                        Avus, thanks for the technique. I will give it a shot.
                        By the way comrades of the Hind group build, here's where I currently stand on my 1:35 Trumpeter HIND A conversion. Note: Two of the pics were before I installed the glass windows and side mount supports.
                        Lots of work still to be done on the canopy. I installed the side glass panels, just need to do the eyelashes and mold the bulged pilots door glass. The cockpit is not even close to being done. Also have some more sanding and smoothing out to do on the greenhouse canopy. I think I'm on the right track, but I am slowly losing perspective as I stare at this thing for hours on end as I'm building it. I could use some comments. Rake me over the coals if you gotta!

                        Thin lines, small brush: 5/0 brush.
                        I use acrylic colors and thin them a lot with water. Since the lines are already engraved in the plastic, the thin color fills the lines due to the capillar effect.
                        In case I get streaks (nobody's perfect) I dry them with a tissue or when the color is dry I dry-brush the base color to cover the mistake.

                        Avus, how are you etching the thin lines on the cockpit panels? Looks freakin great. My Hind A (Trump 1:35 conversion) is coming along, cutting flat window panels for the greenhouse canopy. Watta bitch! Will post pics tonight.
                        To sum up, how are you etching the thin black lines on the cockpit panels? Eh?

                        Both the Hinds look great. I'm really impressed with the detail in Avus's Hind. Bow [bow] I wish I could say I've made some progress, but with finals week coming up, it's been difficult. I've got a 1/72nd Italeri Hind F sitting at home that I'll dig into later.

                        The blue looks lighter and "bluer" than it actually is.

                        no luck with the figures yet. i'm probaly going to pick up an old Hasegawa kit. dukemaddog was saying they came with pilots and passengers. Does anyone know what varients of hinds used in Kosovo, and what weapons they had on the wing tips? (not the wings where the rockets are) my kit came with gernade launchers it seems. But all the pick i have seen either have nothing because they are parked, or missles.

                        In the lab where I work we have a russian girl. For fun I asked her to translate the decals of my Trupeter's Hind. Some were correct russian words or phrases but others were cyrillic caracters randomly put together to make it look like a russian word!
                        I wonder what the guys over at Trumpeter thought!Angry [:(!]

                        So, how are ya'll's Hinds coming along? I haven't started anything (as usual), but I did pick up ANOTHER Hind the other day: the 1/72 Airfix Hind-A/D. After hearing folks here talking about the A, I got kinda interested in it, and coincidentally ran across the Airfix kit for 600 yen (about $5.50 USD), so I picked it up. I was surprised to see that you can choose to build it either as an A or a D. I thought it was just the A model.
                        I think I may built it as an A straight out of the box (for me, there're really too many problems with the kit to try to detail it up) and focus on the paint job and weathering. I'll pull out all the stops on my 1/35 Trumpeter Hind-E when the time comes.

                        I've also seen a 1/72 Airfix kit for the Hind-D. Does this kit also offer the option to build the A version?

                        I just used Model Masters Soviet Interior Blue/Green. And like J-hulk said, the Trumpeter doesn't give any recomendations for other manufacturer's paints.

                        I painted my cockpit with a color I mixed using Vallejo acrylic paints. I used:
                        962 Flat Blue
                        942 Light Green
                        915 Deep Yellow
                        951 White

                        I mixed 3 parts blue with one part green and one part yellow and then added white until I got the right (to me) color. I made enough of this mixture and put it into an empty bottle so I can use it more times (for corrections etc.).

                        In the next days I'll put some pics on my site, I'll let you know.

                        Howdy, cbrain.
                        The Hasegawa Hind-E sheet calls out Gunze Aqueous and Mr. Color H335 Medium Sea Gray for the cockpit and rear compartment, while the Trumpeter kit only says "Bright Bluish Green" or "Bluish Green," depending on the page. The rear compartment is listed as "Light Gray." Trumpeter does not indicate any brands or numbers. It does list FS numbers for exterior colors, though.
                        Neither of these kits offer any clues as far as mixing interior paints go.

                        I am sorry I can't join this build because I am too buried in other projects. I have been drooling massively over the Trumpeter Hind. I have read only fantastic things about it, especially the crispness of the molding.

                        If anything changes and I happen to pick up the kit, I'll let you know Evil [}:)]

                        I'll keep an eye out for pics of everyone's progress though.

                        I received the Trumpeter Hind and WOW! Trumpeter has got the right idea on how to do large scale kits right. Many of the Trumpeter releases are on par with Tamiya quality and detail, even surpassing it. This is eveident in Tamiya's CONCERN over a drop in retail business. Companies like Trumpeter are releasing kits people want and are doing so with great quality. Tamiya had contacted Steven's International about "what is going on" and that's the response they got. Even the leaders in the business need to be "shaken up" now and again to make them move forward and achieve greater goals. Trumpeters new release of the SAM on the carrier is absolutely fantastic and exceeds any other manufacturers quality. Of course the only knock on Trumpeter is that they produce from a Communist country...............if free market can work in China maybe they might move towards Democracy. Ah, Jeez, sorry about the editorializing, but I still won't buy French kits! Mike

                        Well, I did it! Cool [8D] I got out to my LHS and found two Hind A kits. One was Airfix, the other Hasegawa. I decided to go with the Hasegawa, since the one I built before is from Hasegawa, and I'm more familiar with it. Besides, it was only 50 cents more expensive than the Airfix kit, so I got a deal for the quality! The nice thing is that this Hasegawa kit comes with pilots and four soldiers as part of the kit!                         I've already started the cockpit and I'm going to paint it tomorrow so I can get caught up with some of you. Pics will be taken tomorrow as well, and hopefully posted here for everyone to see. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

                        t3488g maybe you can find some kits by Revell or ESCI. If I rember correctly ESCI used to make soviet soldiers and something like Warsaw Pact PilotsConfused [%-)]. I'm not sure at all of what I just stated. If I find someting I'll let you know.
