So I did some more weathering and stuff last night.  I'm actually liking the way it is turning out.  Not sure how accurate or true the colors are...but hey, it's a Sci-Fi.  LOL!  The decals are from 1984!!!  They are proving to be a bit troublesome, but multiple coats of Micro Sol might help.  And a coat of dullcaot when I'm finished should help.  I going to throw some color on some of the "conduit" and I'm actually finding that there is a fair amount of detail in this old kit (for '84 standards).  So some dry brushing and a wash should help make it pop.  So here ya go.  Thanks for checking it out.

Bish

Looking good Bobby. Keen to see how your going to paint this. And of course its to be expected that it will be a bit grimy. Those rebel scum don't have the same high standards as the professionals of the Empire Wink

Thank you Bish....I mean..LORD VADER.  LOL!

Going to do a little something with a darker grey for the body and the usual white for the cockpit area and engine "nacelles".  Going to add some color to the piping and paint up the mech droid.  Hope it turns out alright.  Doing some major weathering on this one.  Devil

Hey everyone!  Awesome work here!  Very inspiring!

My apologies for the delay in pics and all.  Been crazy busy at work and have been laid up sick the past couple of days.

Well, here is what I have so far for my SW entry.  The OLD Y-wing fighter.  Went together very quickly...of course I've been putting it together like a regular kit and not a snap tite.  Going to do a little something different with the colors for the fighter and try some serious weathering....those rebels don't have the time to clean their ships you know.  Whistling.  So here it is...the Y-wing!

More to come soon!

Porkbits

Thanks, guys! Yeah, not a lot of parts to this kit, I'm already about 80% done with the assembly. Most of the work will be painting and weathering.

Bish, from what I read, the Bandai AT-AT will be slightly over 6 inches tall (152mm or 15.25cm). And pre-release pics reveal Bandai's usual awesome level of detail. Despite being smaller, the Bandai kit should best the AMT:

(scroll down the page a bit for test shots)

Ye, i can't recall the exact scale of the AMT, but i think it wasslightly over 144. But bandai will definetly produce a betterkit thats for sure and they seen to be sticking to set scales, AMT were all over the place.

Hi Everyone, I've never built a Star Wars model, but I just had a look at the finished models on page 1 and wanted to comment on the great work here. I'll keep following this, even if I don't build. Cheers Tony

Now thats really looking nice.I do like that pit. Will be interested to see that AT-AT as well. Fromwhat i can tell its a bit smaller than the old AMT kit, but will be interesting to see how it compares.

Finally got some bench time after about a week (phew). Just a minor update with some more bits assembled. When I find some more time, I'll paint a base coat and then figure out where to go from there.

Have my eye on Bandai's 1/144 AT-AT, which should be out soon, and keeps looking better and better. Bish, you might have to add one to my build list. These Bandai Star Wars kits are like the crack cocaine of modelling! (ok, bad comparison) Propeller

Hope everyone is well.

Looks like a pretty detailed kit there.

And as you said is there much visible of the figures other than their faces though the view slits?

NMT, the Defender looks great. Wish I had that on my shelf. :-)

The Bandai AT-ST is supposed to be a really good kit. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Yes, I will paint the sub-assemblies and then weather the whole model.

can really see the size of that. And ye, that Revell kit is definetly bigger than 1/50. The cockpit is a huge give away.

And no, not at all. I am still to decide what second kit i want to do later in the year. I'll be watching that, i have it saved on my e-bay along with the snowspeeder, so keen to see how it goes together.

Have you ever built the old AMT kit.

Thanks guys, the colors are unofficial. I do not know of any official squadron markings. It was a nice kit, alittle difficult keeping the wings straight while the epoxy set and mine are still a little wonky (and that is a technical term). I left the cockpit glass out as it was pretty thick and did not let the frame sit right. I have comparison pics and I will post those shortly.

That is real nice Stephan. I really like the colours, are those offical or your own rendition. I love it, going to have to grab one.

Always a pleasure to have you on board. Thank you.

Great finish! That's a mean looking TIE and the weathering on it looks just about perfect.

To: Commander

       TIE Research and Development

From: Major Cheyzel

            Program Coordinator, TIE-D

Subject: First Operational Report

Admiral,

The 5672nd fighter squad using operational prototype TIE-D's, engaged a sizable rebel fleet in the Felucia  system. The prototypes were successful in destroying 6 x-wing fighters a CR-70 Corvette and severely damaging a Nebulon frigate. Our support ships are in pursuit of the frigate now, we do not want news of our new fighter reaching the rebellion, yet. If I may sir, several of the pilots have come to call the TIE-D the defender. If it suits the Emperor I would like to make that official.

Maj. Cheyzel out.

Thanks for all the tips, Justin, and sorry about the digression, Bish!

Unfortunately, I have family matters to take care of this week, but hope to return to the workbench (and speeder) next week (even went to my LHS today get some supplies).

Looking forward to any build pics that you guys post in the meantime.

Bish

I don't mind my thread going off topic, but i at least like to have some idea what people are talking about. I was curious before about this Derby discussion, but now after seeing those pics, i just have to ask.

Not so much "off topic" as more of a sub thread...lol...basically, we have a youth group here in the states, the boy scouts of America , that starts in elementary school, a group called the cub scouts, and every year they have what's called "the pinewood derby " ,where the kids...with the help from their adults...build a car out of a block of wood.  In our pack, the adults and families can build a car as well.  They are built following a set of rules, governing height, weight, length and other criteria.   It is quite a fun time!

YES! Woody with a pair of single-fins and Steve! Those are awe. some. Will have to show my son the one your kid did (he is obsessed with Minecraft even though we won't let him play it yet). +10 for creativity. :-)

And thanks for the tips. I think the problem I/we had was weight placement and getting the nails (ahem, I mean "axels") into the car straight. Kept splitting the wood. Grrrr.

Also, looking forward to that Shuttle build. ;-)

When I added the axles, I would push them in as far as I could with my thumb before using a hammer, and after they were fully seated, I used an old butter knife to tap the shafts of the axles flat against the axle groove.

Don't forget to smooth the axles first!
