Just got you posted.

Not sure if he's adding anymore figures to his collection but I'll be sure to let you know if so. He's even got a Bob Hope RSO tour figure- that one really floored me!

I noticed while watching the new Star Wars that two of the characters are dressed in what look like Japanese pilot uniforms.

That looks fantastic PC, really well done on the whole thing. Your pilots look great too.

I've continued work on the 109, with an intention of getting it done this year.

Here, I've masked it up for RLM 65.

Light coat on RLM 65 on the fuselage sides to obliterate the overspray of the camo colours.

Reinstated the pre-shading to the fuselage sides.

I must have missed photographing it at this stage, sprayed it with Gunze RLM 65, then a slightly lightened tint in the middle of each panel.

Then I've sprayed the fuselage side mottle, trying to emulate the pattern that was on the real aircraft. I think it's a reasonable copy. It's quite a different pattern on each side.

I couldn't see that the mottle overlapped much on the upper surface colours in  the few photos I've got, so maybe they had masked that before they sprayed the mottle. I've gone for that look.

I've since given it a couple of coats of Future, with any luck I can finish it this weekend.

I found that spraying the RLM 65 after the topside camo was good because I had less area to mask. I didn't really come up with a downside, but I've done it both ways in the past, and probably will in the future too.

Cheers

Tony

Tony: Looks great! Guess I should build something German again, I miss doing those ink blot camo schemes. Course my airbrush would always give me fits, I'd get one good side and then have to redo the other, wish mine had looked as perfect as yours!

Steve: Cool, haven't seen it yet. Will have to watch for that!

Merry Christmas to all. It's boxing day here now. I always remember boxing day 1976...being new to modelling, I was given some kits, Airfix Zero, B-17, HMS Fearless, B-25 and one other I can't remember. It was a busy Boxing Day, I had them all finished by night fall. Ha ha they were the days, bring on another Weekend GB :)

Anyway, I ot my little 109 done, I hope you like it.

Cheers

Very interesting Tony Yes, the Japanese trying to be German. The Japanese had good planes of their own. It must have been odd for the pilots to fly a craft that had a completely different philosophy behind it.

Hey Gamera,

I needed to post my Akagi in hopes that I should have it completed by the weekend.Big Smile

To say the least, after 16 hours of applying the deck decals, I ended up a mindless sea urchant last night, but I got them all on.  After a good 8 hours of sleep, I'm ready to get back on the Akagi to mount the deck, island, and final fittings, then onto the airwing.

I wonder why the Japanese painted the ship up to be such a lovely target?  It really stands out from a distance.

Well done, John.  Nothing looks better than a Zero with good canopy work.

Thank you John. I was pleased when I pulled the masking off at how good it looked.

Scott: Looks terrific!!! I think some of the markings were to help ID the each carrier to returning aircraft like the giant numbers on the decks of USN carriers. But yeah the brightness of the them does seem like it would make them better targets. Not much more to go, hopefully you can finish by the weekend with New Year's monday!

TJ: Fantastic job there! Light grey isn't easy to do and the canopy looks perfect- great job there all around! I went ahead and posted the top photo with you finished models and stash in the background. If you want to use another let me know and I'll replace it.

PS: Sorry I wasn't around for a few days there. I worked Christmas and Christmas weekend and finally got a few days off. I could have logged on but when I get on the PC I tend to want to play a game for a half-hour or so. Most of the time the half-hour soon grows into four-five hours and I find I've gotten nothing done all afternoon. So I just leave the PC turned off... Tongue Tied

I love how your finish turned out TJ.  Great balance between the preshade and topcoat.

Gamera, you have the same problem I have when I get on the computer.  I check my forums and before I know it, four or five hours had gone by and I lost my window of time to actually work on my build.

My News Years resoulution is to build first, and then go to the computer.  So you may not see much of me, and that could be a good thing because then when I do log on, I can post accomplishments.

Well, I'm pretty much shot on finishing by the end of the year.

I pulled the tracks for the Type 95 out of the box yesterday and well you'd have better luck bending a pretzel. They were old and one had already broken in the box and after I painted them they'd turned hard and brittle. So they're trash...

I found a nice looking metal set from Spade Ace for about twenty-five bucks so I went ahead and ordered them. They're on the slow boat from China though so no telling when they'll get here.

Anyhow, ready to close out this GB and kick off the new one tomorrow. Happy New Years guys!!! Balloons

Hi Cliff, same here, I'll be continuing the current build  into part VII.  That AVI/RisingDecals collaboration Claude kit has a lot rough fit to it, plus a trio of details that normally should be included, but for some reason were not.

regards,

Jack
