Ha! That is so true. :-)

But luckily, doesn't much matter because beyond the paint scheme, I don't think the Cave Angel differs from the standard T-65? I hope?

And even if Revell or Bandai included the markings as decals, I'd still paint 'em on.

Porkbits

Thanks, Gamera!

You know, the Bad Guys' ships are always cooler. Big Smile

Unfortunately, there's not much out there on the Cave Angel X-Wing, but I think I've scrounged enough to piece together the camo scheme. There's a good side view in my Rogue One Visual Guide, also found this pic online:

You just know Revell or Bandai will release one as soon as you finish this.

Hey PB those are looking amazing. You're like a one man Imperial production line- good thing you bought the X-Wing to bring some balance to the Force. Wink

Going to have to look up Cave Angel, everything went by so fast in the space fight parts of 'R1' I don't clearly remember them. Sounds awesome!

I too am curious what that announcement might be......

Hey, Everyone:

SW kit assembly line continues apace....

Got the SD primed today. The Shapeways replacement shield generators arrived, so I ground down the generator bases on the top of the bridge and will attach the replacements after the main structure painting is done:

Also making good progress on the AT-AT. Got the cockpit/head, main guns, and a couple of legs assembled, and also primed two of the feet. I'm going to paint these before assembly to make things easier:

Workbench is getting crowded, lol:

And this also arrived, a little surprise for my final build:

My plan is to make this into one of Saw Gerrera's "Cave Angel" X-Wings with the black and white splinter camo. I *love* splinter camo schemes, I love SW ships so...when I saw this X-Wing variant in Rogue One it was a no-brainer, must-do build.  :-)

Finally, someone posted over at Starship Modeler that they talked to a Bandai Rep at the Shizuoka Hobby Show, and the guy claimed that Bandai will have a "VERY" big announcement at the Tokyo Toy Show in June. I hope it's true! Too bad now June will take forever to get here. Propeller

Hope everyone is well.

PB

Went to the local hobby shop for supplies and almost violated my no new kits until I finish some on my bench policy.  They had the new Bandai U-Wing/Tie Striker combo.  Wish they did it in 1/72 instead of 1/144.

Thanks, guys, all good food for thought. :-)

I went ahead and ordered a couple of cans of Tamiya primer from a nearby HS, and might also test out Duplicolor....but I have the same problem/concern, too, Gamera--that spray cans are just not as precise as I tend to be ham-handed with them (flashbacks to trying to spray paint Monogram kits as a kid).

But the Zvezda SD is pretty big, so not sure my trusty Iwata HP-CS is the right tool for the job, either. Kinda like bringing a knife to a gun fight?

I've used them a little, not that much since the cans seem to go on really heavy and I tend to get a 'lead-foot' with my finger and flood it on. If you can just mist it on they seem to work fairly well or at least they have for me. I tend to just prime stuff with my airbrush these days though.

The Krylon and Dupli-Color primers are safe for modelling.  My only problem with them is that they go on thicker than Tamiya's.

PB, Bish and Gamera, Thanks for the complients and critique. More clutter seems to be the way to go and some figures. I do have some preissler 1/48 figures that are a german aircraft maintenance crew, maybe I can do something with those. For now other projects are calling, but, yeah Bish, you know I won't pass up a SW GB.

Thanks again and I will be checking in to see what is going on.

I had been thinking about converting German figures for the AMT AT-ST, so some reason i had thought that was 48th. But German figures seem to me to be the best choice largley because of the helmets.

Don't know about automotive primers, but I have had good results with krylon spray paints.

Hey, guys:

About 98% done with the SD construction, but now waiting for some resing replacement shield generators to come in from Shapeways.

Also, question: have you guys used automotive primers on plastic kits? Seems like some think it's a bad idea (can harm styrene), others swear by auto primer paint and have had no problems. The SD is so big, I'm thinking of using Duplicolor primer, but don't want to damage the plastic. Hm. I'm not sure what to do and wondering if any of you guys have tried it.

So in the meantime, started the AT-AT:

Thanks Gamera, my HobbyLobby used to have a good train section put not so much anymore. I am not even sure of a good train shop in my area, would probably end up shopping on line.

Stephen: Sounds cool! 'O' gadge railroad stuff it pretty much 1/48th so you might be able to find some joggers to convert to fleeing people. Just an idea... 2 cents

Wow, that's awesome Stephen! Love it!

Not to nitpick but yeah a little more clutter in the street would look cool though. Maybe you could find some dollhouse fruit or vegetables for an overturned vendor cart or something like that???

Outstanding diorama, Stephan! Weathering on the AT-STs is really well done, too...beaten up and gritty but not to the point of looking ready for the scrap heap. And the hand-painted markings are a nice touch. Yes

I agree the scene could use some more clutter/debris and maybe a figure or two, but it's great as-is. Not to mention I know nothing about dioramas and how they "should" be rendered. :-)

Glad you want to see me finish the SD. Hope I can do it justice. And that unbuilt AT-AT is also calling to me....

Thanks, NMT!

Lol @ Gamera's image of driving around with huge SD on roof. That made me chuckle. Especially because you would HAVE to have one arm sticking out the driver's window, holding onto it. I bet one of the Lucasfilm model guys had to do that back in the Seventies.

Bluemoon has a kit in 1/350, but it is just shy of $300 on starshipmodeler.com. When they have it in stock, nice kit though.

Ye, i think i have seen it on there. Just had a look, the Rebel Runner, of course. Be nice to get a plastic one.

I noticed there is now a 72nd TIE Defender from Kessel Run kits on there.

I've seen that kit around, looks really nice. If I didn't already have the X-Wing game miniature, might get the BM kit. Although for $300, maybe not...hm. :-)

Well, once again with a smal but pivital role in Rogue One, I am hoping for a 1/350 scale Tantive IV. I would not mind some decent scale Rebel capital ships, don't scoff Bish, we need something for these SDs to attack.

PB, looking forward to seeing your SD come together.

No scoffing from me. I have an X and Y wing. Every good Imperial pilot needs to know his enemy Wink

I think a decent tantive IV is well over due. has there ever been a kit of it, can't say i have seen one.
