Hey Johan, sorry to say, this thread has been dead for awhile. I'm also building a Trump Hind in the Cold War GB. You might try there.

I just got the Trumpeter Hind-E the other day. It is just as good as everyone here has made it out to be. I plan on starting it after the holidays. I'll keep everyone posted.

Higg, any progress on your A model? I have been following it all along and it looks awesome. May have to try one myself, or convert the 1/32 Monogram Puma into a Red Dawn Hind-A vismod.

I try not to be too critical, it's sometiumes one of those things that comes out, you know, part of my nature. It's a cool badge, especially the star and the helicopter.

Awood23- spelling is good but you used the wrong gender for 'my friend' - should be moy drug, the masculine form.

t3488g, thanks for the email asking me about my status..
My status has always been, as I told you from the beginning, a big fat MAYBE! Alas, too many armor projects and other commitments have kept me away from my 1/35 Trumpeter Hind.
I have been visiting this GB thread from time to time, and have to congratulate all those who have been working hard on their projects. Lots of great stuff here.
Love those Hind-A's!

Kielers, while I can understand your thinking, I wouldn't be so concerned about the artistic use of Cyrillic in the GB logo. You should see what the rest of the world does with Japanese! Or what the Japanese do with English! Wink [;)]

Spasiba for defending my badge, guys. You got the spirit of it, i.e. I used cyrillic look-alike characters (BTW the set is called Soviet) to give it a russian feel, not pretending to wirite in correct russian.

Awood23 thanks again for your compliments. Actually I'd like to make a diorama placed in Afghanistan during the 80's, but beeing the helicopter so big the dio would become huge!

I'm having trouble finding out the color of the rocket pods. On the pics I found they look either light grey (almost white) or bare metal. Does anybody of you guys have better reference?
I'm going to use the 9-A-669 Grenade launcher (with the cannons instead of the launcher), theUB-32A-24 and the AT-6.

Kielers, you should know that using what appears to be cyrillic letters for the group badge is there only for appearance. I would say that more than 90% of the users of this forum speak english as a first language and I would go further to say that very few of them speak russian much less could read cyrillic. (not to offend those who can do both of the above) If it was made using true cyrillic letters or even the Russian name of the Hind Many of us would be left scratching out heads and looking like Homer Simpson. :)
In the mean time, (Im gonna butcher the spelling of this....) Dosvidanyia mine druga

Avus, as always you build is coming along GREAT. That thing looks ready to drop off troops in Kabul then do some serious evasive flying to avoid hand held Stingers :)

Hind is the NATO code name for the helo not russian, i'm pretty sure the russians hate it being called the hind too, we had a discussion about this earlier i'm pretty sure. i understand that many of the letters in english are not in russian, but if it was in russian most of us wouldn't be able to understand it.

i think i am going to have to send some e-mails out to find out what happened to some of the participants and if they will be coming back, or if they have deserted the motherland. Tongue [:P]

Hello All,
I'm not a part of the group and have yet to build a helo, though I'd like to. I'm focusing on WWII armor and aircraft, I love that stuff, Axis and Allie powers. Unfortunately there are very few helos from that era.

As modellers we strive to achieve the greatest accuracy we can in our builds. So as a Russian speaker I have to critique your "Hind Group Build 2004" symbol/icon because it's not very accurate. I realize and understand your attempt to present a Russian/Soviet feel with use of some cyrillic letters. First in HIND, there is no H in the Russian cyrillic alphabet or an i for that matter, there is no letter to make the H sound, they don't use it. The closest thing to it is the cyrillic X, which doesn't sound like an X but doesn't sound like an H either. The N in Hind is a P in cyrillic and a cyrillic D looks like our small g. Next in GROUP, a cyrillic G looks a little like our small r. The backwards R is not an R in cyrillic, it makes a ya sound and means I or me, but is also used in many words but does not change its sound. An R in cyrillic looks like our Pp, upper and lower case (incidentally cyrillic has no upper and lower case in typed format - only in hand written form). The U in GROUP makes the E sound in cyrillic. Finally in BUILD, the small b in cyrillic is only a soft sign that has no pronnunciation, it only gives the preceeding letter a softer sound, therefore no Russian words can begin with this letter. Again the U is an E in cyrillic, there is no i, a cyrillic L looks like an upside down V and a cyrillic D looks like our g. But the numbers in '2004' are good.

So, if created your group build icon using the correct cyrillic letters, no one would be able to read it, unless they could speak Russian.

Hope I'm not being too critical, I just get a little defensive in the use of the Russian language and the cyrillic alphabet.

The Hinds built so far look great. If I ever get out of the WWII stuff I would like to build the large scalle Hind, a 1/35 Blackhawk, and a 1/35 Apache if anyone ever produces the kit. The 1/35 scale helos would be great in a modern armor diorama.

Duke, Awood23, Higg thanks for your kind words!

