Sorry to hear about the lifting. What paint did you use? Anyway, it looks very good from here.

 Back to work on lady Kate. She got some Flory dark grime wash over Future and when dry was wiped off leaving traces of the wash in the recessed areas. A coat of MM flat clear acrylic was sprayed and when dry did a dot weathering job starting on the wings.

Using a wide brush with a tiny bit of thinner the oil paint is streaked and blended. Most is removed leaving subtle streaks and fading.

The effect is noticeable to the human eye more than the camera can capture. The rest of the plane will get the dot technique along with minor chipping here and there.

The vac formed canopy was a bit of a challenge to mask having VERY faint frame lines. I had to mask the horizontal sections and paint by hand the frames.

Your Kate is looking fantasti! Can I ask what colors you use for your oil dot wash? Looking forward to seeing the finished model.

Thanks Steve. Miss Kate got some white, green, ochre and burnt umber oil colors. The white helps in fading the paint ina very subtle way.

Sorry Japanese GB members, I’ve been tending to Mrs. Toshi and watching my grandson so I’ve been away for a while.  I have Saturday and Super Bowl Sunday without my grandson so here’s where I left off.

Steve, yup, you really need to try this kit, it has been a lot of fun.  It would be great to see what you could do with it.  There are a number of pictures of this ship operating in the rough Northern Pacific rolling like a barrel and then at anchor in a habor, so the water effect subjects are endess.

PJ, again, your detailed documentation of this Kate build is really informative.  The paint work to bring out the details is spot on.

Toshi, welcome back my friend.  I am following your build with interest and support.  You have come a long way with your skill and technique.

Wow that is tiny! Can't wait to see how this comes together.

Small update on Kate. Got her prop painted and striped.

Finally got that long telephone pole strapped to the bottom! I also made the small glass window using clear parts cement.

Scott: Beautiful job there! Love the base, I wouldn't change a thing. I grabbed the photo with the 3/4ths down view to show the deck and planes. Let me know if you'd like me to change it.

After a bit of filler and sanding (maybe not enough sanding) I primed with black in preparation for a coat of aluminum: 

I have decided the KI-100 is a pretty good looking aircraft. Hopefully I can do it justice.

I had the weekend without my grandson so I took advantage of Super Bowl weekend to get some bench time on my Tamiya 1/48 Hien (Tony).  The following compilation is what was done this past weekend.

Looking good Toshi, can you make the pictures bigger?

I started the Nell.

The kit’s interior is typical of Hasegawa’s other 1/72 offerings. There isn’t a lot of detail and because of the large greenhouses, it would benefit from some AM or scratchbuilt enhancements. I going to build OOB but will add some interest such as belts and plumbing. The instructions take some time to figure out, such as the option to show the build with or without the gun in the turret and why one should remove the tabs on the bulkheads because of it. However, after some study it becomes clear. What isn’t clear is where to place part E8 on the left fuselage wall. There doesn’t seem to be any guide of any kind. I went with my best guess as don't think it's really going to matter once it's closed up.

The kit looks to build up quickly once the interior is complete.

If my wife were to see that, I would have a hard time explaining that I was looking at "larger" pictures of scale models. She tends to be slightly on the jelious side. Thanks Tony and PJ. I know about missing posts. I get notifications on my phone, open the email on it and seem to miss a post or two on occasion. I don't notice until I open the forum and scroll back.

My Kate is finished. I did more research on this particular Kate and she had quite a career on the Shokaku. She took part in the second wave that attacked Kaneohe NAS on Dec. 7th, 1941. She also fought at the Battle of the Coral Sea and on Oct.26, 1942, she torpedoed the USS Hornet off Santa Cruz Island. Right after her torpedo run on the Hornet she was shot down by one of the CAP fighters ending her career.
