Gentlemen,

I started the TIE fighter yesterday. I really like this kit, very detailed, low part count. The Added PE will make a nice difference. I'm currently adding the PE to the cockpit and exterior. Pictures to follow of these additions.

Here are pictures of the sprues.

Command pod:

Solar Array Wing:

Second Solar Array Wing:

And the extra's:

Paragrafix PE and a resin 8x11 inch base of the Death Star:

I have some clear acrylic rod and clear styrene sheet coming so I can fabricate this TIE flying over the Death Star.

Thank you for looking!

Nice Bruce. I do like the FM kits, i go for the 72nd ones myself. Never been able to get any AM for them though.

Where did you get the base.

@Cliff,

Looking forward to seeing you light up that A-wing! That is a cool little kit!

@Bish

Nice job on the office of the Shuttle, the Emporer would be most pleased!

Bruce: That TiE looks awesome. Love how the molded the solar panels separtly for painting. Interested to see how the PE parts work out, I think they do them for much of the Bandai line but I chose not to spring for them.

Slowly working on the A-Wing. I've had to cut some stuff out for the wiring so I'm trying not to move too fast and end up cutting out something I shouldn't.

Cliff, Bish, thanks for the comments!

Bish, I bought the base on eBay from a guy here in the US. It was $20 + shipping. There is another guy in the UK who is selling "death star tiles" on eBay. You can see them here. They looked nicer than what I have. I didn't get them due to the shipping cost from the UK.

Thnaks Bruce. Those look similar to the ones they have on Star Ship moderler. I was planning on getting that to use with my 72nd kit of Dartsh TIE and a couple of fighters. They are not exacly the same desig but they are the same size. That will save me a few quid on postage.

Cheers Bruce.

I scored a Revell Resistance X-Wing (the big one, not the little one) from Hobby Lobby with the help of one of their %40 off coupons, so count me in the build for that. I'm also in the New Years Resolution build with another kit so I probably won't get started on it til February.

Hey, everyone:

Forgot to check after the holidays that the GB started (Sorry, Bish, I'm a little slow on th uptake) so....glad to be aboard!

Zvezda SD arrived yesterday, and man, is she nice:

But I'll probably start with the FM 1/72 TIE in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, my mom passed away right before Christmas, so need to get through her funeral and other related matters before I can begin a project. A (small) build like the TIE is about all I can handle mentally right now anyway, but it'll be therapeutic.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well.

Short update. I got everything together a few days back. Needed a bit of filling and sanding along the sides of the hull and pit. I had hoped to have the painting complete by now but got slowed down trying to tint the canopy.

The pit was finished with painting in all the knobs and switches. In the movies the pits are black, but i figured it would be very hard to see anything under a tinied canopy, so this is Darths other shuttle.

This kit is a lot bigger than i had expected. I would like to do another one in flight mode, but these are now going for big money on e-bay, i have seen a couple at over £100. I ain't that desperate for one.

Should have the painting done by tomorrow or Tuesday, depends if i think it needs another light coat.

That looks really good Bish. My dad built one about 20 years ago for an IPMS show and it's gigantic in his display case, and he did it in the flight mode on the stand.

PB: Awesome, I've been following Robiwon's ISD, looking forward to seeing how yours comes along.

Bish: Lookin' good! I never noticed there was that much room between the pilot and co-pilot but I guess they needed it for all the rebels to crowd into the cockpit!

Thanks G. Actually, there shouldn't be. Thie kit pit doesn't look at alllike the ones you see in the movies. There should be seats in there for a start. If you recall the scene where the rebelsare flying down to Endor, behind Han and Chewy is Leia and Luke both on seats. The kit could actually do with a lot of improvment but i just wnated a nice quick build and after having itso many years its niceto just get it built.

Alot of people who build this black out the canopy as they did in the movies. If i get a chance to do an in flight one, i will probabaly do that, as well as improve some of the detail on the outside.

Oh yeah, I remember now- somehow I was thinking Luke and Leia were leaning over Han and Chewie's shoulders. And I watched RotJ again about a month ago!

I suppose it could be corrected but I know the old rule that: 'If you massively rework an old kit to correct it a company will come out with an improved kit before you finish.'

A close relative to the 'If you buy an expensive resin kit some company will put out a cheaper and better detailed injection molded one soon after.'

'And if you scratchbuild a subject that's not available- yeah some company will put out a kit before you're done.'

O yes, the golden rules of model building.

The old MPC/AMT  kits are not known for accuracy, but i do like them. I can't imagine we will get a new decent one of these. I know Revell have done a couple of smaller ones in their snap tite and easy kit range, but i like these bigger ones.

When you go into your photo stream and click on a photo, next to the photo, on the lower roght, there are several options buttons.  Tap/click the curved to the right arrow, and a https:// link will appear in a popular box...select "bb code" and copy the link that is supplied, and just paste it into the text field of your post!  Easy peezy japaneezy!

I had planned an update over the weekend. But i had a paint issue and PB was not playing ball anyway. I painted with Tamiya acrylics over an Alclad black primer. After letting it dry for a couple of days, i started doing some oil dot filtering. But my solvent, white spitits, started to strip away the paint. No idea why, the acrylic should have been fine. So, i had to strip back that wing and re paint. So this is it before weathering, this time with flory washes.

I have since got on with the weatherign and hopefully will have some more pics tomorrow.

And thanks Justin for the tip on using Flickr. Now i am getting my head round it, i am liking it more and none of the issues as with PB.
