Well, I'm calling this one done.  Nothing fancy, just a few decals and some mottled camo.  This was a fun build but I wouldn't recommend this kit unless you have some free time to burn.  Thank you all for the wonderful comments and support!  This was a great GB! Beer

Ok I think I'm getting the hang of flickr.

I've been playing with Flickr for two days. Wasn't getting the hang of it. The site postimage.com was recommended. Easy to navigate, upload, and post

I'll call this an update but it's more of a test for my new image hosting site.  The camo is done and its ready for minor weathering.  The decals are ruined so I have to figure something out.  Suggestions of overspraying the decal sheet with gloss didn't work.  So, I'll either have to raid the spares or paint my own. Tongue Tied

I really like those late-war colors!  I painted and camouflaged my 229 but I can't post until I get this Photobucket debacle worked out!  Keep up the great work on this 152!

Jack: Man that is some attention to detail that you are putting into that build of yours buddy. I am simply amazed at the level of research and accuracy. Looking forward to more updates as I'm learning new tricks every step of the way.

Johnny: I've always liked that shade of green on these late war aircraft. Very  nice work.

Johnny, good coverage of paint on your 152.

Thanks MM, Bish, and Andy.

I should add  some extra observations about the various antennas:

* main mast - many line drawings appear to indicate it's position right on the Erla canopy frame, while in photos it looks to be on the fuelage spine next to the canopy - I chose the latter.

* fuselage underside whip antenna - this is something that needs to be scratch built because FineMolds did not include one.  There is though a slight recess provided for it's location, and some G-10's did have it alongside with the FuG 16ZY under the port wing.

regards,
Jack

Okay, the canopy is masked and the wings are on.  It’s still fighting with me but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  More work will need to be done at the wing roots and the nose clip doesn’t line up properly so I'll re-contour with Milliput.

You seem to be getting the best of it MM.

Great work there jack, and really nice job pointing out the alterations.

I've just ordered a couple of the FM 109's, the G-10 and K-4, laregely down to watching your build.

At the stage now ready to add primer and paint.

Above are the parts left separate for ease of painting, but here is the remaining details for backdating to the G-6/AS as well as improving some details:

Antennas on top were replaced with brass, as I have a bad habit of breaking plastic ones.  The loop antenna should also have a flatness to it when viewed from the sides, instead of being a ring.

On the starboard engine side, the upper access cover needs to be removed, so a simple fill in here.  The vent scoop on the clear canopy part also needs to be added - the kit part had this more to the rear.

I wasn't sure what type prop blades would be correct for this one.   I have read that initially the thinner blade of the G-6 was kept (which really didn't take advantage of the more powerful engine), but eventually would be replaced with the broader paddle VDM 9-12159.   I believe this the type provided in the G-10 boxing?  Since this is going to be an inflight display, simple answer is to not use any.

The wheels up position required adding some sort of swivel detail to the upper part of the struts.  The wheels themselves also had to be sanded for the doors to sit flush.

I've also embedded a brass tube into the lower fuselage to later accept a length of stainless steel wire for the whip antenna.

regards,

Jack

Chad: Man you are just moving right along with this bad boy!!!!! I couldn't build that fast to save my neck!!

Johnny: You've got yours to that point as well!!! Everything looks smooth and ready to go.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the paint fly on both of these beauties!!!!

Hi Andy, yes have used Maketar for some British roundels and worked great, but were of the vinyl type - have to be careful when placing them as they are stretchy somewhat.  The kabuki tape ones are better quality though, no shrinkage from cutting and more rigid.

You can sign up for their newsletter, and that will notify you of any sales.

Joe, that cockpit and wheelbay look amazing! I can't wait to see more. Rooster, your painted markings look pretty good! Certainly better than when I tried it on a Stuka a few years ago...

Andy, actually pretty good looking results with the home made masks.  if you plan to do regular spraying of cross markings, you might be interested in Maketar products.  They usually have a 30% off sale once or twice a year.

Those masks look very handy Jack! Have you used them before? I'll keep an eye out for a sale but I may have to pick up a set. 6 masks of each cross size is enough to do a few aircraft so the price isn't bad. I appreciate the help and advice you've given me...thanks buddy!

Thanks rocker286 and Mustang, glad you approve the pimped up drop tank.

Mustang, that is some sweet detail in the pit and  gear bays.

MM, yes essentially with the gloss coat, you are creating a clear flim over the whole decal sheet.   I'd leave it at full 24hr to dry before trimming and soaking in water.  If using future pledge, probably best to wait 2 days.
