HELICOPTERS - Mi-24 Hind Group build

no cut off date to join set yet, so you can join. lets make it june 1st. Finish date........ i dunno

Is it too late to join the GB?
And when is the finish date?

I've got a Hasegawa 1/72 Hind A with PE parts I've been putting off for around a year now, and it would be gret to get stuck into it.

I have a handfull of 1/144 Academy and Revell Hinds in the closet... I may join you if I can find a space on my desk between the Concorde, the Puppchen/T-34 dio, the Sherman Ambutank, the Merkava dio, a Panther G, my Starfighter, the Rafale A, the Hawk 127 and that double decker bus I'm scratchbuilding for a customer...!

This GB sounds like fun and it's a nice crowd!

just an up-date! I've stripped all the paint off my old Hind. I use Selleys Liquid Sugar Soap Concentrated - 3x caps to approx 1Litre. And it doesnt matter if its arcylic or enamel. Arcylic disolves in 5 to 30minutes, and oil-based about 1hr - 5hrs (depending on the thickness of the coats). I usually leave the model soaking in a bucket overnite, and magic! I've used this for ages, so I dont use any harmful brake-fluid, degreaser or oven cleaner.

I went hunting for aftermarket 1/48 products at my 4 of my LHS - yes 4! (arent I lucky). Anyway they didnt have any Hind stuff, but I could scam some decals off other sheets. I'm not a big fan of replacing cockpits or PE unless its in 1/32 models and u dont have the canopy closed and no seated pilot.

STOP! Before you start that Hind A, check my pics I posted here of the cockpit. I'll give you some links to some pics on my site. ALL references you read about the cockpit configuration are usually wrong. It's just bad juju that's been out there for years. I'm building a conversion MI-24A 1:35 scale from my Trumpeter D model and I can tell you the config for the A model is gunner up front, and ONE pilot off-set to port side behind the gunner, and that's all, I swear on Comrade Mil's grave. The engineer (if carried) ALWAYS sits in the troop compartment. His area of concern are a bunch of flight boxes sitting on shelves behind the pilot seat in a little "hallway" of sorts.
Anyway, for clarity about the set-up, check my pics of the 1:35 Hind A cockpit I'm scratch building and the links below it (up a coupla posts) but remember I just have a simple grey primer on it right now. If you have any questions about the A model, or interior colors for it, I'll be happy to help. There's alot of crap in the cockpit, and it took me awhile to get it all sorted out.
As far as the colors go, if you stick to legit pics of the MI-24/35 (export) you can't go wrong. Most are SLIGHT variations on Model Master Soviet Interior Blue/Green #2135 for all cockpit panels and black for cockpit switch panels and dash. A little bit more blue, a little bit more green tends to be the difference. It doesn't seem to be standardized, as the colors change after overhaul, fade, or a vodka drunk Russian paint technician.

I'd say that's a pretty serious design flaw! Well, I'll just have to take it easy when I'm pulling out of dives!

Hind A for quite a while. One of the references I have ( 4+ Publications) says the
Hind had a three seat configuration in the cockpit (WSO upfront with pilot and
engineer seated side by side in rear. It states that the engineer was repositioned with the newly designed cockpit introduced on the D model. Browsing the group build thread I find pictures of what appears to be an A cockpit with what appears to be a single seat in the aft position. HELP!!!
A second point of confusion concerns cockpit colors. It appears that the base color for the cockpit could vary from a very light grey to nearly black. I can't find any clear color guide other than the fact that everyone agrees on that "lovely" blue color for the instrument panel and as a backup to the various circuit breaker and auxilliary panels. HELP TWICE!!!

sigh, the hind blades are messed up in real life. did you know that is it goes into a dive and pulls up sharply (or some manouver) the rotors hit the tail!!!!!!

Quick Q for those of you building the 1/35 Hind: If you're going to display it parked, how are you going to droop the rotor blades? And if you're going to display it in flight, how are you going to sweep 'em up? (Forgive me if this has been asked before)

Good to hear! Would have hated for the crash to have been a total loss. Hopefully all those involved in the project (project leader included) have self-medicated and are back on track. :D

During a test flight yesterday afternoon a (1/35) Hind-E had a minor accident. The project leader had cardiac problems seeing all his efforts vaishing in a few seconds, but fortunately the damage was not so bad. After a few reapirs the work started over again.

Whew!!!! I sure hope so, I just about had a heart attack!!! I'm not getting any younger you know!!! I don't have too many "all nighters" left in me!!! That and the fact that I may be illiterate might have helped me take it the wrong way!!!

as for sardawg28 gbs (group builds) can be as broad as small afvs (turned into all afvs) or as specific as panther broup build.

A group of people decide to build a certain "theme", and they kinda help motivate each other through the process until the end date where everyone will post their finsihed pics. For this build we are doing the Mi-24 Hind, and the end date seems to be in July?? Are you guys serious?? Holy crap, I gotta get moving!!!

I'm sort fo new to this...the forum thing. What is a group build and how does it work????

Oh yeah, almost forgot. So in my Hind kit I got yesterday, there was a spare clear parts bag, with a second complete set of all the clear parts. This is a 1/48 Revell of Germany kit...anybody need an extra canopy? Hope to trade...

Got my Hind about 20 minutes ago, so I'm gonna get started as soon as I get home (I'm trapped at work...HELP!!!) in 2 hours. Yay!

I haven't started mine at all. I am thinking of doing a dio with my recently completed BMP-3, but I've never seen pix of them together, nor can I confirm any scenario were the two might even appear in the same scene. Shouldn't let that stop me!

The BRMD-3 sounds like a good idea. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

luke interesting: rebuilding an old kit. Maybe you could find some aftermarket kits to improve it.

I got a BRMD-3 to complete the diorama with the Hind. I don't know if I'll complete the whole dio for the end date (wich we didn't set) but my Hind will be ready!

thanks guys - like I said ere is my Monograms 48th Mil24 'Hind'. I've pulled apart the model and stripped bits of paintwork here'n'there, but havent yet cleaned it up with anything. These are my "before" photo's so you can see what I'm working with; and I'll post some "after" pics of the finished or near-finished model (that is if the Grp Bld end date beats me ). This isnt flash but was done when I was about 12 with no airbrush. This is also the first time I photographed my own models & posted them - dont expect the best - here goes!
