Bish

Coming along nicely Frank, so how you planning on masking all those windows.

I think I'll get some liquid masker to dab on the windows. Trying to cut Tamiya tape to fit will be just too arduous. Or else I could just paint the airplane then dab the windows whth black paint.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Closing up the fuselage today. Actually the fit for a kit this old isn't bad at all. Just so you know there 24 of those little tiny windows. Twelve per side. I'm impressed that I didn't lose any to the carpet monster.

Although I didn't touch the Vampire on New Year's eve or day, here is where I'm at.

The crew are slouching in their seats, so their butts were notched with a razor saw and they were appropriately bent into shape:

MrStecks

I'd like to join in on this GB, with this kit.  Normally I only build things that have wings... so this should be interesting.  Smile

Probably won't get started before February, but wanted to get my name on the list.

Cheers,
Mark

Was hoping we would get somthing like that, thanks Mark and very glad to have that in the build. I believe they did a WW1 military versionm of that kit as well. Will add it to the roster.

Thanks, guys.  Another bit of info about gluing the stabilizers from the inside:  I use a cheap protractor to line up the vertical with the horizontal, to get the 90 degree angle.  Most times it's worked fine.

Steve:  looks like a very nice kit.

Thanks guys.

I assembled the cockpit area but nee to touch the paint some. I also glued the rear fuse to the wings. Tomorrow I'll start assembly of the nose. This might be a good kit to get some masks for.

Check, so far the fit is good.

Yeah, I'm going to try that glue from the inside on my Clipper.

I love this place. I learn so much everytime I'm here.

There's going to be so many great builds.

Kensar, that P-40 cockpit. So nice!

That’s a good idea to glue them from the inside.

Looks like things are off to a good start.

Frank:  Good progress already.

Mark:  That's a pretty interesting kit.  Not seen one like it, so it'll be fun seeing it go together.

Joe:  Excellent work are you've got.  Attractive kitty, too.  We have fine of them roaming the house and assembly area.

Chad:  another handsome feline; ours like to steal q-tips and eye-droppers off my work table.

Steve:  nice start on the Blenheim.  I've got one, so watching your build will be educational.

Kensar:  It's a great looking cockpit; nice paintwork.

I installed the horizontal stabilizers on my Spitfire build.  I glue them from the inside, so there'll be a strong bond, and they are less likely to pop off later.

Starting my build - 1/48 P-40 Warhawk.

I'll be doing an out of the box build - my first OOB in about 15 years.  I will be doing Welch's Pearl Harbor defender machine.

Starting on the cockpit.

Dry brushed the cooler screens.  Used the kit decals in some different places and painted details in.  IP will be next after some shading in the cockpit.  Too bad not much of the sides will be visible.

I finally got organized and sat down to start the Blenheim. After washing the parts I sprayed everything NATO Black and then RAF interior green for the interior and metal for the engines and gear struts. I also started on the fuse. Airfix split the fuse into 4 pieces, kinda like a modern twin engine jet. Not sure why they did that so I'm a little intrested on how the seam is going to fit.

Interesting how they laid out the fuselage.

Thanks Chad & Mike. Good to know that I'm not the only one who is a cat's kept man. Lol! Actually my biggest issue is coming to the realization that I have yet to actively work at the bench with Thera around. And she is all about being in my business. My old cat, that passed away this time last year, had absolutely no interest in getting on the bench and messing around. He was great about that. Now, I've got some training and adapting ahead of me.

Chad: Thanks for the insight on the A-4 kit. It certainly has excellent reviews and appears to be a fun kit ahead.

Frank: Looks like a sound start there aside from the prop issues. I'm certain you'll find a solution and turn out a beaut of a build.

Steve: Outstanding start there. Way to come out of the gate.

Joe, if someone had put coarse sandpaper instead of soft towels in your booth, Thera might have had less interest. Just kidding! I lost a 2' x 8' workbench by putting a pillow and a space heater on it - my shopmate Cookie now owns the bench. I have to laugh at myself for the number of workarounds I do to keep from disturbing her.

Happy New Year!

JOE RIX

I'm off and rolling. Well...somewhat.

It has been just shy of a year since I've activly sat at my bench for any active modeling. As such, I needed to do some clean up and organizing on the bench to get ready. So, I tackled that task yesterday.

The same story goes for my paint booth. Unfortunately, it has been so long since I've used the paint booth that our new cat, Thera, decided it is her own personal perch of prominence. Getting that all sorted out is going take a bit more effort. She is the princess of the household anyway.HmmBig Smile

On to today. Having slept in followed my naps in response to staying up well past my bedtime, as well as hosting our annual New Year's dinner for family and friends, I was limited in what I was able to do today. Yet, I managed to at least get the sprues and resin parts out for a pre-game bath.

Perused my AM selection as well:

Might be able to get in some more activity this evening after everyone leaves. Here's hoping.

Joe, I know the struggle!  That A4 is an awesome kit because the overall fit and finish is exceptional.  I know you’ll enjoy building it.

Today's progress: Installed all of the little, tiny windows in the fuselage. I mean little. Assembled the wings, the horizontal stabilzers, and the sponsons.  They all need their seams sanded and filled. I worked the cowlings. The front openings weren't very round. Some filing and sanding fixed that. I'm wondering if I should paint the inside of the fuselage black before I close it up. The same with the windscreen. Can't really see inside anyway. GMorrison built this kit recently as a what if. That's where I got my idea. The raised detail on this kit is so delicate, I'm afraid that when I begin filling and sanding I'll lose a lot of detail. Hope y'all are having a good build time today. Anyway, here's what I did today:

Cheers, Bish.  May the Force be with you!

Checkmateking2? Is this Sgt. Saunders? Where's Caje? LittleJohn? Sometimes I'll watch Combat on YouTube while I'm at my hobby bench.

Guinness? The Force is strong with you!

Here they are, plus a couple more:  Kirby and Nelson.

Still a good tv show, and has held up well over the years.  Sometimes I pop in a DVD and use it for background while prepping plastic parts.

As for Guinness--

it may be the preferred drink of hobbits.

I limited myself to one last night, else I'd not been able to finish the marathon.

Happy New Year!

Thanks, Jack. For this kit there just isn't anything in the aftermarket. Too old and not popular enough. I'll make this work one way or another. Thanks for your help.

I've been at this for better than three hours now. Time for a break. Maybe watch a couple episodes of the Doctor Who marathon on BBCAmerica. The DVR is already set to record tonight's New Year's episode. Beware the Dalek...

Frank - yeah, I think you will have to rob the props from a second kit.  I had thought that Clipper was 1/72, but now I noticed it's only 1/144 and I'm not at all familiar with aftermarket in that scale.

Jack
