I'm sure you're right Gamera. I noticed the last couple of "adjustments" I made went quicker and smoother.
Besides, dealing with the intricacies of posting will provide incentive for constant progress and continuous posting...lol
Re: Special Hobby kits. I've fiddled with a few of them and found that they just need a little tlc.
Hope to get some gluing done tonight (so I can practice posting...lol).
Talk to you soon,
Ted
Sounds good Ted!
And you can call me Cliff or Gam, either is fine.

Thanks Cliff.
I'm thinking you're right. I took some more pictures and it was quicker yet again.
Here are the tail planes. Haven't glued them together yet, just cleaned them up but they need to be thinned down to fit the fuselage properly.

I've glued the sidewalls into the cockpit and the main wing pieces are glued and most of the seams are cleaned up.
Wheels and engine cylinders are glued waiting to be cleaned up. I spent 15 minutes cleaning up the plastic engine front before I realized that there was a much nicer resin piece with the kit...
Needless to say, I'm a disorganized modeler...lol
I like that Sargee, nice start.
Cheers
Tony
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
Thanks Tony.
Hopefully tomorrow after golf and hockey, I'll still have enough energy to get a bit more done...lol
This is for Doug (RigidRider) and any other owners of the Talon AB.
First of all. your problem was the only time I've heard of a leaking air valve, so thanks for pointing it out. Second, something you should know about the Talon if you already don't is that there is a tiny seal washer inside the body that prevents paint from passing into the air valve "chamber". There's a screw that controls the compression of that washer. I found a screwdriver that would fit into the AB body to adjust the fitting with a little filing, and ordered several replacement washers from Chicago Airbrush.
The symptom is paint in the air valve chamber. The solution is to adjust the screw until it seals or just replace the washer.
Hope you find your Talon as friendly as I have found mine!
Ted: Looks good, looking forward to more photos.
MrMike... Thank you sir. Yeah the oring I replaced was the one around the stem that the trigger pushes on. It looked like possibly when they broached the air inlet (for the allen wrench) they possibly left a bit of debris fron the process and it got in and cut the oring. It was just a barely visable cut, but thats all it took. Now, are you talking about the oring that the needle passes through in front of the trigger stem? I've not (having just bought) had issue with that yet, but have on my older AB. Like you said, just turn screw in a bit to squash oring a bit more to seal around the needle. The only thing I'm trying to get worked out is the fine detail work. It just doesnt want to do real fine work unless you crank the pressure up, causing too much over spray, or you have to thin the paint out to the point that it takes several passes to get desired effect. I'll get it eventually, Problem is my old Master Pro with a #2 needld will paint circles around the Talon costing 3 times as much. Any way, thanks for the info!

