Pride of the Luftwaffe GB

Coming along nicely Steve... I did one a few years back, and painted the underside white first since I figured that dark would cover the light better, But had a hell of a time keeping spaced correctly. I had to start in the middle and work my way out in both directions to get it even in the end. Good Luck!

I started on the underside stripes. Since the decals come in three sections tying a few lines together with carrier film I cut them individually to cut down on silvering. The problem is getting them straight, evenly separated and fight the optical illusion at the same time, I hope I got it, at least this half.

They are still a little wrinkly due to the setting solution.

Slowly working the Dora, very slowly. I got the underside painted and now it's time for the decals....mabe next month LOL.

Best books I've read on the Fw 190 are the three:

Focke-Wulf Fw 190, Vol. 1: 1938-1943

Focke-Wulf Fw 190, Vol. 2: 1943-1944

Focke-Wulf Fw 190, Vol. 3: 1944-1945

I got all 3 from amazon. They had amazing pictures in them, plus the text was pretty good too. I'd highly recommend them.

 

 

 

 

 

Is that the ones from Classic Publications. I have a couple of those on other aircraft, they are really useful.

 

Looks fantastic TJ. Great looking builds everyone. The wife and I are visiting the grandkids in SC do no modeling for a couple of days.

Just a wee bit of yellow on this one 

A little work with Perfect Plastic Putty and Mr. Dissolved Putty got the wing gun bays sorted. I may fix the rescribe line on the one if it still bothers me when I get home tonight.

I got the cockpit and wheel bays built up, painted and washed, but will shoot a photo after I give them flat clear coats tonight.

The Mr. Paint Steel color on the wings is just to check seams, since metal coats show them so much better.

Rigidrider - that work looks great - I love how busy it looks. You're a better man than I am, since I was trying to ignore it altogether on my Dora.

Mike - not sure how the photos are being inserted, but they're distorting here (though they came through just fine in my email).

Looks like you had a little bit of paint lift with masking tape. Model Master Acryl is very touchy with that, and I have found that it needs a good primer coat before application to prevent that. Also, I use Tamiya tape, and stick it to my firearm several times to make it less sticky, and that helps.

Looks like you got them touched up, though!

Hi All! I’d like to jump into 2018 and the Pride of the Luftwaffe GB with the HobbyBoss FW-190D. It’s been a pretty straight forward build to this point as can be seen in the following pics. Since this is a straight OOB build, I’m not adding anything extra. Since it doesn’t come with a pilot, I’m kind of dismayed there isn’t any seatbelts included. I also don’t see any advantage to the use of PE on the tiny parts of the cockpit. This was brush painted with MM acrylics. This was brush painted with MM acrylics. Appreciate any thoughts and tips for improvement.

BD I kind of agree with you. Maybe not ugly but definitely ungainly on the ground. Kind of like a pelican.

Don't get me wrong, I'd jump in one and fly it in a heartbeat, but I just think the Anton is the perfect 190.

I spent some more time working on it last night and should have something to show for it after tonight. It's a fun build so far, if a bit annoying at the wing roots.

 Not at all Brandon... Just a matter of opinion! I have an IPMS club  member friend that thinks the Churchill Armor are the most beautiful tanks hes ever seen, me, not so much...lol... 

Andy. I think you'll get a lot from the books. I still want a haynes manual. If they are as indepth as their auto manuals (and they appear to be) that'll be a great source of info. The R Grinsell book has alot of good info, I'm sure you'll like it!

Doug - That plumbing/wiring looks really good! I had a Barnes and Noble card from Christmas so I took your suggestion and ordered the Rober Grinsell book for a couple of bucks and then the Haynes manual book. Can't wait for them to come in!

Thanks Steve... When I can go to Hobby Lobby, I look in their bead and jewelery aisle, and they usually have a good supply of various types and styles of beads. I just look for the absolutely smallest ones on the rack, and in my opinion, think that some of them (like you said) make for some realistic looking connectors. Also in that aisle, you can find some bead twine (?) that makes a very convincine braided hose and such. Thank you for the kind words. Your paint is looking exceptional on your Dora!

Heres some more of mine...

OK, heres the beastie that they (Revell) always get wrong. As was mentioned earlier, due to the extra plumbimg and such when adapting the Junkers Jumo to this air frame, the most of the wheel bay had to be removed. I tried to cut away as best as pictures showed.

I think I got the best of it...

and this is my attempt (I'm sure there is more then I added) to duplicate the plumbing. There was only a small dab of putty needed to seal an ugly little seam so far. Not bad for an old Revell kit.

Thats it for now, I'll get the lower wing and upper attached today... Thanks,

Man, there is just sooo much good stuff going on here! I have to respond to one in perticular, BD... Your doing a bang up job, and its going to look great, and I'm just the other end of the spectrum on the Antons and Doras. While I really like the Anton and how it looks so mean just setting on a hardstand, I think the Dora (9)looks vicious. lolol... The one I'm not a fan of is the Ta152 even though it was said to be the better of the trio. That long nose and wings are just a bit much for me.lol...The Eduard kits while a handfull, are worth the effort. The look great when finished! Take care all!

Hello mopar looks like your doing another fine job. I really enjoy the 190 family mostly the TA-152 and the dora so Im really looking foword to pre dora version as I have yet to do 1. Thanks for posting your work looks great.

Plasticjunkie It' looking nice. I also have bin giving riveting a go. I only have the trumpeter riveter and it seems I have to push to hard. I' afraid I'm going to crack somthing. I havent  taken on as much as you are doing nor dose mine look as good. Nice job thanks for posting.

kind of hard to see but with the cowl vents and wing accesses the D would be the best way to go with less filling to do. pluss i get to add the wing MGs. the kit seems to have all of these items for the 109-B C and D version all on 1 kit.2018-01-24_07-09-12 by Jerry Richards, on Flickr

is labeled as a 109-b but after looking at my resurch book it looks like it would be much more easy to make it a 109-D version. im getting close so i need to make the choice.

wow everyones work looks great. i have been away from my desk for some time now.

BD - I'm building one of the old molds too but with the gun bays open. I have another in the stash that I'll probably close up and I'll definitely go about as you have. Thanks for showing your process.

This red tape from HL is perfect for irregular surfaces specially on the hood.

The red tape was also used around the cowl ring

I wiped on some washable blue paint to make most of the details easier to see. I made sure not to go too deep to keep it subtle.

This riveting thing is getting to be addictive. I thought it was going to be hard and boring but it's actually fun to do.
