The third model I've built for the GB was the Airfix 1/76 Tiger. When I built this one originally, circa 1977, I couldn't get the multi part turret to join correctly. With a bit more experience, I found it quite easy. Lol. I've made a bse for this one too, based on the current Airfix box art.

Cheers

Next up is the Airfix 1/76 Panther. I really don't like the shape of the hull, but it was part of a project I've been doing to build all of the Airfix tanks that I built as a kid all those years ago. Use any photo that you like please.

Cheers

I've been absent from the forum for some time and have been slow to show the models that I've built for this GB. They're all completed. My apologies, its not the intention to show all my photos after they're completed with WIPs along the way. Here's the first of them, the Airfix 1/76 Matador and 5.5 inch gun.

Cheers

Tony

The drone is almost ready for paint. I sanded the whole model to knock back the rivets and panel lines. I glued on some of the small bits before paint so final assembly wouldn't be so tough. The canopy mask is from Pmask for the Eduard F6F. With some cutting and slicing the canopy mask now fits an Airfix kit...lol.

I really like the look of the weathered deck!  I'll need to try that on my next ship.

Been working on the Belfast gradually over the past couple of months until at the start of this week i had the main scheme done.

But the past week i have been working solely on her. I followed Steves suggestion on the wood decks useing Tamiya Deck Tan and a light Raw Umber oil wash. The raised areas around the main turrets don't have any raised deck detail so they are not quite as nice as the main deck, but overall i really like it. Thanks Steve.

With the rest of the superstructure painted and fitted there is only a few smaller bits left to add, though i still have some painting to do.

I plan on starting my Tiger I tomorrow, but i still hope to have this wrapped up by the end of the week.

That was quick, looks really nice. Could do with a nice watery base.

I'll get the front page updated.

Bish, great work with the Gladiator, the finish, the rigging and the base are all super. And only 1/72? You’re kidding me!
And then the Mossie – another great one, with interesting history with it. Obviously the service was very important if they could keep a great plane like the mossie off the hands of bomber command. A very nice build and finish Bish.
The vampire is up to decals, loads of stencils to go on. There are some self printed decals, but the big number for the nose was bleeding as soon as it hit the water – this was despite three coats of microscale liquid decal film. Have to try a few different sealers to see what is waterproof.
So this is what it looks like so far. Between the Airfix decals and the metallic surface, there is a bit of silvering:

What an exceptional subject Bish. You did some righteous justice to that amazing Mosquito. I also greatly appreciate the very interesting lesson on some little known history. Wonderful stuff mt friend. Cheers!

Nicely done.  I have  set of decals to do this bird.  Ernie Gann wrote about the BOAC Mosquito operation in "Ernest K Ganns Flying Circus", 1976 Isbn 0340206934.

So here are the final pics of the Mossie, first just the aircraft. As you can see, i left it clean ashide from the exhaust staining. BOAC only operated these for a short time before having the undersides re-painted black, so i just left it looking new.

When i saw this decal sheet on Hannants, it was the frist time i had ever come across these military aircraft operated by BOAC, seems to be a forgotten part of the war. The companies role was to keep the UK in touch with her Colonies, Allies and neutral nations. This often involved flying close to enemy territory, and those aircraft flying to neutral contries of course had to be un-armed and maned by civilian crews. One of these routes was between Scotland and Sweden. This of course involved flying between German held Norway and Denmark, a task that became more tricky after the Germans deployed Fw 190's. In 1942, BOAC asked for faster aircraft and recieved a single Mosquito Mk IV in Dec 1942. In early 43 they recieved a further 6 aircraft, this time Mk VI's, painted in an over water scheme at BOAC's request. In August, the 5 remaining aircraft (one had crashed and been written off earlier that month) had the undersids painted black. In 1944, a further 3 Mk VI's were delivered with the undersides already in black.

These aircraft carried diplomatic items, cargo such as ball bearings and passangers in a modified bomb bay, with a mattress installed and in flight service consisting of a flask of tea.

One such passenger was a Danish physicist Niels Bohr. It seems that Mr Bohr didn't filly understanded the instructions on donning his oxygen mask. Durying the flight, the pilot could get no response from his cargo and, guessing what had happened, dropped to a lower altitude, saving his life. It is claimed that on landing, Niels claimed it was the best sleep he ever had. He went on to join the British team working on the Manhatten Project.

BOAC operated these routes until the end of the war and continue as a company until 1974. It was merged with BEA to form the UK's current flag carrier, British Airways.

I have not added any figures, just the aircraft awaiting its next flight to Sweden.

I really enjoyed giving a different look to this old kit, thanks Bobby for sending it over.

Now, time to get the Belfast wrapped up.

This has been one of the trickest GB i have hosted because the builds are coming thick and fast, i'm struggling to keep up and it takes me ages just to scroll to the bottom of the roster post to edit it.

That's because it's hosted by a rockstar Big Smile

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