Make Lemonade!
Then Sell It Back At $2 Bucks A Glass...
OK, afternoon everyone! Been raining like the dickens here the last few days, so I've been able to get some more done...
The underside will just be a dirtied and weathered Japanese Army grey, Tamiya acrylic. Most everyone that knows me here knows I work almost exclusively with acrylics. Its just that I've seen a few new names lately, and thats a good thing! Theser will be thinned with lacquer thinner to speed drying due to high humidity lately.
OK, now the top, the first coating is Tamiya Japanese Army green with a fair amount of Tamiya sky grey in it, about 50/50.
The next coat was almost a complete coverage of like a "squiggle" pattern of almost straight Army green, then thinning down about 50/50 the remaining paint in the cup a giving it a blending coat from about 6 to 8 inches above the surface.
I guess it shows a little better with some light on it! lol...
And thats about all for now. Next I'll start some of the weathering and markings.
Take care all!
Thanks Cliff. I'm going to have a snooze, but when I get back up I'll see if I can make some more progress to post. Apparently golf and then hockey is a little too much in the same day...lol
By the way and not that as a newbee I want to cause any issues, but is it usual for fellow members to plunk conversations such as Ridgerider and mrmikes discussion about airbrush stuff into the middle of some ones build thread?
Just asking,
Think I just answered my own question. Looked at the whole group build and see that it's one big thread. My apologies to ridgerider and mrmike when they see my previous post.
And by the way Doug, nice work on the Nick.
Talk to everyone soon,
Ted,
We're pretty informal on the forums. Group Builds can and very often do, veer off to something unrelated. Even if you start a dedicated thread, members watching will sometimes go off on a rabbit trail. When that happens on one of my WIP threads or something, I take absolutely no offence to it, in fact, I like it. It gives me more of an opportunity to learn who the members are and the things they know.
Steve
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Thanks modelcrazy,
You are of course correct and I hope didn't step on any toes. My goal is to participate and make friends.
Hey Sargee, no problem at all... We generally stick to modeling, and by discussing things the way we do, well, even though I have been building since the very early 60s I still learn things from each and every member that contributes to the forum, as I hope I have shared some of my years with others. As far as "non modeling topics" ...well, that's how we learn about each other... Like your hockey ! And like Steve said, were pretty open and friendly here! So, WELCOME! And hope you enjoy the forums! Take care...
Doug (,rigidrider)
PS... I know my handle is spelled wrong (Ridgid) but I ride a Ridgid framed chopper, and when I set up my email "Ridgid" was taken, so I just made it "rigid" ...lolol...
Doug: That looks fantastic!!! Amazing work on the pre-shading- I'm really looking forward to the finished product!!!
Ted: Some forums might be a little more strict but as Steve and Doug said we're pretty informal here. I started this just to get more people to drag stuff out of their stash and build it so no one around here (hopefully) are going to get upset if you want to talk about your airbrush, the weather, the price of tea in China or whatever.
Gamera I started this just to get more people to drag stuff out of their stash and build it
Wait, what? Drag stuff outa my stash? Is that what I was supposed to be doing?
I've been buying MORE Japanese stuff to build.
Hahaha! So I'm not the only one doing that!
Did you find any good buys modelcrazy?
To Doug, Cliff and mrmike,
My apologies. I normally don't act like that. Must have been too much sun on the golf course...lol
P.S. Sorry Doug I misread you screen name.
Sargee15 Hahaha! So I'm not the only one doing that! Did you find any good buys modelcrazy?
I went to an IPMS club auction and found way too many. Enough to keep me building for the Japanese GB's for years, assuming Gam keeps it going

You didn't get the memo Steve?
All joking aside my stash is so large I'm sitting on the fence between collector and hoarder. HobbyLink Japan has a great sale going on right now but I had to force myself not to buy anything.
I was going to stop at JGB V to have a nice round number, think I'll try to keep going to JGB X now...
Lol! Sad to say, without going to auctions, ebay, or Hobbylink Japan, I have enough aircraft, ships and Samurai figures to be in this build group for many years!
Keep it going Cliff!
When I get the Claude finished I'd like to get working on a Samurai archer I've had kicking around un built for way to many years!
Sargee, no apologies are needed. No problem either with the handle, I was just explaining cuz some folks try to email, and it doesn't get to me cuz they spelled it wrong.... Er, I mean spelled it right. Don't know why, but for some reason when I pull something out of stash... Two more just like it appear! Hmmm. Any way again, welcome and enjoy!
Cliff.... My wife asked what I wanted her to bring back, I showed her and asked for a Judy.... That's one I've never built. We'll see what she brings back...lolol...
Sargee15 Keep it going Cliff! When I get the Claude finished I'd like to get working on a Samurai archer I've had kicking around un built for way to many years! Ted
Hey, that samurai sounds awesome!
I like the idea of that Samurai Ted. What kit ? Do you have a photo ?
Hi Cliff and Tony,
Yes, it's a pretty neat figure. I bought it in Florida almost thirty years ago.
It was a Hinchcliffe piece of a Japanese archer, 120 mm, master done by Ray Lamb.
I took a couple of pics of the photos provided as painting guides which I will post tomorrow.
Ted... Great subject.. I like figures but have never been talented enough to paint one and have it look worth doing. There was a show here a while back, that taught these skills but at a cost of 250.00$ Sorry... other things to spend that on!
And some more from me...
Geting it ready to paint and decal markings.
OK... a little touch up from paint bleed, and a short period to dry, and I can apply decals. Back it a bit!
Doug: Love how she's coming!!! Love the subtle chipped paint, esp round the engine cowls.
BTW: $250.00 for a figure painting course!?! Gee friggin' whiz! There are DVDs available on game miniature sites for around $30.00-$50.00 and you can watch them over and over as much as you want. Even better there are loads of figure painting tutorials on YouTube for free! Plus, the main thing about learning is just practicing over and over and experimenting till you find a technique that works for you.
