I did some work on the Val's seams last night and got them smoothed out. I scratched the missing cockpit piece and need to scratch something to duplicate whatever is sitting on top. I also need to scratch the canopy braces but that should be about it.

Drawing of Val cockpit.

My silly futile attempt at duplicating the missing section. But if it works....

Great diagram, Steve.  Very clear and easy to understand.  Could use such clarity for other aircraft!  Thanks for posting it.

Hope your "silly futile attempt" goes well.

CMK... I'll go ahead and get my offering started, whats another "arn in da far" lol... I'll be finishing one up soon and will be able to spend more time here shortly. OK, as I said earlier, This will be a Revell 1/32 F4F Wildcat, kits, The plane I chose to represent is one from the USS Hornet CV8. I'm going to also try to do a carrier deck Dio to go with it...

First, Tonka, Semper Fi, and that interior looks awesome! Great work, Steve (MC) your interior also looking good! Keep up the "Futile attempts" !

OK, for me I'm starting the engine first since its the easiest to do right now...

The kit itself...

I think this was from about 85 or 86...Pladstic is kind of brittle, course Revell was using a p***y kind of plastic at the time and the years havent helped any .

The assyembled engine I'll have to look it up but I think this was the 1850 Model Wasp engine. The little tubes at the base of the cyl jugs are Hypo needles cut to length and glued into the ring. They will serve to mount the plug wiring.

Painted... and plug wiring andd some of the fuel and oiling lines installed, (Scratch built)

And the rest of the fuel lines installed, and thats about it for now. Thanks and more later! Take care...
Doug

Doug That engine is GREAT!!  Thanks for comments on my F2A.

I picked up that Wildcat 2 weeks ago as part of a 'find' at a garage sale. I'm thinking of doing it as a Marine bird from VMF 221. Looking forward to your build so I can aspire to your level of detail. I have to find a prop for mine though only part that was missing in kit.

I have no progress to report on my Grumman Avenger, just that it sits in the box waiting for, well, everything.

I may wait till I finish my Corsair before starting.

Whatever it takes, Damian.  The GB will be around for a while!

Also, wanted to let you all know that I have re-posted the group badges and photos of finished models on the front page, after the photobucket disaster.

Hope y'all are recovering if you used this late, less-than-lamented service.

MC, Damian, Tonka, CMK...Man... Thank you all so much for the kind words and support. Tonka... The only thing I can say about this kit so far is again... the plastic is brittle. Check the mold in mark in the fuselage (usually there somewhere) and I'm sure this series of kit was released sometime between 85 and 88. The only reason I'm kinda concerned about the plastic is the landing gear... Have you looked at it yet? Very fragile looking. Other then that, it looks like a fairly well detailed kit, not that a pe set for the pit and maybe some AM decals wouldnt hurt. (But not really a must have)Haven't even thought about the folding wings yet, but I can tell you, I've never had much with them. lol... Well, take care guys, I'll have a bit more soon I hope! lol

OK Guys, here's the update for the Val. I added some Evergreen sprue for the canopy bracing. The canopy isn't attached and neither are the wing tips, they are just there to show the progress. I need to come up with something for the gadgets on the dash. I cut the flaps and showed them in the down position.

The Gizmo on the center instrument hood should be easy to scratch build... or at least something that looks that way.

Nice progress Stove, I like the inverted wing tips as it gives the model more visual appeal.

Keep up the great work.

Doug, can't wait to see what you do with it.

I sprayed the Val silver, sprayed some chipping fluid and got one coat of JN green on before my air valve assembly quit on my AB. I  have it soaking in  thinner but don't hold out much hope for a fix. That will set me back a week or two. I really need to get a second AB.

I think I duplicated the thingy on the dash well enough for 1/72.

Thanks Bish, Damian,Steve,CMK... yeah, my fat fingers and PE sometines don't play well together, but I recently found some tweezers at a local show that have about a 1/4 in flat tip on it and I bought 2 sets. They really do help alot when trying to make sharp bends. Thanks again guys...

There are top notch builds going on here.  Doug and Steve have set the bar pretty high.  Both builds are looking fantastic.  The pits and engines I see on this forum never cease to amaze me.

Finally finished my last project, and pulled out the Fujimi 1/48 A6M2.  My much younger self slopped enamel on some of the pit parts on the sprue.  Of course the wrong colors, and way too thick.

Several hours in Purple Power and a scrub with an old toothbrush took enough of 20+ year old paint off that I can finally start some work.  Hopefully I will have some pit pictures soon.

Well, the forum here was quite helpful.  Settled on trying Purple Power which used to be Castrol Super Clean.  Nasty stuff, so gloves and eye protection necessary.  I probably could have removed all of the paint if I had been more patient, but I was mostly concerned about the heavy dose of paint on the IP.  Got enough off that spraying cockpit green will still allow me to keep the detail on the dials.  Going to have to scratch build a trim wheel, as the carpet monster ate that one up while I was trying to clean it with a toothbush.
