Hi Cliff, thank you and thanks again for this group.  I possibly might be back later in the year with another build, but in the meantime be watching the other builds here.

----------------------

I have a question about navigation lights.  I forget where I saw it, but there was mention that there is no direct translation for green in Japanese, so somehow that got confused with model instructions and the blue navigation light on the starboard side really should be green???

regards,

Jack

They always appear blue, even a bare bulb under a clear lens.  The blue filters the light from the filament and makes it appear green.

Thanks John.

Now what about Japanese planes that have coloured lens and clear bulb - green or blue lens?

Hmmm, that's interesting. Sorry Jack, I have no idea. Wonder if I've been painting them the wrong colour for years?

The lens would be blue, Jack.  The exceptions would be the most modern LED type lights which may appear green.

Thanks John, so I can leave my build as is - but if I had built it with a seated pilot and flying, then it should appear green, right?

It's taken me a little while but I completed the PE. It's off to the paint booth with it.

Hi Jack,

I really like how you presented your Claud.  Nice photos and instructions throughout your build.

Steve,

That is some really nice PE work on that mast.  I never really noticed before, but it seems to have a pagoda look to it.

Here you go Jack.

I got the black primer on. I'll start the grey when this is good and dry.

Thanks Gam and Jack.

I painted the grey, now I need to attach it to the base so I can have something to hold to paint the small parts such as the satcom domes, CIWS, etc. then add the rigging, decals and some weathering. Once everything is done I'll finish the base.

Finally got some work done on my Ki-67. Working on the cowels, had to thin down the cowel flaps and drill out the exhaust, what a pain.  This is a very old kit so it doesn't have very fine details.

Also i have to fill in the slots for the movable gear doors.  I want to make the door hinges more realistic.

See what I mean by old,  I'm just a few  years older than the mold! Surprise

Steve: Looks fantastic! Hope you didn't blow any PE off with your airbrush, I've done that a few times.

John: Looks cool, some thick plastic there, back then they gave you your money's worth! Btw are you going to leave all those rivets or just sand them off? I've got a kit with the same issues and am not sure if I want to replace the ones I lose on the seams or just get rid of all of them.

Ya I think I'm going to leave the rivets just let the primer fill them in a little so they are not so deep.  I think I have pictures in here that show the wings and fuselage, I had to fill the circles that they molded in for the the decal locations so I had to rescribe the lines and add in new rivits.

I've seen some pictures of this exact kit with the rivets left on and if I can duplicate the paint it should look really good.

Thanks John, mine has the same open locations for the decal insignia. I'll be watching yours if you don't mine to see how you deal with all the little issues here.

Here's what the wings and fuselage look like at the moment.

Nice work there on dealing with those annoying decal positions.

And sorry John, was going to comment on your post and then somehow it slipped past me.

I'm done with the Kirishima. I must say it was quite the kit. For 1/700 it had outstanding detail and a very large sheet of PE. I placed it in my usual water base for display and after having my eyes crossed by the PE, rigging and the very small decals I completed it tonight.
I hope you enjoy.
BTW Gam, I didn't see the Ha Go on the wall.

Steve: As usual she looks terrific!!!

And my apologies, your Ha-Go slipped though the cracks. I was thinking you were going to put her on a base or something so I didn't post her at the time. Then you moved onto this model and I forgot about her. I'll try to get both of them posted before the weekend. Thanks for reminding me. Embarrassed

Steve, terrific job on the ship, and beautifully set up with the equally  well created water base. Yes
