You know I suppose you could stick her in a diorama and have a tarp over the seam on the nose where the maintanance crew pushed it forward off the canopy. 

After a weekend marathon I finished my Tamiya 1/48 A6M5c Zero. Here are a coupleg of shots of the cockpit with Eduard PE. And then an underside and a regular shot. After seeing the pictures, I cannot believe I missed that seam in front of the cockpit. Next time I’ll do better. This is my first Tamiya kit and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I’m going to try doing some weathering on it, so I’ll get some better pictures and post them.

Looking forward to the results of the rescribing!! Want to do the Monogram 1/48 F-106 with recessed panel lines, so thoughts on your work will be heeded. Going to do it in CA ANG markings like I saw at an airshow back in th elate 70's.

Didn't get much modeling time in today but managed to get the rivets off the Val. Tomorrow I will be re-scribing it!

Hey Hunter, I'll go ahead and post it. I can change it out later if you want when you finish the diorama.

And yeah the paint should stick just fine. The clear coat is paint too and it shouldn't be an issue for paint to stick to paint.

BTW: You can avoid a lot of the leakage under masking by spraying a clear paint like gloss or matte varnish (or Future) right into the mask (the opposite you'd do with paint). The clear leaks under the mask and 'seals' it so the paint you spray afterward doesn't leak. Essentually you're getting leakage under the mask but it's clear so it will vanish with the final matte overcoat.

 

 

Now, if I spray the clear coat as you mentioned once the clear coat dries will the paint adhere to it? I have never applied a clear coat once a build was complete. I plan on doing it on a A10A Thunderbolt that I am building in a few weeks. This was my second build so I am still braking my teeth into this awesome hobby. Thank you very much for the instructions on how to do it. Also, my hat is off to you for another awesome GB!!

Well I'm calling it done. Once again I had a great time in your GB Gam. I have plans for this aircraft in a dio setting later this year. I will be posting that in the "diorama" forum. Once again, thank you and I will be looking for the Japanese VII GB.

Hello everyone,

I finally got home yesterday afternoon and got back at it early this morning. I am nearing the end and I learned a few things again with this build. I am learning what parts to paint before installation and proper fitting. I was kinda surprised with this kit compared to my other Tamiya kit in the Japanese GB V. I had to use more putty, and a lot of sanding. Overall I still enjoyed the kit....I still have along ways to go before I produce some nice builds. Just like anything you have to start out learning LOL

Taped off to paint the yellow

As you can see that did not go well...went back and hand brushed the IJN green. Lesson learned...make sure the tape is fully seated in all groves.

Prop and canopy painted. Lesson learned....will be masking all canopy's going forward. LOL

Most definitely Gam!! Lots of those old Airfix kits can be made into a silk purse, just need a lil tlc, and elbow grease lol.

Wow, when you said 'old' I thought you meant maybe 20-30 years old! I've never seen an Airfix box like that- this should be interesting. Good idea on replacing the decals-curious to see how you do this. 

Thank you Gamera! While do not want to 'superdetail' the kit, I would like to give the kit something resembling a decent cockpit. I am looking into some PE but I am inspired by Bsyamato's scratchbuilding work! Here is what I am starting off with:

Lodni: Sure you're welcome! The GB does end at the close of the year though so you've got till Dec 31, 2017 to finish up. I noticed that the Midway GB ends in June of next year. Of course if you don't finish by the end of the year you're more than welcome to 'roll over' your kit to Japanese GB VII.