These days I'll be refreshing the paint of the house (with my 5/0 brush!) so I won't be able to make any progress on the helo nor will I be able to post updates.
See you in two weeks (I hope)!

Wow, to all of you fellas. I'm at a "tactical pause" right now on my 1:35 Hind A conversion. Will start up in a few weeks. Living vicariously through all of you! Great panel lines Avus, and it looks like you put in that little window above the Hind A pilot side, Duke Maddog! Again, I haven't made any progress since my last Hind A 1:35 cockpit shots. So, I get the big "suck" award!

I get the occassional e-mail from "Azie" who is building a huge wood Hind A. He also has done a 1:35 Hind A conversion cockpit and canopy nose section. He was going to lay it in resin and make some copies when I last heard from him. If any updates, or he's willing to make some Hind A nose/canopy/cockpit copies for a little recompense, I'll drop a line.

Here's to MIL OKB!

Avus,

add some rotors, landing gears, weapons, and unmask the windows and that thing looks ready to take off and starting blowing up paintbottles on your workbench. Looking very realistic.

Thanks Awood23.
Looks very good to me Duke. I used Microscale's Sol for the first time on the decals for this helo. I'm surprised with the result no silvering and the decals adapted to very irregular surfaces.

Here is another update: finished weathering and coated it with a matt varnish.

Yeah! I love that movie "Red Dawn"! I remember how I felt coming out of the theater afterwards. It was a feeling like no other; watching us fight a communist presence on our own soil. Man what a movie! Black Eye [B)]

In fact, it was that movie that made me want to get my first Hind A model. I had to wait, but it was worth it! Big Smile [:D]

Avus, that buld is coming alolng great! I cant wait to see the finished results.

Duke, looks great too. Ive always like the A models canopy more than the more common bubble type of the later models. Course I could be strongly influenced by the "Red Dawn" Movie :)

Well, as promised, here is a pic of my completed Libyan Mi 24 Hind A. I apologize for them being so late and also of such poor quality. Along with several work and family issues I had to deal with, I was trying to get a decent enough picture to post! Well,it isn't my usual standardof picture, but here is my Hind A for your perusal:

As you can see, the cheap decals silvered on me, despite the application of Future clearcoat. Still, the added window came out pretty good.

Well, there is my contribution to my first Group Build! I want to thank all who built their Hinds alongside mine, and who shared all their excellent photos and expertise in this endeavor. I feel honored and privileged to have built my Hind in such talented, esteemed and highly regarded company.

Until the next Group Build......Wink [;)]Approve [^]

Mine's finished too! Although not officially a member, I have found that the posts from you guys has been a great help in my model of '0705'.
Now, the question is, do I want to do another one with the new Tiger scheme on it? the tiger clawing its way out of the rear compartment and a proper orange and black tail would look awesome........
Thanks for all the tips and hints, guys.

Thanks t3488g.
I closed the rear landing gear bay door to make it easier painting the helicopter. Once I'm done with the painting I'll open it and install the gear.

More than 50% of our fellow builders are MIA! That's a loss to me.

Avus,
Future is sold in the UK under the brand name 'Johnstons Klear' . It is basically an acryllic floor sealant and is water soluable. You should find it in the household cleaners section of your local supermarket. Hope this helps in your search.

Avus,

I cant find any reference for Italy but this site has alot of info including how to use and such and where to find in other parts of Europe. including Germany.
http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html That should help some. If all else fails and you really want to try this stuff let me know and I'll see what it takes to mail you some from here. From Belgium to Italy it shouldn't be too much
Thanks for the great words on my builds The photo builder on yahoo Ive since stopped using and now use the free web site

Got your point Awood23. Thanks for the help; it didn't come too late, since I'll start spraying tomorrow. I'm afraid that using so many coats of paint will reduce the crispness of the detail. But maye it's just me.
I heard many of you guys talk about this Future, do you have an idea where to find it in Europe? I'd like to give it a try.

BTW I had a look at the other pics and ... you have some impressive planes there! Nice work!

Avus, I may be a little late with this but the purpose of using the Gloss coat, decal, gloss coat, dull coat method is it goes a great way to reduce silvering and hide the transparncy (sp) of the carrier film of the decal. This link should show a pic of a
KC-135 I did long before I knew about using gloss coats.
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/awood23/detail?.dir=dc31&.dnm=dee7.jpg
If you look at the
U.S. AIRFORCE decal you can clearly see the carrier film between the letters because I didnt use any kind of gloss coat or sealer. Hope that gives you an idea of what Im talking about. Im still experimenting with using gloss coats and right now Im trying to airbrush Future with pretty good results. But even in the experimenting stages the results are much better than what I was getting before

Congratulations for your first place Colin!
As I said: can't wait to see some pictures.

Thanks for the hint on the decals. I haven't started applying them, yet, but I was afraid something like that would happen. I was thinking of airbrushing the larger decals, i.e. the red star, the "04" and the danger arrow, instead of using the decals. Haven't made up my mind, yet.
