The next step was to add acrylic gel and wet paper strips. Once this is dry I will work the styrofoam down some to flatten it and add a second coat of gel. The second coat will smooth it out some.

He is pretty cool. Their Boston Terrier is a headcase though, he's got mental issues...

I'm amazed that Labs, and others, have this issue. I have never heard of it before and I've had 3 Labs in the past  The lady who watches our dogs said her Lab has had surgery for both her ACL's. 

On the NC, I took a pic of the hull after spraying the black. On to the greys. ,

On the Spruance, after the glue has dried on the styrofoam pieces, it's now ready for the paper strips and clear plastic for the bow splash.

My lab is always overweight and the vet said that Labs tend to get acl injuries alot and his weight doesnt help. Still he loves to always play and is very spry and agile for his size. I think he thinks he's a world class athelete. It's funny that Sun Valley would be cheaper than Boise given the folks that live up there.

Speaking of dogs BK, my new boy, about a 1/1/2 old black Lab/Plott Hound looking fella, tore his ACL! We are going to be taking him to Sunvalley for surgery on Christmas Eve where the price is about $2000 less than here in the valley. Poor guy, he's just a knucklehead and still doesn't realize that he's hurt and wants to play all the time.

I sanded the plates on thw NC last night and besides knocking off a couple during the process, which were replaced right afterward, I think it turned out really well. I will be spraying a black base on the hull and deck tonight. Then comes the hull camo, spray the deck fittings grey, mount the deck and install the wood veneer. Of course, not all in one night.

Pictures will defiantly be coming when that is complete.

When I try to execute ideas I see others pull off with ease.

Going to. I will use a transpartent plastic sheet for the bow splash. I'm just adding a little to the swells, not as much as it looks. Now where did I stash that clear plastic  

Of course, this is how my ideas always go.

Be a good one for depicting "The Bedford Incident".  Sitting in calm water, among the ice, on passive sonar watch.

OK, here is where it gets ugly and where you think, OMG I've just screwed it up.. I added some scrap foam to the top to add to the swells. Once dry, I'll carve them down some and begin to add the paper strips to make the actual water.

Always a learning experience for me when you get to doing different water techniques.

Oh awesome Steve! I want a nice calm sea for my LCT but I'm going to try this with my IJN Shimakaze kit. 

The rigging, weathering and slight rusting is complete, I just need to add the small boats......Can't forget that, can't forget that.

You asked for it, so I'll give you the "making sausage" part of the water base. When I started the build, I purchased the large blue insulation sheet from Lowe's. This is a new material for me so it's new ground. I marked out the hull and cut out it's outline, I then carved out a hole for the hull. This is an extremely messy process regardless of the material used.

I use a BBQ lighter to create the swells, although this is an admittedly easier task with my old standby material, the hard white Styrofoam. During the last part of the build I decided on the type of sea state I wanted. Heavy weather with a large bow crash, I've seen plenty of them in the Bearing, and felt the shock that ran through the ship, very hard on the older electronics BTW.

So onward. I dug out a little more for the bow and plunged the bow further in the material while raising the stern further out of the water. Since this isn't a see through seascape, I used old used paper towel pieces to support the stern. Non of this will be seen and the acrylic gel process will secure the hull to the base.

This is where I ended last night. I will be adding a little material to add to the swells.

Sorry I didn't get the chance to introduce my entry properly until now, but I'm going to be joining this build with the Revell kit of the SS United States in 1/600 scale!

I sent Steve a couple of messages to okay the subject (hence why my entry on the roster arrived before this post) but, seeing as the idea holds water, you'll soon have another captain in harbor!
