Hello All,

Beave - "earmuffy" Smile Hehe . . .  I'll have to add that to my technical dictionary of modelling !

Toshi - Those engines and Nacelles keep looking better with each post.  I like the way those exhaust tubes came out.  They look heat-discolored - not rusty like mine sometimes do.

Check - Nice ref photo - thanks.  I have the same ordinance going into a Blenheim at the moment.  This will help me to make 'em more realistic - hopefully.

BrandonK - One trick that I learned (don't remember where) to highlight seam defects during the build is to just go over them with a silver sharpie marker (or silver paint - but a shapie is easier).  It really makes defects pop out - whether its grey, white, or black plastic.  In fact, I used it on my hurricane build to check the fuselage seams - you can see it in the photo that I took before the first coat of dark earth was applied.  I paint with acrylics - so I can paint right over the sharpie "ink".  If you use enamels, you may have to seal it somehow - so the silver doesn't bleed through a coat of fresh enamel.  I'm really not sure though.

Johnny - That Harrier kit is a sweet little gem.  I built one last year.  Airfix did a great job engineering that kit.  Get ready for some marathon decaling sessions.

Scott - Instructions Schminstructions.  You got this.   I never even thought of "tack gluing" before.  That probably would have helped me on one of my last builds - I'll have to remember that idea.  Thanks !

Greg - yeah - at speed, on a smooth water surface, it might be like just driving down the road . . .  but any disturbance in the water or in the air . . .   it would make me really nervous.

Justin - That Lanc looks intimidating !  As both an aircraft AND as a model.

Bish - back in the saddle with your computer ?

I started assembly tonight.  Man, as I expected, I have a challenge and this kit cannot be built using the instructions. My RC plane building experience kicked in. For everything to fit, such as the engine, wings, cowl covers, and the cockpit fuse section, I am forced to jig up the airframe, and then start building the engine after the fuselage is secured and aligned and making adjustments to the engine by test fitting and sanding various assemblies so that the cowl covers and radiator will fit.  There also needs to be some support added to the inside of the fuselage when attaching it to the wing or else it will be out of alignment. When I am all done, there will still be a 1/16" gap between the wing root and the fuselage that will need to be filled, other than that, it was just a lot of trial and error, sanding and fitting to get everything to line up.  This is where I left off last night. Just tacked glued everything and will let it dry, if everything looks aligned, then I will glue everything up. Not a lot to show since it took a lot a concentration to focus on keeping everything in alignment.  The plastic if very soft and flexible.

Some bit of improvision Scott.

Here is my contribution to the build. This kit looks beautiful.  I have a couple of the old Hasegawa kits in the stash which have now been put in the parts bin. No comparison.

Nice, good to see an early Harrier, and even better to hear it beats hasegawa.

DANG TOSHI!   That thing is coming along nicely!   I am amazed at how each step is like a model kit in itself!

I finally got some bench time in...after some trouble getting the fuselage halves to meet up around the crew compartment,  I was able to get it together after separating and sanding...

Thank you sir.  Yes, I must agree with you in that each assembly step is a kit in itself and I'm not even halfway through the assembly directions book.  Yes, it's like reading a book!  LOL!  Thanks for the kind words.

Your Lancaster bomber looks fantastic!  Keep up the great work!  That's big kit in itself, you'll need a lot of room to display your artful creation.

mc:  well done camo on the Spitfire; looking good!

Toshi:  magnificent detail work on those engines and all; exceptional

tempest:  what a great plane!  Looking forward to your build.  Years ago, Harriers appeared at the EAA airshow/fly-in at Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  It was amazing to see them take off and land.

scott:  what a challenging kit!  I tried Roden's Pfalz in 1/72 years ago; didn't do so well.  May the plastic submit to your will!

Thank you sir!

Toshi: I agree, the insides of the nacelles there looks really good.

Steve, I missed the yellow ID on the Spit`s leading edge as well.  Good idea to paint, I know some kits in the past provided that marking as a decal option.

-------------------------

Scott, looks like you have a kit that must be beat into submission.  I`ve got the Eduard release of the Se.5a, though it is 1/48 scale.  Are you doing the Hisso or Viper engine?

regards,

Jack

After building the Albartross, I expected this to be a "builders" build.  I do know that after this model is finished, I plan to treat myself to a Wingnut Wings kit.  I have seen a lot of fascinating things done with those kits.

I think I am doing the Hisso, its hard to tell if I'm using the correct parts since the instructions are so vague. Again, thank goodness for a number of great Youtube videos on this kit.  I now know why Squadron was giving these kits away for $10 at Eaglequest one year, they did not have English instructions and the pictures are very plain.

Hope to get to spend time on it this weekend.  I am sure there is going to some interesting developements as to how this assembly goes together.

Scary - but very cool.

I have a hunch there is something about the physics of this little demo with the Texans which might make it less dangerous than it looks, but I did some dumb things in airplanes back in my younger days, and this would not have been one of them! Stick out tongue

Back to commenting on the last few pages of this GB shortly, just couln't resist this one realy quick. Geeked

Jack, not only did I forget the band I also forgot the leading edge yellow....Done.

I don't have pictures but, now I will add the decals. This may take a few days as I have other things on my plate for tis weekend. The next pictures should be with the weathering as well.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
