Mr.Color do label a paint as 'Propeller Color 131'. Nick Millman, who has spent much time studying Japanese aircraft, describes it as a chocolate brown with luster. It should have a sheen to it like satin, and would only be completely flat if it a derelict aircraft. Age and oil splashes on the rear blades can alter the shade.

Jack
I use a sorta reddish-brown brick-red colour. Something like Tamiya's XF-64 or Model Master's Rust. I've seen some people use a more straight brown with less red, it might vary too based on wear and weathering on the prop.

Ok this is a question for you guys that have done Japanese WWII planes. when Hasegawa says the prop color is "Propeller brown" what color have you used? I can't for the life of me remember what I've used in the past.

Guys, just signed-up for ImageShack and am replacing all the old PhotoBucket links.
Jeaton and Steve I've got your completed models up on the front page. LostAgain, I've got your photo somewhere, my laptop I think and I'll get it posted ASAP. WrinkledM, I don't have your photos around, if you see this could you please repost them?
modelcrazy I vote Imageshack or Flicker, but Flicker may do the same thing at some point.

Thanks Steve! I remember you recommending them before, they're the first two I'll be looking into.
Steve
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hey guys, you may have noticed but I had the GB photos posted on PhotoBucket. Which of course has dropped their free basic level service. I'll be looking into either just going with the basic level paid service or transfering the photos over to someone else this weekend.
Thanks very much bsyamato, and you are right, I will go and have a beer! Cheers everyone!
Really well done on the ship Piers
Hey Piers, just got you posted. I see you already picked up the badge. It was great having you in the GB and would love to have you in number seven if you'd like to join us.
Thanks Cliff, it won't be going on an ocean base any time soon - we are going to redo our study floor in the next 3 weeks so most of my diorama stuff is stored out of reach. Made sure the modelling gear is accessible to the end though...
Please use the 3rd picture down.
I have been trying to do more non-military to get some variation and get out of the comfort zone. Next is a race car, then a fire bomber, then back to military!
I found the rigging pretty easy, but I had to repair the railing in a number of spots as my fat fingers kept breaking it off as I manoeuvered it about...
Jack, thanks for the kind words, looking at the box I worried it would be very black and white, but there are a lot of colour details. And yes the stripes came out well - thank you.
Steve, thank you, that means a lot knowing your standard on ships. One day I will try a water base...
Piers
That's some beautiful work! It just impresses the heck out of me that you can put all that rigging on a model. I'd be knocking it off left and right. And love the paint scheme, it's a nice change from military stuff with it's grey on grey.
Do you want me to go ahead and use one of your photos for the front page or do you want to put her on a ocean type base first?
Great job on the Maru Lost.
Lost, that ship turned out great!
Good to see you got the funnel stripes sorted out, and I like the varied colours introduced throughout the ship, really adds to the finished look.
Looking really good there bsyamato, looking forward to the finished product in the near future.
Like the look of the laura model too.
And the Hikawa Maru is finished! This was my first ship for 30 years and second ever. I was happy with how it went. The addition of PE railings tested my patience at times, but it was a lot better after I got good CA glue. Rigging went well, using EZ line.
Gamera,
Thanks for running the GB, it has been good fun to try something different. I do have more Japanese themed models so I hope to be back next year.
LA: Thanks! I figured you'd paint stuff and then attach it but I wasn't sure.
Bsyamato: Wow, she's almost there now, beautiful work.
scottrc Bsyamato, Your zero is coming along nicely. But I must say, your cutting pad, its also an interesting composition of color that represents a fine piece of abstract art.

LOL i'll try to sell it on Ebay when replace with another one
I use the pad to paint seat belts with masking tapes , so strange color mixing are on it

Hi Gamera,
I have painted them off the model - I find it much easier that way. If I tried on the model, I reckon there would be splats of paint in all sorts of places. I do have to do some touch ups on the main model, but little enough that I can get away with it.
John looking forward to seeing you do the chipping over the decals.
Ya, they were kind of a pain, now I need to add some chipping to the decals themselves to match the green paint.
LA: She's coming along great! I have to wonder though- do you paint the small stuff like the lifeboats and then attach them or attach them and paint?
John: Looks great! Those arrow decals can be a pain but yours look perfect.
Got some more decals on my Tojo last night
bsyamato,
nice detail painting there. Won't be long now!
Scott,
See what you mean. Sort of Rodney Beecher Roberts crossed with Jackson Pollock...
More details have gone into the Hikawa Maru. I have done the railings, ventilators and fore mast up at the pointy end.
At the stern, the railings have gone around 2 levels and the aft mast deck. Lifeboats and other details are in.
Not too many pieces left, then just rigging and decals to go.
As usual she's coming along great there!
LOL
Lately i use always a magnifier to glue and paint pieces :)
:D :D
Aotake, Semigloss to seal decals , masking and painted details, drybrush on gears and wheels, silver where needed .. almost done :)
Engine test At the next!

Those look good guys, great work!!!!!
Wish I had something to post but I'm still working on the figures. I've bought an Optivisor but I'm still going cross-eyed from trying to paint the detail.....
Got some decals on her on Father's day. Got down to my bench about 7pm last night.
lostagain ..Is all your painting with a brush? ...

Brushes evrywhere :) i don't have airbrush.
Going with zero grey , hard to show the real color with smartphone. Also a light postshadind throught the panel lines.
Two glossy clear layer and put on the old hasegawa kit decals, problems only with one of bottom hinomaru At the next!

Hey bsyamato, good work on the wheel wells. Coming along nicely there. Is all your painting with a brush?
Jack, thanks that's a good idea, I do have some clear decal sheet so I can paint the red stripes on that. I have painted the large white stripe directly on the funnel which went surprisingly well.
