I worked a little on the Mavis and finished the construction. I added liquid mask to the windows and it's always worked for me before although I get a little leery if I covered everything well enough since it dries clear. I placed it on the base (not finished) for effect. I will give it a black base coat then paint it a NMF with red anti foul paint on the bottom.

The Japanese sure made a big girl.

Here is the base after the thined blue, a spray of white for the wake and a coat of acrylic varnish. The next steps are a drybrush of white for the wave tops, and adding cotton for the wakes. Once I add the Mavis I will add cotton for the spray.

Some fantastic work going on here, I wish I had been around more to compliment each and everyone of you.

I've finally shaken off the the modeling blues and have once again started the I-400.

I know the original pictures were on Photobucket, so I'll show you the kit and then start posting some WIP pictures.

Here is the kit, Tamiya's 1/350 I-400 aircraft carrier submarine:

And a close shot of the Seiran aircraft it carried:

For it's time, the I-400 was a large submarine.

Here is a comparison in 1/350 scale between the I-400 (top), a US Gato Class (middle) and German U-Boat (bottom):

I hope to have some progress pictures posted in the next couple days. It feels good to be back in the plastic again.

 Excellent work going on here guys, Doc, Bsy, Steve all outstanding.

Did some work on my Val. I dumped the plastic exhaust pipes and made some from aluminum tubing. I also used the UMM razor saw to cut each cowling flap for added detail:

I sitipled some Mr. Surfacer Formula 500 on the bombs to give them some rough cast texture. I still have to scratch out the thin fin brace strips not provided and a few more thingies to be added before the painting stage.

All the small belly small bits were added including the mains.

Next will be assembling the delicate bomb trapeeze and some other minor details.

And good updates there, i relly like the mavis, i build the civil trumpeter version some years ago, nice kit

On the Zuiun scratchbuileded last missing details, rear pilot upper bulkhead and radio antennas , gunsight (clear visor i'll add after paint). The MG seems to be the german mg131 so i'll pick up one from revell germa kits 

That looks pretty good Steve, and is a vastly different technique to mine. I'll have a play with that at a later date.

Working on the base, I painted greenish blue (for "shallow" water) amd added another coat of acrylic gel. I add some thinned blue tonight continue to apply acrylic gel while I work on the kit.

The filler worked well on the flaps and wing and I started on the fuse. While the parts are drying I started on the base. I'm using my usual technique of drawing out where I want the wake on a piece of hard Styrofoam, the kind one uses for fake flower arrangements. I turned the base upside down and using a lighter I burned in random waves, I then added strips of paper using medium acrylic gel.

There is only one marking option of a IJN transport plane in NMF so I'm going with that. I can tell there are other options in the kit that are not shown in the instructions. I'm not sure why they didn't want you to be able to build diffrent versions since the parts are on the tree but there it is. Maybe a later boxing uses both. The instructions want the builder to drill out windows on the fuse sides and add tiny little windows which would have to be masked. The holes are so small that I'm just going to add a drop of future to duplicate windows. Hope it workes, it's too late to add then now. The clear parts tree also has waste blisters that are not called out on the instructions.

There aren't many parts in the kit so this shouldn't take me too long to complete.

Scott: Looks cool! I've pre-shaded armour and aircraft so I guess there's no reason you can't do it to ships too!

Steve: Looks cool too! Of course you can add it, looking forward to seeing how she turns out and how you do the water base.

Sorry guys, I haven't been around this weekend too. I'm on vacation/holiday and been busy and had some iffy wi-fi connections. What I've got in this motel is much better.

Just to make it up a little here's something I saw on the side of the road while driving south from the Wright Brothers memorial in Kill Devil Hills to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras. I didn't want to go poking around on the guy's property and end up arrested, shot, or prying a rottwieler off my leg so I just took the photos from the side of the road.
