Hey Cliff... The choice of pictures is yours. I always like to give that option to the GB administrator. I figure that if I didn't want the picture seen, I wouldn't have posted it! lolol... I'll be back with another in a bit if OK with you, I have a Tamiya Raiden or a Nichimo Nick I'd like to do. Thanks!

Jack, Yeah, I saw alot of things when looking into this one, I saw the standard Green, Brown, and Grey, and to my surprise, I saw a Yellow, a Yellow Orange, a Red, and the Blue. Thats alright, nice change of pace!

Take care all, back in a bit!

Doug

Thank you Doug, and yes, that is an excellent build you have done here. Yes

Really like that blue scheme, not something seen often, at least I haven't.  Pro masking there too on the fuselage stripe.

regards,

Jack

Jack... Claude is looking better and better! Nice NMF!

Toshi... Not sure when that will be, but , You got it!  Look forward to building a Tony.

Well... I think I can call mine finished! All in all, a typical Tamiya kit, No issues to speak of, and a nice looking aircraft when finished. Here are the finished shots...

Canopies, props and such in place and some light weathering.

Almost forgot the fuselage band.

The Fully Finished shots, Not sure about Pilot's personal markings, but I saw the rabbit on a decal sheet and since these were so fast... ehhh, why not.

Any way, As always, A fun build and good info here, always enjoy watching everyones progress and ideas come together, I have a couple more I'd like to do, and if OK, I'll be back in a bit! Thanks all!

I wonder if I could find a 1/700th Godzilla head to go with one... Wink

Thank you PJ and Cliff.

----------------------

Steve, that ship certainly has a lot of parts - it could pass for a 350 that has been shrunk down. What strikes me is the small details are not distributed throughout, as there are some very large clean areas besides the hull.

At 1/700 that has ALOT of parts so looks like you have your hands full Steve. Your water feature will make this pop! Beer

I opened the Kirishima box today and was excited with the skill level of this 1/700 kit. I believe this will take some time to complete.

The instructions.

The sprues, decals and PE set.

I would be amiss if I didn't play to my strengths and put this in a water base.

Heya Steve, thanks.

Yeah, sometimes it feels I'm building for the first time, or is it not enough because of the road bumps experienced to the finish line.

Look forward to those builds, particularly the ship - lots of detail!

Hi Toshi, welcome to the group here.  Look forward to that clear view aircraft build.

------------------------

So the Claude I'm building was flying in 1938 during Chinese war.  As I understand it, no protective measures on the finish of these aircraft.  Apparently one of the metals that made up the light alloy was copper (4%) and it was this that invited corrosion.

I've basically airbrushed with aluminum paint, as well as some variations with both flat and white aluminum.  I couldn't use flory wash the normal way.  It would wipe right out of the engraved detail (too shallow?).  So I used only a few drops mixed in with a Vallejo umber wash.  I would wipe it off with a fingertip before it had a chance to dry.

Masking stage ... flat aluminum to seal the mask edges, followed with white, and then Italeri's Insignia Red.

Now to clean things up.  On the port fuselage, lost the top of the Hinomaru while peeling the tape off.  I noticed the tape was picking up the odd paint flecks overall, so will have to give a look over for touch ups.  Port wing Hinomaru also needs a little more paint - looks a tad pink, though digital makes it look worse.

regards,

Jack

To rigidride,

Yes, this is a unique and very streamlined aircraft.  If you’re going to wait for the new release Hasegawa, I’d love to see it in a GB or a WIP in the Aircraft section.  I always do both just to keep everyone up to date.  Thanks for your information and support.

Doug, I had forgotten that one too and one of my faves. It's called "The Last Flight". Leftenant (Brit pronunciation)  Decker RFC  lands his Newport bipe in a USAF base in France in 1959. The only thing is that when he took off from his base was 1917! Is that crazy or what?

Man I love that blue shade and would love to do it the same way.

PJ, gotta get in on this one... One of my favorite TZ was when the WWI pilot went forward in time, then tried to get back! The episodes you mentioned were (for the time ) stellar. TZ, OSB, TOL.... when I was a kid, thats all we talked about the next day in school! So many good memories...

OK, as to the paint color... when I was researching this aircraft, man, I found the standard JA green, Brown, Grey, and to my surprize Yellow, Yellow Orange, Red, and The Blue I chose to do. Being I had decals to do the Blue unit of the 16th Chuti I picked it. The way I got the color where it looked like the picture, I mixed Tamiya Dark sea blue with Tamia Blue until i thought is matched.I would put a drop on a paper and dry it w/ a hair drier and blend more if I had to until it looked the same.

Toshi... I had never seen this one either. My wife bought it for me and brought it back from Japan on her last trip there. I was happy she did because I figured that Cliff would be starting his FB soon there after. I havn;t bought my Tony yet, but I've begun the search. I think the guy I know at Hobby Town said that Hasagawa was releasing a new one soon... I think.

Cliff... I was unaware that Steve was transplant need. I am so sorry to hear that, and he will most assuredly be in our thoughts and prayers...

Thanks...Doug

Toshi: You're moving right along. Good luck with the airbrushing. Not sure how I'd do the mottling but after the 262 you've got plenty of practice.

PJ: Yeah 359, I'm friggin' dyslexic or something today. Yeah, real thing and the Star Trek: The Next Generation guys grabbed that star from the episode for the Borg battle episode. Somebody made a nifty line of Outer Limit figures about twenty years or so ago. Would be cool for someone to get ahold of the molds and reissue them.

Toshi

Each AB is different and so are the paints. You have to experiment with the thinner to paint ratio and psi at your end. Usually with acrylics a higher PSI may be needed to cycle the paint.

Yes, Thank you for the reiteration.  I’m going to use either my Iwata Eclipse or my NEO for Iwata TRN1 trigger AB.  Interestingly they both have the same nozzle size (35) yet they react differently.  The Eclipse is very sensitive to paint drying at the nozzle tip at low psi as oppose to the TRN1.

The TRN1 can shoot at low or high psi without drying.  Also the trigger AB is very ergonomic due to it‘s trigger handle.  I might just stick with the TRN1 for the camoflauge and use the Eclipse for the NMF.

For the NMF, I’m going to use Vallejo Metal Color Chrome 77.707.  It’s premixed and shoots extremely well and has a nice finish.  I used it on my Academy 1/48 P-38 Lightning.  I really liked the finish of this particular paint.  Thank you once again!

Forgot Wolf 359, love that one too. Did you know there is an actual star 7 light years away from us with that name? Yea Robert Culp was great in The Arcitects of Fear. Remember Bill Shatner in Cold Hands Warm Hart?

Toshi

That mottling will test your patience for sure but fun none the less. I thin down my enamels and set the AB at low pressure, about 8 psi and carefully scribble away.

Thank you, will do with 8 psi.
