Gam, yeah that's the one. Now there is some pretty fine PE in that set from the gun directors, stack rails, depth charge racks and K guns to the Bofors and rails.

Big thanks Bill! Haven't built a ship kit since the '80s and wanted something quick, cheap, and dirty to- pardon the pun get my feet wet again. The Tom's Model set is #3508 Early Fletcher Destroyer right? Looks to have all the PE I can handle. I looked at some of the Trumpeter kits but I want something simple to start out with.

I do buy my CA in the little squeeze tubes and switch them out frequently.

That is the modeling tip of the day. My CA glues sit for far too long. Generaly, I can get by with what I have but for this build and all the PE work, I am for sure buying new; I am gonna need it.

Both the Tamiya and Trumpeter Fletchers are nice kits. Trumpeter of course has a lot of parts.

Toms PE set works for either and costs less than $ 20.

Thanks Gam, Steve5, Mongoose, and KC. This was a bear to do, I think that my superglue is getting old because the pieces didn't want to hold. I must have tried a dozen times on those end pieces.

BTW: I've noticed the Tamiya 1/350th Fletcher class destroyer is really cheap and I'm thinking of just grabbing one of those for Christmas and switching my entry since the Fletcher looks way simpler for a ship rookie like me. And then I see all these PE sets, some up to five times the price of the kit. Is there a PE kit for this model anyone could recommend???

Here is my solution to the lack of SPS49 PE. Using repurposed pieces of PE I put it together with 4 different sections that were once two pieces. It's crude, but in my opinion better than the kit supplied piece of solid plastic.

Wow, The Flyhawk Super detail set.  Massive amounts of AM (PE) is right. Add Interest? Absolultly!

     I see you bought copious amounts of  Fleky 5K ca glue.  How is it for working with PE?        I had switched to Gorilla glue thin bond but have not had much use so far.

The ones I've used seem to work great. That's just what came in the order, they are different setting times for use on different parts. The slow drying works great on tank tracks. Like I said, I have other US ships I would like to build and went on ahead and bought enough for several. Some times I use Gator gule, somethimes I use Loctite gel.

It's like the Akagi I'm going to start in 2 years. Massive amounts of AM and will take me a while to complete.

Yes that's a crazy amount of PE. I'm ever starting to wonder if I took on too much. One thing for sure, I doubt it will be finished by spring but I'm going to try. Might take 2 winters.

I got some time to do some PE work of my own on the Spruance.

Well everything came in and I thought I would post some pictures. It will be this winter before I can get started. I ordered extra paint because I have a couple other US ships I might build so this way I have got enough. Remember I have until the end of time to finish this baby. Ever the US Post Office is trying to help me get started.

I gave up on it after building all of the CA's avaliable at the time, some of the CL's and started on the BB's. I had some American and British as well mind you.

Steve: Build the entire IJN line!?! Wow! I think pretty much every ship of the Imperial Navy is modeled by one of the companies you listed.

The submarine model is really well done. What scale did you determine it is?

Look forward to the decals. I'd note that most of these sub kits include escape hatch markings that arw quite prominent. It's my understanding that those markings were only used in commissioning and training exercises. They were removed where the boat became operational. Bill Morrison may correct me there.

I don't have much to show for the last few days. I got some PE on and had to rip off some. Some repainting, and some more repainting. 

Now I'm waiting for some decals to arrive. I'm just about done.

Well, let's just say I'd built 1 maybe 2 of the old and new waterline kits....ok, maybe more than 1 or 2. A few from Fujimi, Hasegawa, Tamiya, Sky Wave, Aoshima, Trumpeter, IBG, Hobby Boss, Cyber, DML. I think that's all of them. The older kits have similar issues. I was trying, at one time, to build the entire IJN line
