I am really enjoying seeing all the progress everyone has been doing in this GB. Congrats Greg on getting a kit submitted and I hope to see you getting started on it soon.

I didn't get much done this weekend.  I got the engine all set and aligned and have now started finally assembly on it.  I plan the next few build sessions will be detailing the engine and cockpit.

Saturday, I had my attention on breaking in an old engine I rebuilt this last winter on this 1/4 scale cub.

scottrc, that 1/4 plane is awesome.  I still can't imagine how big these planes are.  Are the control panels large as well?  I've seen some on YouTube and these RC controls are large boxes that hang from your neck.

BTW the yellow paint job on this aircraft is superb.  How big is your AB to paint a 1/4 plane?  Thank you in advance!

Bossman

Hello All,

Crown - Nice Meteor - man ! That was quick.  Nicely weathered engine from what I can see.

Brandon - Oh - now I get it.   Well - it looks like you took care of those seams nicely.

Toshi - Those nacelles looked heavy compared to those spindly legs.   Now with the wing assembly . . .   Whoa !   ( I know they get some reinforcing support later )

Justin - It should be fun watching this dio come together.  Just wondering if you'll make your dog nervous though:  After seeing the reservoir on top of his crate being bombed - he'll probably be guarding his water dish quite closely !

Greg - Super !  Another Typhoon !

Scott - goin in the right direction - looking good.

Chris

Actually, the those spindly legs are just a small part of a much larger part of the landing gear.  The landing gear and tires are huge.  Everyone will be surprised by the way the tires are assembled, there are absolutely no seam lines at all.  I'll keep everyone up to date as I've been doing.  Thank you sir for supporting my build and the read and reply!

CMK, thanks for letting me know Humbrol does acrylic.  I think it's Sprue Bros I found stocks it, but only about 1/3 of the whole line. Everybody seems to like Humbrol, I'm not fond of chasing hard to get hobby staples, but might just try some some day.

Greg:  you can order direct from Humbrol in the USA.

https://www.humbrol.com/us-en/

Saves the frustration you're running into.  I've been using their clear coats since Floquil disappeared, so I've been going right to the source.

Excellent work going on--but it's awful hard keeping up with everything!

Oh oh! When I was looking at the Humbrol site and wondering why I was surprised that they have every paint available in stock (Doh!), I didn't catch on that it was a US site, shipping from US.

Thanks, I think. Wink I might be in trouble, I just love inventorying paint.

Yes indeedy, this GB is challenging to keep up with, but definitely a fun one so far.

Oh, and thanks for that link. In hindsight, I'm not sure that's the one I was looking a week or so back.

Toshi, that's cool about screws holding some important parts together in the Tamiya kit. I'd forgotten about that from some of the fancy Tamiya stuff I used to build as a kid.

Between that and the magnets and seeing all that lovely detail you are showing us, it makes me eager to dive into a 1:32 Tamiya.

Thank you so much for the kind words, you humble me.  I'm having such a great time with this kit especially when things like screws that tap into the wing for assembly is involved.  There are several more surprises coming up in the next assembly of which is the main landing gear.

If I may, I'd like to recommend the Tamiya 1/32 P-51 Mustang.  Although my favorite is the Tamiya 1/32 F4U Corsair as I'm a Corsair crazy nut case.

But honestly, all of the Tamiya 1/32 Corsair, Mustang, Zero, and the Spitfire in my humble opinion as I've built them all are recommended one hundred percent!  I think the only other company that can compete in terms of detail is Zoukei Mura.

Greg, thank you so much for such engaging conversations I highly appreciate it.  You and forum members help me so much with my cognition and I can't thank you enough.

I had to go to Tremont in Cleveland for my neurological doctors appointment today.  It normally takes me three hours travel time.  After that, Mrs. Toshi and I went to Applebees for lunch and planned our day tomorrow.

What's so special about tomorrow?  It's Mrs. Toshi and I Twenty Fifth Anniversary!  We will be going to a steakhouse for dinner and maybe a movie.

This evening, I had some opportunity to work on the Mosquito.  As you can see, I was able to paint the lights through the clear parts.  I also utilized the available Tamiya mask for the lights and work on the fuel tanks.  The empty space next to the fuel tanks is for the Hispano Twenty Millimeter Cannons.  That area will also be open to view as it's a highly detailed area.  But let's agree that every area in this build is very detailed.  Next up is the main landing gears.

I didn't know Hornby had a seperate US site, good idea on their part. Specialy handy for getting their paints given the issues on shipping enamels.

Thank you Bish!  I thought that when I got to the wings and added the fuel tanks that I was in the home stretch to the end of the build.  Then I told myself; "Whom am I kidding"!  I knew that I wasn't even halfway through the booklet.Stick out tongue  LOL!

Well, well, well.....Happy Anniversary Mr and Mrs Toshi. Balloons 25 years, that is just great! I hope you both have a great day, and do enjoy your steak dinner. I like going to steakhouses of almost all varieties.

Now then, I chat with you because I really enjoy chatting with you. Again no thank you's required, it's a two way street. I'm extremely appreciative of your online friendship. You are simply a fun guy to chat with online.

Thanks for the Tamiya tips. I don't think I ever mentioned I've had the 1/32 Corsair Birdcage in my very small stash for a couple years already. I like Corsairs too, Toshi! The Mustang sounds like a good choice, and having just built one of their 1/48th's, that might be a good 1/32 to tackle first.

And Zoukei Mura, yes, tugging against my common sense, and so are a couple of the 1:24 Airfixes!

Your wing detail is looking good, like the weathering in the middle compartment. Are those fuel tanks or what?

Yes, and I had to press a few buttons and search a bit on the site CMK provided to prove to myself that they are indeed shipping from the US. As a marketing tool, I wonder if they made that jump out at the reader without having to dig for it, if it might increase their US sales?

I'm just going to have to try some Humbrol now, at worst shipping is $5, and at best free.

Again, thanks to CMK for pointing this out.

Happy 25th Toshi.  Ours will be next year and we are looking forward to it.  That kit just keeps getting more and more impressive.  Are the instructions showing the treads being put on the tires?

In regards to the cub, a spray gun is needed to paint something that big.

Hey Steve, I've flown a Christian Husky a few times, close to Super Cub on steroids.  I've flow many different sizes of RC Cubs.

Got all the details on the SE5 engine last night, did a test fit, and guess what?  It doesn't fit. The Magnetos are too big.  I may be taking a break from this kit to rethink my position and work on my Lexington.

Photobucket won't play nice this morning so no pics yet.

Keep up the great work everyone, comming to this GB and reading the posts makes my day.

To my fellow forum members,

There have been several surprise assembly procedures in this build.  The detailed cockpit, detailed interior, two piece fueselage, wing assembly, and now the landing gear.  I can't nor want to explain too much as I want to surprise all of you with the whole process.

So here is the landing gear of which is hollow.  This will be a surprise assembly as well.  For now I'll be assembling the wheels next.  That is another shocker!

Yes, they are fuel tanks.  The decals state that they carry 50 imperial gallons each.  Check out my next build of which is the tires.
