Hey Cliff... The choice of pictures is yours. I always like to give that option to the GB administrator. I figure that if I didn't want the picture seen, I wouldn't have posted it! lolol... I'll be back with another in a bit if OK with you, I have a Tamiya Raiden or a Nichimo Nick I'd like to do. Thanks!

Jack, Yeah, I saw alot of things when looking into this one, I saw the standard Green, Brown, and Grey, and to my surprise, I saw a Yellow, a Yellow Orange, a Red, and the Blue. Thats alright, nice change of pace!

Take care all, back in a bit!

Love that blue scheme, VERY different in a Japanese subject. Now I need to get the decals for the blue version. Great job Doug.Beer

Tony, PJ... Thank you! The Blue is a bit out of the norm, and thats what caught my interest. And I had never seen one of these before... So I have to thank my wife for getting it for me! Thanks again.

I started on the hull on the Kirishima. I will also start on the base after the hull dries completly. The hull and deck is one color so that will make it easy.

Looking good Steve. I need to attend to Kate. I have been busy with the Dora over at the other GB.

Steve: Cool! Looking forward to seeing her come together. Think I've said before I love ships but don't really have the patience to build them.

Although they couldn't be much worse than this. My white metal track links for the Type 95 came in.

I started on the base. As usual it starts with hard Styrofoam, wet paper and med acrylic gel.

Thanks Steve, awesome to see how you build your dioramas.

And the track links are going a little smoother. On my first night building them I broke three and jabbed the wire in my thumb hard enough to draw blood. Last night I didn't break anything nor injure myself so I guess I'm improving!

Nice work everyone. Me, I'm in the big January model funk, all I have been doing is playing with the little airplanes by moving them around the deck.  I might get some ambition and finish them this weekend. Then again, the weather is nice and my RC plane is calling me.

Thanks Steve,

I wish this was the full hull model.  From pictures I had seen of the Akagi at sea, it seemed this ship really had a roll to it.  It would be nice to try your rolling sea technique on it.  Being that the waterline was molded so high, meaning the ship is under full weight, the bottom completly flat, and such limited room in the case I plan to put it in, I may not be able to put it in water other than in the calm and under low speed.

I'm flying vintage pattern with a Kaos and a new P7.  Also an old TF P-51 I bought from Bob Drier, a member from our old club, back in 1993 is still going strong.  A recently completed TF Corsair, a newly acquired 35 year old Sig 1/4 scale cub that I am restoring, and a bunch of electrics. I also got the bug to go vintage and started a Guillows SE5 with an old Cox TD .020 for the fun of it.

I have ADD when it comes to models, I just can't seem to stay focused on one. LOL

Scott, that's the problem with 1/700 ships, most are waterline kits and hard to have much fun with whem it comes to water dios.

Those are some old school RC kits, I'm sure they just the same though. That Guillows should be fun. Free Flight? Do you know if Dave and Bonnie are still around?

I got a couple of cases at Hobby Lobby for model semi trucks that fits 1/700 ships pretty well, so I'm going to do a subtle water base.  With discounts, they were about $7.

Yup, freeflight.  Keely's are still around and have some recent photos of them on the Saddle Butte RC Club website. Bonnie is still the secretary.

I'll have to look for their website and see if I can touch base. I bought Dave's big Yamaha XS 1100 and loved it. Had to sell it about 10 years ago.

She looks great Scott! If you don't want to cement your aircraft in place you could always just snap a photo for the front page and then later make up your mind.

R/C aircraft always seemed cool to me but I'm way too afraid I'd get distracted by something like a sneeze and ram a several hundred dollar plane into the ground.

That really isn't an issue.

Did some PE work this morning.

They don't look this small on the instructions! I lost (to easy to do) one of the center poles and replaced it with some streached sprue.

I'll do a little more today and distract myself with a diffrent build for the rest of the day.

After working with some more PE, I decided to put that away for the day and look at my next Japanese build.

The 1/72 Dragon Type 95 Ha Go.
This won't take long to build, or paint for that matter.

It's a large box for such a small kit.

Very cool Steve, it's a small tank in 1/35th- must be tiny in 1/72nd. Are you going to mask and airbrush the camo or hand paint her?

I'm more afraid of my static models then my RC.  I've lost a fair amount of PE and did estensive damage to expensive static models due to a sneeze.  In flying, you have an expectation that "anything" could happen so you fly "ahead" of the model.  In static modeling, I'm in my comfort zone and never would expect a sneeze, or worse, a visiting big harry spider.

Ready for paint.

Objects appear larger in photograph than in reality.  That tank has really nice details.  Should be fun to paint.

Gam, spray it.

Scott, yeah, it will use a lot of paint for sure.

Scott

Try some Aleenes on the plane tires to keep them in place. You can remove them any time without damaging anything. Aleenes will hold good but will release and the paint will be just fine.

As far as RC, I have my old Bud Nosen 1/4 scale Citabria with a Zenoah G23. I built this sweet plane back in the late 1980's and she needs to get airborne again. Covered it with red Solartex and used tan Krylon for the second color. I also have one of the first ARF's to come out in the early 90s, a Horizon Hobbiies 1/4 scale Cub. Got a Saito 120 4cyl in that one.

All my Tower, Futaba and Airtronics radio stuff is old including the batteries that have been sitting idle for years and will need to get replaced.

Steve

That tiny guy looks great. The camo paint shluld be fun to do.

Steve: Was going to comment but forgot- that's some fine PE work on the Kirishima.

And thanks guys, someday I'd like to give R/C a whirl. At this point though I've got way too many hobbies as it is. Maybe when I retire hopefully I'll have a little more time.

Thanks Gam,

I have an update on both builds.

The Type 95 was sprayed with the light brown, added some Silly Putty and sprayed the reb brown. After this dries I'll add more Silly Putty then the green.

Next the Kirishima.

I added the PE to the port side of the aft superstructure. Almost done with step 1.

Cliff, hang in with those metal track links, they are worth the trouble.   Will you be using that special chemical on them?

-------------------------

Scott, like the look of that carrier.   Do the stripes on the rear of the deck serve any particular purpose - I've noticed on some they also run lengthwise.

---------------------------

Hello Bsyamato, thanks for that.

---------------------------

Steve, you are one busy dude.  That tank is coming along nice and quick, and fine work with that PE on the ship's superstructure.

---------------------------

I've touched up the areas where paint chips peeled after lifting the tape masks.  Some spots though had to lay down Mr.Surfacer because the chips left a noticeable edge that couldn't be covered with just a coat of paint.

The touchups left an uneven look that did not work, so ended up taping over the red and respraying the whole aircraft.  The mixture was Future clear,  flat aluminum and some flat white.  All in hopes of achieving that oxidized look.  I went even further afterwards, mixing some white powder with a drop of flat aluminim paint, and cut down with Tamiya thinner.  This was stippled on with a stiff brush, but before it could dry would also dap the area with a fingertip.

regards,

Jack

The 95 is painted but I still have some to do. You can see gaps in the side view but that's because the hull isn't glued together yet.
