Aces on the Wrong Side of History GB - 2018

I am almost done on the Stuka but one last update before i finish it off. First up, decals. No problems with these, includeing the ywllow V on the wing.

Then an overall wash with Flory bwashes and some exhaust staining.

And then the white was. I have seen this subject done a few times usually useing an airbrush. But i decided to hand brush Tamiya flat white to give a more realistic look. Followed by a little more exhaust stains.

Just a few more bits to add.

Nick, splendid job on Iwamoto's Zero.

The figure looks nicely done too, and it was cool see this ace again as I had built his Claude earlier this year.

Nick, stunning job on the Zero, came out really well and great job on the figure as well.

I've been wanting to add a update for the last few days but I've been having trouble with the site not wanting to load, but then later in the night around 1am when I'm on break at work its back up. Just a few things to show 1st the 110 all taped up waiting for the RLM74.

Then after a clear coat using that Krylon spray acrylic again, I might just start using it for all my gloss coats from now on I really like how it acts. All the decals went on just fine with a few of the really small ones breaking up but the kit comes with a extra or two of all the small ones so no big deal.

The mottling is a bit to big in some places but I was starting to get a cramp in my hand luckly the crosses on the side covered up the worst looking one. Think next time I will have two glasses of tea before I spray mottling again. The last thing I started to use my Mig dark wash but after about two inches on the underside of one wing I decided that it was just going to be to much work. Unlike a tank aircraft have tones of panel lines a rivets so I broke out the ol flory wash and just slopped it all on. Here in a bit I'll start removing it, this is a new bottle and I gave it a good shake the thing foamed way up like I havent seen before like it was full of soap or something it ended up leaving alot of bubbels behind that I couldn't pop hopefully it cleans up well.

Haven't had much time at the bench but I have the main construction done and have started on the base and the figures. More to show later.

Handsome looking 110 Clint.

I finally completed Hinrich Bar's A-8, Red 13. The kit (Academy) went together well but I had a hard time with the decals. After destroying a couple because I used thin glue instead of setting solution by mistake, I found some replacements. The decals kept coming off and were difficult to keep on until I could get a flat coat on everything. One of the landing gear broke off and I reinstalled it using a piece of wire as a pin but was still having a very difficult time getting it to dry correctly. I finally finished everything without breaking anything else long enough to take some pictures. The decals have some silvering but considering everything else this has gone through, that's minor.

Steve  nice looking fw 190 looks like we all had our ups and downs with our builds I had a heck of a time with the right landing gear on the zero 

Got the figures done along with lockheed, also added some metal tubes to the wheels to help keep the model to the base.

When I was making the base I didn't have enough oak to wrap around the entire thing and since it was 2:30AM I couldn't just go down to the store so only added some to the front to hold the name plate.

Alright my Eduard BF110E is finished. Tried a few new things one is these aerobouns figures that have outstanding detail, secound is this krycell precision ice and snow next time I use it I will use hairspray instead of clearcoat to fix it still I like the outcome. So since this GB is about the aces heres a bit of info on Felix Maria Brandis. Source Osprey Arctic Bf109 and Bf110 aces.  Felix-Maria Brandis was born on 9 September 1916 at Ahaus. He received his flying training at Luftkriegsschule 1 at Dresden from 14 September 1939. Brandis was serving with JG 77 in early 1941. He was assigned to a Bf 110 Zerstörerkette, established for coastal patrol missions, based at Kirkenes in Norway. By the implementation of Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of Russia, the unit had been expanded to Staffel strength and designated 1.(Z)/JG 77. Leutnant Brandis had assumed command of the unit by this time. On 2 February 1942, Brandis was returning at low-level from a train-busting mission along the railway line south of Murmansk when the Staffel encountered bad weather. Their own base was closed so the unit diverted to Rovaniemi. In the zero visibility conditions, Brandis failed to return. It was later established he had crashed near Olanga. His Radio Op., Feldwebel Herbert Baus survived, but wounded. Oberleutnant Brandis was posthumously awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 6 March 1942. Felix Maria Brandis was credited with 14 victories. However, some sources credit him with a victory total as high as 18 or even 25.

Heres a few photos of Felix with his Radio Op. and Staffel Mascots. The only long haired Bamsee, which in Nordic means Bear, Herdla named after the main base of JG5 and Brandis's dog Lockheed inspired by the units first kill a RAF Coastal Command Lockheed Hudson.

managed to finish off the Stuka a couple of weeks ago, but i needed to get somthing else for the whole project, so, a bit late, but here are the final pics.

Finihsing touches were to add the cannon, prop, canopy and antenna cable. Then it was fiitted to the base.

Very creative camouflage Bish!

Hello friends! Here is a quick update on the Alfred Suraus 109.  Basecoat and camouflage are down. Mottling and mild weathering are next. So far this has been a trouble-free build. 

Looking really nice Chad and i do like that spinner, i don't think i have seen a yellow one with a spiral before, that looks good.

Was the spiral a decal? What witchcraft did you have to do to actually get a spiral to conform to a spinner?
