Think that I was wanting to join this one when it was a feeler over in the Aircraft forum.  Count me in, I will either be building the new Eduard 1.48 Bf-109G-6 or one of the many 190's in my stash.  Just have to finish getting my workshop up and running after the move.

Don't fret the small stuff Mark. It's going on a display shelf not to the IPMS nationals. I think it looks great

I think you are beating yourself Mark. As I see it looks pretty good and you seem to have it under control. Once in a while we hit a brick wall but you stop, take a coffee break and when ready get back on the saddle and tackle that wall. I'm sure that 190 is gonna look great at the end.

I've been quiet for a couple weeks, but I've poked my head in here a couple times to keep up... and man, some really exceptional work on display!  PJ's rivet work just about made me quit the hobby!  lol... but I decided instead to use it as inspiration, and challenge myself to learn how to do that on a future project.  Great work everyone!

My build, isn't so great.  Been fighting with it a lot and even packed it all back in the box at one point and decided to move on.  But after I calmed down I got it back out of the box and decided to push on.  Lots of fit issues have led to some rather serious alignment issues with the engine and cowl.  I've decided to just accept it.  It won't be one of my best models, not even close, but I'll finish it anyway.

Here are some pics to catch you up with my Fw-190 A9.

Got the fuselage buttoned up.

Using some brass gun barrels on this build.

Wings glued up, with the wheel wells and cannons painted up.

Wings, meet fuselage.  And look at the "fit" of those gun-bay doors.  Ugh....

Both wing roots needed a bit of filling.  The trailing edge of the left wing needed a lot of filler.

The instructions called for assembling the three curved panels of the cowl together, then attaching that to the front cowl ring.  That didn't make sense to me, since there was no way to set the correct angles of the curved pieces together.  So I found that surrounding the front cowl ring with a bit of blu-tack held it securely to the table, which made it easy to glue the three curved panels to the ring.  This is one of the few things that went well with this build.

The engine was a beast, but I like how it turned out.  Too bad it will never be seen once it's on the plane.  Oh well.

A grime wash to the wheel wells before masking them over prior to painting.  I used oils for this wash and like how it came out.

Ready for paint!  This picture doesn't show the major problem with the plane.  Unfortunately, while attaching the engine, cowl and gun cover, I realized there was a really serious alignment issue, which left the cowl tilted upward quite a few degrees from where it should be.  From most angles it's not too noticeable, but from the side, it looks quite ridiculous.  Or am I making too much of it?  Here's what it looks like:

Well, as I said... I'm going to push on, even though I don't think this one will make it on to the display table.  But who knows, if the paint job goes well, maybe that will make up for the build.  Smile

Cheers, Mark

Doug that came out beautiful! Love the way you pulled off that paint scheme. As others have said, really nice base as well. I've got it added to the front page and thanks for another great addition to the GB!

Right down to even adding oil/fuel stains on the ground decking - very thoughtful.

Got some more done today...

About finished with the weathering and the rest, The Dio, (just a place to mount it) not done yet, but it will be by sometime tomorrow.

The next few pictures are the finished but not yet mounted on "Hard stand" and I will send finished pics likely tomorrow.

Like I said, I'll send finished pics later...

Take care all!

Andy... Like Mopar said, that one is tentioned. When you see the wire on the inside go back into the fuse, then loop back up and reattach where it enters the canopy, it generally has a tentioner on it. Some didn't, and would droop when opened.

Thanks BD!

Rooster the wires are part of a frame pulley system. Some canopies had a retracting spool for the wire others didn't and simply drooped down the side as in the blown type Dora canopies. I will eventually get to that detail too.

Hey guys I've got a quick question. The photo below is from a book I recently purchased on the 190. It shows the aerial wire inside the cockpit and going to the raido I assume? I haven't seen this depicted before and found it interesting. The question I have is when the cockpit is open should the aerial wire be drooping or tight? Seems to me unless there is a retraction system of some sort behind the cockpit to maintain tension it would droop. I've seen it done both ways (drooped and tight) on models before but wasn't sure which would be correct. I haven't seen a time period photo showing this b/c the wires can be very difficult to see in the typically grainy photos. Here's the pic I took:

Another question I suppose would be what is the wire going to the headrest for? This is an illustration so I'm unsure of the accuracy honestly.

Andy - That particular early flat canopy had a wire roller assebmly built in that kept the antennae tight during during high G's and high speeds.  It had a spring wound roller that kept the antennae wire tight when the canopy was opened.

PJ - I love the work on that spinner spiral. Great job!

Roster: I really like how the weathering is going on that. Nice and subtle and super realistic.

Quick update on the Dora:

I got major components together and in primer, when I took the below shot. Since then, I've painted the black and white JG26 fuselage band as well as the yellow tail, painted a base coat of Alclad Polished Aluminum on the wing roots for future chipping, and managed to get some of the RLM76 down on the right side, but didn't take a pic yet.

Untitled

So, it's coming along, and I am actually liking the shape of this one a bit now, especially with the Ta-152 tail. It looks so janky it's almost cute.
