a 1/72, looks great. One question, have you ever used that masking liquid for clear parts? I dont build aircraft so theres little need for it but I was just wondering.

Thanks Terry! My apologies for taking so long to post here; apparently I'm not getting my E-mail notices when someone replies here.. Yes, I have used that liquid mask for clear parts on my aircraft as well. The same mask is on the windows of the Gigant. It works great!

Now to get caught up.

Wayne, that is a magnificent looking Japanese vehicle. I envy you getting one. It seems that I cannot find any of those anywhere. Looks fantastic!

Steve, that is an outstanding job on that B-47! I am stunned at the quality metal finish. I wish mine could look that good!

Donanton, welcome aboard! I built that same kit decades ago. Have fun! I'm looking forward to seeing it done.

After all this time, I finally can post some progress here for this Group Build. I've been neglecting this for too long. It's time to move these models along.

The first one is the Mitraellieurwagen. I had 30 of these tiny little handholds to glue to one side of the lifting cradle:



Here they are all installed on the side of this thing:



Later I added the rest of the final parts to this so I can get the painting completed. Here it is all ready for paint:





Just for fun, I pulled down my completed V-2 Rocket to see how it looks on this trailer:



That's pretty cool, if I do say so myself!

With that part done, I assembled all the final parts on the SS-100 Gigant; all except for the wheels. I now need to finish spraying paint on this now too:

Yep, thr GB is going on till the end of the year. Welcome aboard. 

If this is still going on, I'd like to enter my Stug3G.

Lets see if I can remember to post everything in this thread and it's own thread.  I'm gonna put tank riders on it.  I hope to put it on a 3" wooden base portraying the stug driving through a wheat field.  The stug3g will have "wheat" secured to the tank to camoflouge it.

I've heard that Typhoon kit is pretty sweet, dang it about the canopy though. I'm looking forward to the OTS B17 later this year. 

I have had some of the old crummy airfix stuff that was just re-boxed in the red boxes....this ticks me off!

Now I read a few reviews before buying any kits :-)

This 110 is one of the earlier "new tool" airfix models with the very heavy pannel detail, I have built a few of the newere new tool stuff like the DH82, Vampire and more - they are good, detail is much finer and the decals are fantastic.

I have the Airfix 1/24 Typhoon and hope it is like the nice new tool stuff.....just a pitty the canopy is cracked and Airfix does not have stock to replace it :-(

Well guys, I have almost lost interest in this little 110, the effort almost doesnt seem woth the model that I can make of it, but I will beat it into submition...

Not really allot to report on, just filling and sanding - my least fav job.

Thanks Steve....Ok, so, got the Beaufighter done over this weekend. VERY enjoyable Airfix build. Great kit, highly recommend to all. My initial plan was to do a RCAF 404 Sqn bird BUT as those Hannants decals fell apart, I had to rethink it and went with the kit's No.144 sqn, RAF Banff, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Oct 44. 

the RAF bird has black and white invasion stripes on the fuselage, so, I had to start with a white base.

For the first time in a long time, I actually have NO GB kit waiting in the wings. Wierd for me. I usually have a few GB's on the go. I will have to scour the site and see if anything perks my interest for what I have in my small stash. May do a ship next. Anyway, thanks for looking and I'll look in on this GB's progress. I'll take a badge if I may and say good luck to all in this build.

I calling the B47 done. It was a pretty simple kit for its size. The raised details were difficult to work with and I tried to replace any that were knocked off by seam fulling.

Anyway, here is, not supper happy with it and it will be donated to my 3-year-old and 1-year-old grandson’s ceiling. That should be a sight for them to look at night.

Theuns...yeah, that 110 is quite basic. I think it's because it was early in Airfix's new tooling line. I did it and wasn't stoked about it but it did go together well. The later stuff, like the 111 proved that Airfix is a major player in sophistication. Sad that we may lose this company.

I got a bit done this weekend despite the frigid temperatures and NON spring we are having in Ottawa, Ontario atm....

Preshaded the underside and then a coat of Sky:

As I am using Valejo, I coated the upper with the Sky as well as a primer:

I'm a bit concerned about using 'extra dark sea grey' but we'll see. I'll try that tomorrow. It's too dark to preshade, so, I'll have to rely on weathering with post-shading. MTF.

Well folks, there is not really a whole lot to say abouth this airfix BF 110.

The cockpit detail is pretty spartan and the dihedral angle is TOTALLY wrong so I am fixing it as I go allong.

Here is the basic fuse colsed up and the wing bottom glued on after I sanded the wingroot area to fix the problem.

I did not go ao any great trouble with detailing the cockpit as the canopy will hide most of it anyway.

So far I am a tad dissapointed with this kit , but it is not the worst I have had LOL

I think we all do that suomi, its all part of our drive to improve.

suomi, i do like the look of that. Interesting looking subject and a real nice job on the scheme, and that home made 3 looks really well done.
