Toshi

Yes, they are fuel tanks.  The decals state that they carry 50 imperial gallons each.  Check out my next build of which is the tires.

Toshi

Ahah. Thanks for confirming that.

Wow, those are complicated tires indeed. Sure look good, though.

Johnny, your Harrier is looking like a Harrier already.

Yes, I'm impressed with Tamiya's engineering.

Well, I can say that I've never thought I would EVER have to assemble tire tread. Now I've see it all. Nice work, Toshi. Looks great.

Awesome kit Toshi... I can honestly say that I've never had to assy tires like that before. Lolol...Look great though. I heard at my IPMS meeting this week that Mr Tamiya (the son) passed away. He approved (or turned down) all the kits they did and nothing left the engineering Dept without his approval. He will be missed.

Brandon:  nice work with the black paint; monochrome schemes can be difficult--you've accomplished it well

Toshi:  Happy 25!  And more great Mosquito work; those tires are fantastic

TJ:  that's one sleek looking jet

Justinryan:  great looking Lancaster; just watched the Foyle's War episode where someone was trying to sabotage the dam-busting project

crown:  very precise pre-weathering; looks good

Minor progress on Airfix's Hampden:

I test-fitted the bombs to the fuselage bomb racks.  Airfix said to paint the racks silver, which I did, but I suspect they should rightly be black.

Problem is, they fit so tightly, I can't get them off again to glue them.

I managed to add the red stripe around the nose with a ten 0 paint brush, acrylic craft paint, and a damp tooth pick to sharpen up the lines.  Won't show very well anyway in the bomb bay.

Thank you for the kind words and support everyone!  I greatly appreciate it!  Guess what happened tonight?

Before Mrs. Toshi and I went to a Steakhouse, she asked if we could go to Hobby Lobby.  I thought we were going for some arts and crafts for her.

Before I know it.  She's at the register paying for what you see below.  I was blown away with my twenty fifth anniversary gift.

Of course I took it home and took it apart to see it's innards.  LOL!  I was excited!  I did get Mrs. Toshi a Michael Kors bag as a gift which she is using while I write this.

Here is my brand new Iwata Eclipse.

Isn't that annoying? I've had that happen test fitting various things.

I can't believe you free-handed those red rings. Very impressive indeed, CMK!

An Iwata Eclipse. McCool! Which one is it, the HP-CS or something else? Whichever it is, you'll love it and even better that your Hobby Lobby likely stocks some of the more important spare parts.

Michael Kors, not too shabby, good man.

I've been wondering all day where you two went for dinner. You have me hankering for a steak, Toshi.

Yes sir, it's the HP-CS Gravity Feed Eclipse.  That's great to know that HL stocks the parts for the Eclipse.  I'm sure they'll have things like the needle and nozzle.  Yeah, Mrs. Toshi is into her bags.  It's either Michael Kors or Coach.  When we win the lottery, she can have the Louis Vuitton bags.  LOL!

After HL, we went to Outback Steakhouse as it was next to HL.  Mrs. Toshi had a Filet Mignon and I had a Rib Eye Steak.

I can't believe it either.  Propeller I'm not usually so hot at free-handing.

The trick is the toothpick.  With a damp end point, you can dissolve away the uneven parts.

Toshi: Oh wow steak and an Iwata- you can't beat that by much!!!!!

CMK02: Wow, I too am flabbergasted by those perfect rings. I've got to remember the toothpick trick!

BTW: I'm still bumming around on the cockpit here but here's a photo of the kit box just to show what I am working oh so slowly on...

I'm partial to the F4U Corsair, probably my favorite WWII fighter. My affinity for the aircraft may have also been influenced by watching "Baa Baa Black Sheep" as a teen. Anyway, I'm trying to get back into model building after a 35-year absence, and I think it would be appropriate, and motivating, to build a Corsair. A quick search revealed the FAA used them, so I'm going to look into the feasibility of modifying Revell's 1/72 scale F4U-1A Corsair to represent an FAA bird.

Really nice work Check.

One thing that I noticed from your ref photos was the thin-ness of the "tail fin ring" sheet metal.

(Hope y'all don't mind that I'm bringing in a section of my other build here - but I thought it was "on topic" - so I'm guessing some might find it helpful.)

I'm working on the same kind of bombs for my Blenheim.  After seeing your photos, I took a small diameter, circular jewelers file to the ends of those fin-rings and thinned them down as much as I could.  An easy fix that I thought brought them closer to scale.

As you can see above, the Airfix Blenheim kit has a single rail cradle for holding each of the two bombs individually.  In this case Airfix tells me (in true British fashion) to "paint it black" - as you suspected for yours.  Honestly, I couldn't tell you what is correct.  I haven't researched it - I was just obeying the lyrics instructions.

That's a good idea about the bomb fins, Chris.  I wish I'd thought of it!  I've got a Blenheim too, so I'll give that a try when I get to it.
